Video Game Arcade Tours - The Mirage Amusements (Mablethorpe, UK)
This is HANDS DOWN the best arcade in Mablethorpe! Not only is the arcade HUGE, but they didn't totally sell out on redemption-based games. You can actually play video games here! Crazy thought, but it's increasingly rare for seaside arcades these days to have any kind of video games. This arcade has TWO Dance Dance Revolution machines: X2 and Euromix 2, right at the entrance way and also a HUGE 4 player half-car Ferrari / Out Run arcade game (Sorry my knowledge lacks at driving games!), newer titles like Walking Dead; amongst other machines. It's pretty common to see large arcades in the US: like D&B, Round 1, Gameworks etc, but it's a rarity in the UK! Keep it going guys, great job!

An amusement arcade (often referred to as video arcade or simply arcade) is a venue where people play arcade games such as video games, pinball machines, electro-mechanical games, redemption games, merchandisers (such as claw cranes), or coin-operated billiards or air hockey tables. In some countries, some types of arcades are also legally permitted to provide gambling machines such as slot machines or pachinko machines. Games are usually housed in cabinets. The term used for ancestors of these venues in the beginning of the 20th century was penny arcades.Video games were introduced in amusement arcades in the late 1970s and were most popular during the golden age of arcade video games, the early 1980s. Arcades became popular with children and particularly adolescents, which led parents to be concerned that video game playing might cause them to skip school.

Video Game Arcade Tours - The Mirage (Hemsby, UK)
It looks so promising from the outside! But all we found was an 18 wheeler and a small air hockey lol. There are many 2p machines and fruit machines. There is an over 18s gambling area and also some redemption. Not much in the way of video games I'm afraid!

Many of the arcades in the UK (Mainly seaside arcades) are called Amusement Arcades. They are typically packed with redemption-based machines with very few video games (As video games simply do not make money). I have placed the word Amusements in the title for these types of places as they are not true Video Game Arcades, but deserve some sort of mention. As gambling is legal in the UK, they tend to include fruit machines (aka slot machines) and various other things money-making games, so video games really take a back seat in places like these. They also really hate filming, I'm not sure why because it's free advertising, unless dodgy things are taking place lol

Sonic air hockey surrounded by an endless drab of redemption, 2ps and gamblers. The carpet is office blue with little to no atmosphere. This is more like a casino rather than an amusement arcade.

Video Game Arcade Tours - City of Gold & Mr Bibby's Amusements (Mablethorpe, UK)
Both City of Gold and Mr Bibby's Amusements are joined on the interior, which is rather strange as they both have differing themes lol... City of Gold has some very nice interior (and exterior!), however, both arcades are total redemption fests! I think between them, there is a Mario Kart machine, other than that, it's overrun by tickets and fruit machines. The Mirage across the street does have some great video games, so head there if you're tired of redemption!

Video Game Arcade Tours - Empire Amusements & Cheeky Monkeys Play Area (Mablethorpe, UK)
There isn't a nice way to say this but Empire Amusements & Cheeky Monkeys Play Area is pretty damn bad as far as amusement arcades go. There are ZERO video games and it's packed with 2p machines and fruit machines. If they had more money to put into this, we would probably see redemption-based ticket games rather than any kind of video games. It just seems like a place to throw the kids in while the adults gamble away the day.
