mirepoix - a medieval town in france
Look at these chimeras carved from the wooden beams of the raised building. What for? When? The wood is 250 years old. How did they cut these creatures from a whole piece? Who was preoccupied with this labor? Why a so huge church in a small town?? Visit Mirepoix in the Ariege department and search for the answers on site.
Peter Marshall's France 2 Part 2 Mirepoix, Pamiers and more of Foix
Early start via SNCF to Pamiers then by bus to Mirepoix, a stronghold of the Cathars. Look at the church and listen to the organ. See more of Mirepoix, a bastide town. Back by bus to Pamiers and have a saunter round. Then by SNCF back to Foix.
Climb to the top of the tower on the castle at Foix and get a birds-eye view. Get up very early next morning to catch a train and watch the local bakers making that lovely French bread. Gabriel Faure was a local lad.
