Autumn in Tokyo - Mitake Gorge and Mt Mitake [HD]
Spent the morning wandering around Mitake Gorge then headed up to Mt Mitake in the afternoon. Unfortunately left it too late to make it to the summit. The autumn colours had already passed their peak by the time I got there, but still a stunning place to visit.

After passing Mt. Mitake, it was time to head down to the Nanayo-no-taki Waterfall. On arrival at 11 am, there was another huge gathering of people enjoying the nice waterfall. It takes a great effort to walk down there.

Take Chuo Line toward Ome from Shinjuku station. It will take about 1:30 hr to reach Mitake station. There is also a Okutama holiday special train in holiday morning 7:40 am, that take only 1:18 hr . Notice that train will split in the mid way, so make sure you take the parts of Okutama train, usually car no 1-6.
When you arrives Mitake station, you have two choice to do. If you want to go to Mitake valley, just go down any street in front of the station. If you want to go to Mt. Mitake, you better take the bus. As for me, I went through the Mitake valley and go walk to Mt. Mitake cable station. It fun to walk along the Tama river. But its not fun to walk to the Mt. Mitake cable station. Its need to walk up along the concrete street for 40 min and the summer heat make me tired.
Going up with cable car will cost 590 for one way and plus 100 for additional lift to upper shrine. But the main shrine is on the other way. So, i only take the cable car and walk toward the main shrine. Don't forget to taste the fresh grill fish, delicious and cheaper than that of Tokyo, only 500 for one. After passing some house and you will seen the omiyage shops that also serves as restaurants. Treat yourself with traditional soba or katsu don. Wash face and hand at the entrance of the shrine and you also need to climb some steps. There are several small shrines around the main shrine. After pray at the main shrine, you must go the the most beautiful places of the Mt. Mitake, Nanayono fall and Rock Garden.
