Series 2 - Australia, The Giant Loop
Episode 31 - The Gibb River Road & Kimberley Region, WA (22/4/19 - 4/5/19)
...
The first video from the Kimberley a region in northern Western Australia, 3 times the size of England and home to the infamous four wheel drive track The Gibb River Road. The region is one of the world's last wilderness frontiers and is full freshwater swimming holes - and freshwater crocodiles, amazing rock formations, aboriginal heritage and art, outback cattle stations and some of the most amazing night skies we will ever see.
We enter Western Australia on the Victoria Highway and make our way to Lake Argyle for our first night back 'home'. We spent the next day travelling to Kununurra and preparing for the next couple of weeks travelling along The Gibb River Road. Here we meet up with some friends, also doing a lap of Australia and had a fun night on the sandy banks of the Old River. In the morning we crossed the Ivanhoe crossing once again back into Kununurra to refuel and get on our way along the Gibb about 50km to the west.
Being so early in the season some parts of the Kimberley were only just opening, from the not so wet wet season (Nov-Apr) and we had been told the grader was was just ahead of us. First stop on The Gibb was Emma Gorge, a 2 hour walk out and back from the guesthouse and restaurant to a large freshwater swimming hole with a resident freshwater crocodile 'freshy' - we had a swim but luckily didn't bump into her. Afterwards we took a quick look at the El Questro homestead before finding a free camp for the night on the banks of the Pentecost River. The next day we stopped of at Ellenbrae Station for tea and scones before continuing on our way north towards Kalumburu.

The KIMBERLEY: trekking across the the Gibb River Road and up the Kalumburu Track
if you have never heard of the Kimberley, the Gibb RIver Road or the Kalumburu track, look no further! Here is a collection of videos from sights along this breathtaking region. the kimberley, and more specifically the Mitchell Plateau (accessible only via an 700km unsealed road + 200km a dirt track), is considered the last frontier of Australia.
one of my favourite parts about this trip is the lack of phone service. im so happy that i have been able to travel this road while it is still like this. being disconnected for 14 days was a blessing.
if you want to see it for yourself i would 100% recommend it! come down under, the waters great!
[[[Full Disclosure: this was filmed in July, in the middle of winter--- while swimming was refreshing, let it be known that ever single body of water in this video was like an ice bath. the kind that slows your heart beat down a few beats upon breaking the surface]]]
music: first track is ...that instrument you hear is a didgeridoo, historically played by the aboriginal peoples of this fine country.
the second track is a remix of Daryl's famous song: Horses, which is pretty much the present-day national anthem of Australia.
The Kimberley Part 2 Mitchell Falls
The adventure continues for Kyle, Gerry and Sodium with Part 2 centred around the Mitchell Plateau. This region of the Kimberley features some impressive waterfalls, in Little and Big Mertens falls as well as the notorious Mitchell falls; as well as several sites of aboriginal art.
