Nestled in Sendai's western mountains is the Jōgi-Nyorai
Jōgi-Nyorai story 12th century statesman Sadayoshi (貞能) of the vanquished Taira clan changed his name to characters (定義) which could also be read as Jōgi in escaping the pursuing Minamoto clan, hiding here with a sacred Buddha in his trust
The temple became a destination for pilgrims praying for marriage, conception, and childbirth blessings. The locals know it as Jōgi-san
The 5-tiered pagoda was built in memorial of Sadayoshi's passing, and it stands in prayer for peace, forever and for all mankind
