Destination Yokohama: Hiking in Japan Day Trip on the Rokkokutoge Trail to Kamakura
Rokkokutoge hiking course in on the muira peninsula in Kanagawa Japan. I started my hike at Kanazawa Bunko station but there are many different enterences. You can hike to Kamakura and connect to the Ten-en trail if you like to stretch this into a longer trail. My hike was to Konnadai station where I caught the bus back to Kamiooks but it's up to you which twists and turns you make of your day hike. It's a great adventure, hiking in Japan! Please give it a try.

Snow Day in Kanagawa
We're lucky if we see a couple inches of snowfall here in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan, but this year was AWESOME! February 9-10th we received about 2 feet and then another 2 feet the following weekend!! It was AWESOME! This was just the beginning of the storm, but you get the idea.

Shizuoka Kawazu Sakura Festival - 河津桜祭り- 4K Ultra HD ; With around 8,000 cherry trees mostly located along the Kawazu River, the Kawazu Sakura Festival (Kawazu-zakura Matsuri) is one of Japan’s most famous places for early cherry trees blossom viewing or hanami. Located on the Izu Peninsula, Kawazu and its Sakura festival attract almost two million visitors each year from mid-February through mid-March.
According to the residents of Kawazu, the first early blooming cherry trees were discovered in the 1950s and since then the Kawazu residents have worked hard to systematically plant more of these trees across the city and along the river.
Finally if you are planning to visit the Kawazu Sakura Festival, we would highly recommend you get there as early as you can in order to avoid the amazing crowds that this place is attracting every day!

Modern-old Japan mud house: smart & bioclimatic on a budget
To bring natural homes into the 21 Century, architect Tono Mirai designed “Future House”: a home that blends earth building and traditional joinery with modern design. Located in Miura, Kanagawa (about an hour and a half south of Tokyo), this fusion home was built for a businessman and his wife and 3 children.
The client wanted a healthy and natural home as an escape from his daily commute to Tokyo, but wanted something modern. Mirai designed a home oriented to the south so that its earthen floors and walls (of traditional Japanese mud plaster) can act as heat sinks for the winter sun. He built vents into the outer walls to naturally control the flow of air.
The extensive living roof also acts as an insulator. Mirai calls it a “very natural way” to insulate, noting that the temperature difference between outside and inside the roof can be more than 10 degrees.
With all the passive solar and natural venting, the home doesn’t need AC or heating (beyond a small wood stove) and it delivers a natural air quality and “peacefulness” requested by the client.
