↪ P.S.: If you hate zoo environments or any sort of animal enclosure no matter if the conditions are well and good (as per what I witness during my visit), I suggest that you don’t visit this place or it will make you uncomfortable. As for me, I just try to keep an open mind; plus, I don’t immediately shun every animal park, especially if the animals are well-cared for (unless it's otherwise — do let me know). If it helps to note, foxes are one of the few animals who don’t suffer any type of stress when under captivity — but of course, I do know that it's ideal to rather let them be in the wild...
Yet again, their chances of survival in the wild is very slim especially with today's times. Looking at the facts, a fox in the wild has an average life span of 2-4 years only because of diseases, hunting practices and road accidents; but in places like this Fox Village, they can live up to 14 years. (Besides, you cannot imagine the number of people who would ‘kill’ for fox fur, nor the number of people who do fox hunting for fun/sport like the UK for example).

We went with Sharla and Chris to the Fox Village at Mt. Zao!! It was the most incredible place I've been in my life! I highly, highly recommend this for anyone visiting Japan. However, getting there is a bit tricky! You either need to drive a car, take an expensive taxi, or catch a questionable ride on a city bus in a city southwest of Sendai called Shiroishi. The details are on the website (in Japanese). The bus costs 200 yen and doesn't actually stop at Fox Village, so apparently you need to tell the driver to stop there AND pick you up again on the way back, lol. Good luck adventuring?!

Fox Village In Japan! [Kitsune Mura in Zao Miyagi]
Zao Fox Village Tour:
Here is my visit to the fox village or kitsune mura in Zao, Miyagi Japan.
I was on a road trip with my friend Mamoru. We drove up north to Sendai and Zao to check out the onsen hot spring, the famous temple area called Matsushima and stopped for a visit to the famous fox village.
It was an interesting experience both good and bad. Watch my video to see for yourself.

MIYAGI - Zao Fox Village ・キツネ村 ｜Cheap way to get there (Japan Travel Vlog #6)
We made it to Fox Village!!!
After extensive research, we found a cheap way to get to the village. We decided to stay an extra day in Sendai so that we could catch the Castle Kun bus that goes directly from Shiroishi station to Fox Village for only 200yen (2$ US). Important to note that this bus only runs on Tuesdays and Fridays at only 7:58am and 1:35pm. The entrance fee for the foxes was 1000yen (10$) and you could buy fox food for 100yen (1$). *We somehow forgot to do that D: * To get back, the staff called a cab that we shared with 6 other people and we were able to split the cost 8 ways. This is definitely the cheapest way you can get to Fox village and it turned out to be easier than I thought. Hope this video helps for those who plan to go and want to save money :)

One of the most famous attractions in Miyagi is the “Miyagi Zao Fox Village” in the town of Shiroishi.
In the Fox Village, 250 foxes of 6 different kinds roam free in a spacious area designed to give them all the comfort they need! There is even a small “Inari” shrine inside!
Visitors are allowed to enter the area and admire the foxes directly.
But is important to respect the cute foxes and to not disturb them. While taking pictures and admiring them, refrain to pet and getting too close to the animals!
From our Guest House, it takes 1 hour by car. Trains to Shiroishi are also available from Sendai Station!
“Miyagi Zao Fox Village” is one of the spots you can’t miss during your trip in Japan.

ไม่ยาก หลักๆก็คือห้ามจับจิ้งจอกนะ ไม่งั้นอาจจะโดนกัดได้เลย ต้องระวังงๆ และก็มีข้ออื่นๆอีก

ZAO FOX VILLAGE Japan's Free-Range ???? Petting Zoo cute Foxes in Snow
Photo version Foxes! One hour drive from Sendai, Zao Fox Village is Japan’s largest fox-themed zoo. More than 100 foxes live free-range in a garden surrounded by nature and you can watch foxes without a fence in between. In addition, there are a lot of small animals such as rabbits and goats. In recent years, as word-of-mouth spread, more and more foreigners have come to visit this unique attraction. In spring, a “hug a baby fox” experience is available, which is a world-exclusive to Zao Fox Village. All the foxes are checked for Echinococcus disease (a parasite common to foxes), so you can enjoy contacting with foxes safely. 9:00-17:00 (winter season 16:00) Adults (13 plus) 1000 yen.
The first part of Fox Village is more like a petting zoo. There are a few foxes, either in cages or with a collar and leash. There are also some bunnies that you can pet and hold, as well as miniature horses and some goats. This part of the village alone was enjoyable.
The main part of fox village is through a door. This area is open, and the foxes can walk around the entire area freely. There are lots of trees and bushes, and you can feel like you are actually out in the wilderness. Most of the foxes are out here, of all varieties and colors. Some will scamper up to you with curiosity, and others will run away. Many of the foxes are sleeping or resting, which is, of course, also very cute. After feeding some of the foxes, they might follow you around for a while, hoping for more. You can get really close to the foxes. However, they are wild animals. I would not advise trying to touch them because they may bite you.
The preserve has structures and little houses for the foxes, and there is a shrine with statues and a torii too. The area is beautiful and fun to walk around in. The Miyagi Zao mountains are also beautiful and scenic. Fox Village is near the town of Shiroishi, which you can take a local or bullet train to get to. However, Fox Village is a 20-30 minute drive into the mountains from Shiroishi Station. You will need a car or a taxi. The drive to Fox Village is also very scenic and enjoyable, especially when you can see the autumn leaves.

We got up at the break of dawn to take the first train into Miyagi to see the Fox Village on our last day in Japan. Foxes are my absolute favorite animals, so this was my dream come true!

Zao Fox Village (or Kitsune Mura), in the Miyagi prefecture, was a bullet train and many an expensive taxi away, but I absolutely had to see it while I was still living in Japan! Hubs took the kids and made sure I got to go for my 29th birthday. Happy birthday to me :3
