The Momote-shiki is one of the ceremonies for prayer, also Japanese traditional samurai arts using archery. A shooter who have a black archery is high class,and status is high so that there are many lines on an archery. And highest shooters is called Shigeto. Today,there are 3 groups. Each group shoot with different method. This Momote-shiki is held after a ceremony Hikime-no-gi. Both ceremony on this grand festival is Ogasawara-ryu style.
This Momote-shiki is a part of the grand festival Rei-sai Nov 3 2013 at Meiji jingu shrine,Tokyo,Japan. Rei-sai is the most important event (This year is the 161st Anniversary of Emperor Meiji's Birthday) at Meiji jingu shrine.
Spec. Target is diameter of 157cm. Distance is about 50m.

Karatsu is a city at the north part of Saga Prefecture, and faces Karatsu Bay connecting to the Sea of Japan. It is located about 45 km northwest of Saga city, and about 55 km west-southwest of Fukuoka city. The central area is just around the mouth of Matsuura River.
This area was the first place where rice was cultivated in Japan about 2,500 years ago. Of course, rice was brought from the Asian Continent. And the history book written in China in the 3rd century introduces a small state which existed around this city at the time. Of course, some Chinese travelers came here in the ancient times. So this area had been the entrance of the primitive age in Japan.
In the early 17th century, Karatsu castle was built, and this city had developed as a castle town. Since the early 19th century, Karatsu Kunchi, the big festival of this city, has been held.
To visit Karatsu, it is convenient to use JR Chikuhi Line from Fukuoka city rather than JR Saga Line from Saga city. It connects to the subway of Fukuoka city, so we can come here directly from Tenjin, Hakata and Fukuoka Airport.
