On Sunday 26th May, 2019, we visited the wonderful Mizens (Woking) Miniature Railway, in Woking. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found there, having only heard stories, we really didn't know what to expect. Over a mile of track, and lots to see, it really was a lovely day out. Run by lovely people who were more than welcoming towards us. We would thoroughly recommend and will certainly be visiting again soon!

The Mizens Miniature Railway - Episode 5 of Miniature Railway Britain.
The Mizens Railway is also know as the Woking Miniature Railway, situated near the Surrey town. In this video we start in my Lada Riva, arrive at the railway where we find a South African Railway's plinthed steam locomotive. We also find a sculpture of a narrow gauge steam locomotive and a Connex South Eastern 4-Vep unit. All this before our trip on the extensive 7 1/4 gauge miniature railway!.

The Mizen's Railway The Woking Miniature Railway 1940's Theme Event on 16th September 2018
Set in a beautiful 10 acre site of pretty woodland with a duck pond in Knaphill (Surrey)lies The Mizen's Railway also known as The Woking Miniature Railway. This is a railway of 7.25 inch gauge and comprises of 3 routes. The longest route is around a mile in length and is appropriately named The Miler. The other popular route is a shorter version running the opposite direction and is named The Suburban and finally there is The Highlander route which at present is undergoing work being rather prone to adhesion problems due to it's geographical terrain.
The railway has many types of traction/Locomotives ranging from Steam,Diesel, Petrol and even Hydraulic (Petrol Fuelled). Most of the locomotives are owned by the railway's members and some were even scratchbuilt. They are magnificent examples of locomotives from different era's and continents. The trains are all ride upon, some are made up of small carriages and are capable of seating around 14 full size passengers plus a few smaller ones being held seated. There is an age minimum of 12 months old to ride but not a maximum!
The train fares are very reasonable and entry to the railway is free. The railway operates on Sundays from May through to September, then it holds an Oktoberfest in October plus Santa Specials during December. In addition to all of this the railway holds special events where proceeds go to various charities. I visited the railway for the first time on September 16th 2018, which was a special event day with in aid of The British Legion. There was a 1940's theme including military exhibits from the second world war and various entertaining demonstrations held by the military ,plus the talented musician Matthew Quilliam playing the Banjo and Ukulele. Trains were running constantly and refreshments were always available at the very delightful cafeteria. All the station and railway members were very friendly, helpful and knowledgable, also very proud of the railway that they run so well. The military exhibits on the day were fascinating and , again accompanied by some very enthusiastic owners. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definately visit again and produce a more high resolution video, as on the day I only had my small camera with me.
The railway is ideal for a day's visit where you can enjoy good food and bring along your own picnic, it is a little gem for railway enthusiasts both very young and the more mature big kids. It has excellent clean facilities and is set in a pretty woodland easily accesible by car and public transport. For more detailed information visit the railway's website at
