莫爾佛塔遺址 (喀什) Ruins of Moore Pagoda (Kashgar)

Sand mandala: Tibetan Buddhist ritual
Mandalas are of profound symbolic value in Tantric Buddhism and are regarded by some as sacred. They can take a variety of forms: from simple diagrams and elaborate paintings on cloth, to complicated patterns of coloured sand and large three dimensional carved structures.
Sand Mandalas represent the universe and act as an architectural blueprint of the enlightened mind. They can also function as a contemplative aid in visualisation meditation.
Mandalas often refer to secret Tantric doctrine and highlight the ideals of the Buddhist path which includes putting an end to suffering, attaining enlightenment and understanding reality through the Wisdom of Emptiness.
At the heart of this medicine mandala is a lotus throne and on it is a sacred medical text. Seated within the petals of a lotus flower are the Eight Medicine Buddhas, who came into the world to save sentient beings from the five degenerations: shortened life-span, delusions, degenerate persons, time and wrong views. In the outer sections the disciples of the Medicine Buddhas are represented by symbols.
A rare opportunity to observe the creation and offering of a Mela or Medicine Mandala, made from tiny grains of vibrantly coloured sand, with Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Tashi Lhunpo monastery in India. Sand Mandalas are unique to Tibetan Buddhism, representing an architectural blueprint of the enlightened mind, functioning - among other things - as a contemplative aid in visualisation meditation.

Kites: Making of Fancy Kite
The Indian kites have come a long way, from the time they were introduced into this country. The shape of the Indian fighter kite has not changed since, shaped like a rhombus or the diamond shape. Only different types of materials, sizes and decorations on the kites had lead to different varieties in kites. But now apart from the kites made specifically for the purpose of flying, kites are also being used for many other promotional purposes. These new forms are special kites, which have a lesser following, but nonetheless their presence is becoming noticeable.

Gigantic Durga puja temple: Kolkata
Durga Puja is one of the most important events in the Bengali society's calendar. Many Bengali films, albums and books are released to coincide with the Puja. The West Bengal government gives a fortnight of holidays for the Pujas. This time is used in various ways. Many people travel in India or abroad. Gatherings of friends called Aadda in Bengali is common in many homes and restaurants. A lot of shopping is done, and retailers cash in on this opportunity with special offers.
Visiting pandals with friends and family, talking and sampling the food sold near them is known as pandal hopping. Young people embrace this activity. Pujor Gaan (Songs of Puja) are the Adhunik Bengali songs that come out every year during this time.

The worship of Durga in the autumn (Shôrot) is the year's largest Hindu festival of Bengal. Durga Puja is also celebrated in Nepal and Bhutan according to local traditions and variations. Puja means worship, and Durga's Puja is celebrated from the sixth to tenth day of the waning moon in the month of Ashvin (Ashshin), which is the sixth month in the Bengali calendar. Occasionally however, due to shifts in the lunar cycle relative to the solar months, it may also be held in the following month, Kartika. In the Gregorian calendar, these dates correspond to the months of September and October.

In the Krittibas Ramayana, Rama invokes the goddess Durga in his battle against Ravana. Although she was traditionally worshipped in the spring, due to contingencies of battle, Rama had to invoke her in the autumn akaal bodhan.[33] Today it is this Rama's date for the puja that has gained ascendancy, although the spring puja, known as Basanti Puja [One of the oldest 'sabeki' Basanti Puja is held every year at spring in Barddhaman Pal Bari at Raniganga Bazar, M.K.Chatterjee Rd near Karjon Gate], is also present in the Hindu almanac. Another famous portrait of Basanti Puja, can be found in Tangra Rakhal Chandra Das' Bari, which is more than half and a century old. Since the season of the puja is autumn, it is also known as ('Sharodia').
The pujas are held over a ten-day period, which is traditionally viewed as the coming of the married daughter, Durga, to her father, Himalaya's home. It is the most important festival in Bengal, and Bengalis celebrate with new clothes and other gifts, which are worn on the evenings when the family goes out to see the 'pandals' (temporary structures set up to venerate the goddess). Although it is a Hindu festival, religion takes a back seat on these five days: Durga Puja in Bengal is a carnival, where people from all backgrounds, regardless of their religious beliefs, participate and enjoy themselves to the hilt.
Kolkata is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly river, it is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port as well as its sole major riverine port. As of 2011, the city had 4.5 million residents; the urban agglomeration, which comprises the city and its suburbs, was home to approximately 14.1 million, making it the third-most populous metropolitan area in India. As of 2008, its economic output as measured by gross domestic product ranked third among South Asian cities, behind Mumbai and Delhi.[6] As a growing metropolitan city in a developing country, Kolkata confronts substantial urban pollution, traffic congestion, poverty, overpopulation, and other logistic and socioeconomic problems.
