GAME CHANGERS. REINVENTING THE 20TH-CENTURY SILHOUETTE
18 March 2016 - 14 August 2016
Game Changers looks at the groundbreaking work of fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga, whose innovations in the middle of the 20th century created a radically new silhouette, in which the body got freedom of movement and architectural volumes created a space around the body.
Influences from Japan, such as the kimono, liberated women from their tight corsets at the beginning of the 20th century. Fashion designers such as Madeleine Vionnet, Paul Poiret and Coco Chanel shaped this freedom in the 1920s–1930s with technical innovations and modern ideas about femininity.
At the end of the 20th century, the boundaries of the female silhouette are further explored by Japanese and Belgian designers such as Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons, Ann Demeulemeester and Martin Margiela. They paved the way for new body shapes and abstract silhouettes and gave a new interpretation of what could be considered as fashion.
This exhibition unites 150 unique couture and ready-to-wear silhouettes by Cristóbal Balenciaga, Gabrielle Chanel, Yohji Yamamoto and Iris van Herpen. With loans from prestigious collections of the museum of Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, the V&A, the Municipal Museum of The Hague, MUDE Lisbon and Musée Musée Galliera in Paris.

#180sec Antwerpen: Mode

Dries Van Noten. Inspirations at MoMu - Teaser | MoMu Antwerp
DRIES VAN NOTEN. INSPIRATIONS
12 February 2015 - 19 July 2015
For the first time in his career Dries Van Noten brought together his oeuvre in an exhibition. The exhibition brought together all the artistic fields with an assemblage of historical, pictorial, ethnic, cinematic, musical and geographic references. While stressing the influences, the analogies and the contradictions in Dries Van Noten’s work, the exhibition combined fashion design with the world of decorative and fine arts, in order to illustrate the Belgian creator’s distinctive techniques and stylistic vocabulary. Dries Van Noten has selected anonymous 19th century pieces and works by emblematic couturiers such as Elsa Schiaparelli and Christian Dior, to evoke intimate subject matters such as youth, the archetype, ambiguity and passion, while highlighting his ‘signature’ themes.
ANTWERP Fashion City
Antwerp and fashion are inseparable ever since 'the Antwerp Six' made headlines in the fashion world. Despite its modest size, this city has so much to offer with major fashion houses, cutting-edge boutiques, small independent designer boutiques, pace-setting concept stores and really cool vintage shops. Even you are not a fashionista, you will be charmed by this lovely city. Here, we show some of our favorite spots. Enjoy!
Graanmarkt 13
A restaurant, store , art gallery and apartment all rolled into one. The store is so well styled to the smallest details. It houses high-end fashion, curious design objects and collectibles which are cerefully selected.
Sissy Boy, Nationalestraat 28
It gives a relax feel once you step into this large space concept store that is not far from MOMU.
MOMU, Fashion Museum of Antwerp, Nationalestraat 28
MOMU is the a must to visit. It never fails to inspire for those who adores fashion. In the past, it hosts iconic designer like Martin Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto. And, don’t forget the bookshop at the entrance. This tiny bookshop has an impressive collection of designs, fashions and architectures.
Modepaleis, Nationalestraat 16
Can't visit Antwerp and just ignore Dries Van Noten's shop.
Ann Deumelemeester, Leopold de Waelplaats
Sally is a fan of Ann Deumelemeester. Her collections are dark and smart with her distinctive style. And of course, you must visit her flagship store. A bit out of the centre but it is all worth it!
Think Twice, Lange Klarenstraat 21 + Kammenstraat 85 +Jezusstraat 18
Think Twice or T2 is the best place to hunt for vintage items. Here, we furnish 3 addresses in Antwerp. If you are lucky, sometimes you can get a gorgeous embroidered Kenzo jacket for almost nothing.

BALENCIAGA :
