Licensed Instructor Barbara Stübenrath and her horses
From Barbara:
My name is Barbara Stübenrath, I am a licensed riding instructor Level 2 of the Ecole de Légèreté. I live in southern Germany near Stuttgart.
At the age of seven, I started riding on ponies, then vaulted and gradually rode on larger school horses. At the age of 18, I fulfilled my dream of having my own horse, which unfortunately broke its leg during a veterinary examination.
Later, I took over my Württemberger gelding “Boney M” from a friend. He was already very difficult. At that time everything was tried out, which the FN had to offer .... Without success. For that I apologize to my horse today. I am infinitely grateful to Boney, without him I would never have come to the Ecole de Légèreté.
At that time Monsieur Karl still had open courses in the Black Forest and so it happened that we started autodidactically (educating ourselves) with the help of videos and the book Irrwege der modern Dressur, to try it for ourselves in practice. Fortunately, the teacher courses of Mr. Karl started in southern Germany at this time, where I first participated as a spectator and guest rider. When a second course was launched, I was lucky enough to be there. I participated with my two Wuerttemberg horses, Boney M and Balan. Incidentally, they are full brothers and enjoy the best health at the age of 26 and 28 years. Under the direction of Sabine Mosen, Balan and I successfully passed the exam and Boney became a real riding horse.
Actually, I was looking for a gifted young horse. On holiday in Austria, Moses met us.
He stood with so many other Norikers at the auction in Stadl Paura. Since he was a colt, it was relatively clear that he would probably make his way to the butcher shop in Italy. Without much thought, we decided to buy him. .... Gone, the dream of a dressage horse ...
So, I started the education of Moses according to the principles of the Ecole de Légèreté. If Monsieur Karl says that this training is for every horse, then I wanted to put that to the test. What can I say? Moses has more than thanked me for the rescue operation in Austria and Monsieur Karl did not promise too much.
Of course there were times of doubt, problems and I often thought that I would reach my limits. It was a long journey that demanded perseverance, discipline and a constant questioning of the way. Now I can say that nothing could have happened to me better than this horse. What have I learned from and through him?
My thanks go to my horses, my husband and my family, who have always supported me, Monsieur Philippe Karl and his Ecole de Légèreté, Sabine Mosen and all my wonderful colleagues. Especially Katja Lauer, she believed in Moses from day one and supported me incredibly.
I feel richly gifted to do this work with the horses and my students and to be a small part of the “Légèreté family”.
