Joshua Tree (USA) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Joshue Tree in The USA.
The sky shines cloudless and blue above the two thousand square kilometres of Joshua Tree National Park in California. Both the fame and name of the park is derived from the innumerable and fantastic Joshua Trees that adorn its natural landscape. The southern section of the national park is influenced by the hot and arid Sonora Desert whilst in the higher altitudes of the north is the cooler Mojave Desert. Joshua Tree was given its name in the 19th century when a group of Mormons travelled across it while travelling to San Bernardino. The branches of the trees were reminiscent to them of arms pointing up to the heavens. Toward the end of the 19th century when the gold mines in the north of California had been stripped bare the rocks of this region suddenly created much interest. The precious metal was indeed discovered in some areas of the Little San Bernardino Mountains and for some it brought vast fortunes. But today the wealth of this region lies in its untouched wilderness and impressive beauty.

Joshua Tree Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about nature park Joshua Tree in the USA.
Approximately two hundred and thirty kilometres east of Los Angeles and close to Palm Springs is the Joshua Tree National Park. Founded in1994 this nature preserve near to the Little San Bernardino Mountains covers an area of around two thousand square kilometres. It consists of two different types of desert. In the southern part, the Sonora Desert extends to the neighbouring state of Arizona. The northern section of the park forms part of the Mojave Desert and, being in California, is located within a cooler climatic zone a thousand metres above sea level. Even its rock can be divided into two different geological forms. The powerful, dark scree mountains are called Pinto Gneis. The distinctly bright rock of the Monzogranite is the opposite of the Pinto Gneis that can be found in six different mountain ranges within the national park. The bulbous roots of the Joshua Tree were used by the Serrano Indians. Chopped and pounded they were transformed into soap, and string, mats and baskets were made from the plant’s leaves. At the end of the 19th century when the gold mines in the northern part of California had been abandoned, the region’s rocky terrain became a focus of attention. Gold diggers began to travel to the south of the State and in 1865 the precious metal was discovered in this region. The most successful gold digging area was Lost Horse Mine in the foothills of the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Each evening, fantastic sunsets cover this precious, untouched world with a fabulous light while the landscape becomes a captivating, blurred silhouette. When this colourful spectacle of Nature takes place the day draws to an end and the breeze takes a stroll across the vast expanses of the desert.

5 Fun Things to Do in Joshua Tree National Park, California | United States Travel Guide
5 Fun Things to Do in Joshua Tree National Park
With its Dr. Seuss-like Joshua trees stretching out across an almost lunar landscape of giant granite boulders and rolling mountains, Joshua Tree National Park is like something out of a children's story book. It's not uncommon to hear people using terms like magical or spiritual to describe how they feel about this park. Visitors come here to walk or hike among the trees, climb the towering rock walls, camp under the stars, capture the beauty in photographs, or simply soak up the tranquility of the desert.
Located where the Mojave and Colorado Deserts meet, the park has a complex landscape, with profoundly different appearances and vegetation depending on the elevation. Some areas are covered with mature Joshua trees as far as the eye can see, and others are completely devoid of these trees but offer their own unique beauty. Well positioned nature paths, hiking trails, and vehicle pullouts are spread throughout the park, providing easy access to this stunning landscape. Let's see five things to do in Joshua Tree National Park in California.
1. Hidden Valley Nature Trail and Day Use Area
2. Keys View
3. Barker Dam Nature Trail
4. Ryan Mountain Hike
5. Cholla Cactus Garden

Mojave Road Day 3 - Traveler’s Monument and a Broken Trailer
The last day on Mojave Road, and the little off-road trailer couldn’t take any more.
Perhaps the best treasure in eastern California's Mojave National Preserve is a pair of tracks that cross the middle of it. This famous trail is the Mojave Road, one of the early routes that brought American pioneers to California. This trail is unique in that for most of its 138 mile stretch it is in much the same condition as the pioneers would have found it, and a lot of the trail passes through country that is virtually unchanged since prehistoric times. The road bisects the Preserve, wandering from waterhole to waterhole, and is mostly a 4-wheel-drive trail.

Video Summary:
Located close to Palm Springs California, Joshua Tree National Park is comprised of the Mojave Desert and Colorado Desert. There are three entrances to the National Park, from the West, North and South. The southern entrance to the park will lead you in through the Colorado desert, where, quite interestingly, you won’t actually find any Joshua Trees.
The activities in Joshua Tree range from camping to very accessible hiking, strenuous hikes, backpacking trips and of course legendary climbing— and let us not forget star gazing. After all, Joshua Tree is dark sky park which means, the little-to-no light pollution allows the stars to put on a magnificent show.
WHERE TO STAY
Of the 16 campgrounds in Joshua Tree National Park, only half of them can be reserved ahead of time. During the low-season, all campgrounds are first-come, first serve. The campground that will work best for you will best be determined by what amenities you are looking for and what area of the park you are most wanting to explore. If you select a campground that is on another side of the park than your areas of most interest, you will end up spending a lot of time in the car traveling from one part of the park to the next. I personally have only stayed at Black Rock Campground but in the future, my eyes are definitely on White Tank Campground, Jumbo Rocks Campground and Ryan Mountain Campground.
During peak season, it is not unusual for the campgrounds to be filled up even mid-week. A great back-up plan to camp is utilizing the BLM dispersed camping that is available outside of the Park’s south entrance. Just remember that this camping is completely primitive.
Another lodging option, that I actually took advantage of during my most recent visit, was the really wonderful AirBNB community in Joshua Tree.
DINING
While Joshua Tree National Park has many picnic areas, there are absolutely no grocery stores or restaurants in the vast National Park. You will need to pack in with you what are you wanting or needing to consume during your trip.
WHERE TO HIKE
There are many miles of hiking available in Joshua Tree National Park. However, some key things to keep in mind are that pets are not permitted on any of the hiking trails. Also, the ten essentials are absolutely necessary for any length of hike in the park. You should absolutely plan to bring more water than you think you need. Even where it is not particularly hot, the desert is very dry and dehydration can sneak up on you.
Hiking with kids or non-hikers. Some places I would recommend visiting in this case would be Skull Rock, Barker Dam and Keys View. If you are looking for a more challenging hike with a still very well defined trail, I would recommend either the Panorama Loop or Ryan Mountain (for an added layer of excitement this can be done to view sunrise or sunset).
There are also trails in Joshua Tree that explore old mines, there’s Lost Palms Oasis as well as Warren Peak. Personally, I would suggest that if you are not particularly well versed in desert orienteering, I would highly suggest that you bring a GPS device. In any case, you should leave a detailed plan of your itinerary with someone that you trust. Getting lost in this desert is not forgiving but easily done.
If you are looking for a backpacking experience, the 8 mile one-way Boy Scout Trail and 35 mile one-way California Riding and Hiking Trail are great options depending on how long you are looking to spend out in the backcountry.

Joshua Tree First-timers take on Tent Camping in the California Desert
Our first time camping in Joshua Tree was an adventure. We had no plans, no camping reservation and no idea what we were in for. Those are the best trips though, right? We brought our two small dogs for a trip full of desert cacti, beautiful rock formations, and lots and lots of heat.
Where we stayed: White Tank
What we did: Geology Tour road, Arch Rock, Park Valley view, 29 Palms.
