The Mombasa-Nairobi railway is not just a milestone for Kenyan construction, but for gender equality too. Eight Kenyan women were selected to learn driving in China. Four of them will be driving the inaugural train.

Kenya @50: Asian African Heritage - The Railway Builders
As Kenya marks 50 years since unshackling itself from colonialism, it is perhaps time to look back at the history of some of Kenya's landmarks to better understand the contribution made by Kenyans of different races in shaping the country's future. For just two sterling pounds a month, an equivalent of 24,000 Kenya shillings at current exchange rates, and using nothing other than their bare hands and feet, indian labourers dared the man-eating lions of Tsavo to build the rail track from Mombasa to Kampala. Their sacrifices in the construction of the line nicknamed the lunatic express helped lay the foundation to a modern Kenya and book a special place for the Indian community in Kenya.

Nairobi to Mombasa by steam train in Kenya, Africa.
Film starts in a railway yard, various steam trains being shunted, shots of engines, close ups of wheels turning, young boy and his father climb aboard the driver's compartment of a good train, from the tracks. The train journeys through a town. Smiling black driver leans out his window. Train's name plate reads GALLA. Rural settings with trains going past the camera. Signpost for Kenani. Ibis birds graze in grass. Lion lies in grass. Various wildlife shots in close up of buffalo, rhino, elephant and deer.
Tsavo River, a sign explains that 28 men were killed by lions while works carried out to bridge the river for the railway. Various shots of steam trains as they cross the Tsavo Bridge, interspersed with clips of baboons.
View from a train through rural Kenya, women with baskets on their heads watch train pass. Views as the train nears Mombasa. Train with both goods and passenger cars passes under tunnel. Passengers filmed leaning out of train windows, wind in their hair! Entering Mombasa, train passes villages, kids wave at train. Some views of Mombasa, boats in harbour, a fort, view out to sea.
Back to trains being filmed as they pass the camera. Herd of Zebras drinking. Train filmed from a fast moving vehicle that keeps pace with the train. Birds eating bread that has been thrown to them. Further views of trains passing the camera, railway crossings and fast moving trains, again interspersed with safari shots of wildlife - giraffe, elephant with huge tusks, birds and deer. Film ends with more footage of steam trains passing the camera.
Money Talks: Kenya opens Nairobi–Mombasa railway
The new high-speed rail line, connects Kenya's two biggest cities, is open for business. It is the biggest infrastructure project in the country's modern history, and it's been built by China. The new line is expected to halve travel times between Nairobi and Mombasa. The government says it will give the economy a big boost. Azhar Sukri reports with analysis from Aly-Khan Satchu, Nairobi-based financial analyst.

China officially hands over the SGR to Kenya
China has officially handed over the Standard Gauge Railway to Kenya. President Uhuru Kenyatta has been joined at the Port of Mombasa by dozens of top officials from the Chinese companies that helped build and fund the railway project. The handover ceremony included traditional dancing and singing to mark this momentous occasion. The railway will eventually link up to the entire East African region. It's been called a potential game changer for Kenya and the region. President Kenyatta is due to leave from the Mombasa station on Wednesday morning to take the inaugural train to Nairobi. Well, our team is in Mombasa and has been getting us more on the SGR, the projects that go with it, and the potential benefits. Here's Ramah Nyang with more.

This is my story my indepth inside experience of the Madaraka Express yaani sgr kenya 2017 from sgr kenya first class to second classes.i will show you from booking the tickets to the waiting room ,to my tickets being checked ,my luggage being checked ,boarding the train,the beautifull stewardess ,the general epic service offered and plus the views from both the syokimau and miritini stations ..by the way the miritini wins the award of best views like damn the ocean views yasssss.
THE SGR-NAIROBI MOMBASA TICKETS AND ONLINE BOOKINGS
So apparently the way to get the tickets is at the Nairobi Terminus in Embakasi off the A104 along the old mombasa road or you can book online or through mpesa. sgr train NAIROBI TERMINUS you can board the old station from railways town and take you straight to the nairobi terminus with no hussle or you can board the sykomaus matatus located at railways ..the only info we could gather was that the tickets,train schedules departure time 0900hrs and arrival time is 1330hrs .and booking is as of now at the main stations.His Excellence President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the passanger SGR train
Update the train schedule are from 0900hrs and arrive at 1330hrs ..always be on time like 30 mins earlier coz the train will leave you like am not joking several passengers were late with one minute and were left.

IN A NUTSHELL since i love history the sgr train will take a distance of 472 kilometres it will have 33 stations it took approxi 327 billion ksh to finish this project. from experience the sgr train took 4 1/2 hrs from nairobi to mombasa terminal

this video was taken with a phone to show how easy its to travel to Mombasa on a low budget.(from Nairobi to Mombasa, ksh.1000 with an SGR Kenya, Uber Kenya ksh.1500 from Mombasa Terminus to the hotel.(Nyali)) on accommodation; its depends with your choice. moving from hotel to town, i rather use a tuk tuk because its of less hustle and cheap than an uber.

Marwa flags off new SGR trains from Mombasa
Coast regional co-ordinator, Nelson Marwa, flagged off the newly acquired Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) trains from Mombasa West Railway Station in Miritini, Mombasa County.
The passenger locomotives have a capacity to haul 1,096 travellers on a single trip. They will ply the 472km Nairobi-Mombasa route, making stopovers at 40 newly built stations.The entire journey is projected to take slightly over four hours. NTV's Peter Mwangangi is joining us LIVE from Mombasa.
