Greece Travel: Mykonos Island Greece
Welcome to the most famous cosmopolitan island of Greece, a white-painted paradise in the heart of the Cyclades. According to mythology, Mykonos was formed from a giant, petrified body killed by Hercules. And did you know that the island took its name from Apollo's grandson, Mykonos?
Enjoy the atmosphere along the lively seaside and admire a fleet of fishing boats that emit colorful reflections in blue waters. This is where you will find the Kazárma building, which serves as accommodation for the soldiers of Manto Mavrogenous, a female hero from the Greek Revolution. The first floor serves as his personal residence. When you are walking, don't be surprised if you find the official Mykonos mascot, which is nothing but pelican! Petros the Pelican was discovered by a fisherman after a storm in 1954, and eventually became a companion to the local population. When he died, the sadness of losing him was so deep that a replacement was soon found. In honor of Petros, local residents have built a long tradition of pelicans that roam the waterside as an important part of everyday life. So, whatever you do, don't forget to take a picture with the famous Pelican Petros successor!
One of the most beautiful angles on the island is Alefkántra or Little Venice, an 18th-century district, dominated by luxurious mansions with colorful balconies and stylish windows. With a balcony perched above the sea, photographs of the famous Italian city come to mind. Relax in the seaside café and admire the view of an ancient windmill that stands majestically on the hillside above, with a bright blue background.
Mykonos's second traditional settlement is Áno Merá, located around the historic monastery of Panayia Tourliani (a 16th-century church with brilliant iconostasis of wood carvings). In the north, in Fteliá, lies important Neolithic settlements, and the 14th-13th-century Mycenaean tomb.

Ano Mera, a quiet village in the center of Mykonos island.
Some may consider it the only village in the island, only 8Km away from Mykonos town. You can easily drive there through an asphalted road, or even take the local KTEL bus service from the old port.
It is maybe the only village where you will find three-storey buildings, not necessary traditionally built. It is generally considered a good place to have lunch or dinner at the central square, and many prefer it as a cheaper but not poorer in taste town alternative. The largest attraction is the Monastery and Church of Panagia Tourliani.
From Ano Mera it is easy to drive
either to Ftelia
or to Fokos
and Kalo Livadi

Tour of the Monastery of Panagia Chrysovitsa
The byzantine monastery of Panagia Chrisovitsa is located in the village Chrysovitsa and is dedicated to the Assumption. Oral tradition says that the village itself was named after the icon of Our Lady. The icon left in a miraculous way from the village of Striggania, District of Trichonida and the temple of Chrysovitzis, where it was originally found in 533 AD. After a series of wonderings the image found its way in a miraculous way to the Monastery of Barlaam, in Meteora and then the Monastery of Votza (Voutsa) in the neighboring village of Greveniti, and arrived at the forest of the village Palaiomylos (as the village was called before the holy image arrived and changed its name to Crysovitsa). The monastery was rich and had both monks and nuns.
Today the church of the monastery is in good condition. Archaeological research dates the monastery from 1781 based on the sign on the main temple. Inside we find beutifull wooden carvings and treasures.

Paradise Beach_ where we got our Hard Rock T-shirts.This party beach was originally made famous by the hippie generation dating back as far as 1969. This is still the place to go if you are looking for a beach where 'anything goes''.
Kalafatis Beach_the largest shaded area of any beach on Mykonos. The winds abound on Kalafatis Beach, setting the perfect stage for a windsurfer's paradise.
Ano Mera_The second traditional settlement of Mykonos is Áno Merá, situated around the historic monastery of Panayia Tourliani (a 16th century church with a brilliant carved wooden iconostasis).
Panayia Paraportiani,_5-in-0ne church. The island’s most famous and most photographed church is made up of four whitewashed chapels, topped by a further bright white chapel on the upper storey, reached by an external staircase. Built between the 14th and 17th centuries, the church once guarded the entrance to the town’s castle, long since destroyed. Famous sunset scene here.
Alefkántra or “Little Venice”, an 18th century district, dominated by grand captains’ mansions with colourful balconies and stylish windows. With balconies perched over the sea, pictures of the famous Italian city spring to mind.
Last but not least ,the quaint windmills standing imposingly on the hillside above, set against a luminous blue backdrop.
06 MYKONOS ANO MERA a DIMASTO KALAFATIS GRECIA
06 MYKONOS ANO MERA a DIMASTO KALAFATIS GRECIA
