Кирилло-Белозерский монастырь (также Кириллов) монастырь — мужской православный монастырь Русской Церкви; расположен на Севере России, на берегу Сиверского озера, в черте современного города Кириллов Вологодской области. Монастырь основали монахи Кирилл Белозерский — последователь Сергия Радонежского и Ферапонт Белозерский в 1397 году. Первоначально был возведен Успенский собор артелью ростовских мастеров. В XVI веке рядом с ним появился малый Ивановский монастырь. В те времена монастырь был форпостом Московского государства во вражеских землях Новгородской республики.
Кирилло-Белозерский монастырь являлся крупным феодалом-землевладельцем. В XV—XVII веках вёл обширную торговлю, особенно солью и рыбой. В конце XV-XVI веков монастырь был одним из центров религиозно-политического течения нестяжателей. В XV—XVII веках монастырь служил местом заточения лиц из светской и церковно-феодальной знати. В последствии монастырь богател, разрастался и несмотря на большой пожар в 1557 году стал крупнейшим каменным сооружением, уступавшим разве что Троице-Сергиевому монастырю. В 1764 году указом Екатерины II монастырь был лишен крестьян и угодий. В 1776 году из монастырской слободы образован город Кириллов и в крепостной стене размещается городская и уездная тюрьма. С этого момента начинается постепенный закат монастыря. Одно из самых древних и самых известных подворий монастыря было Кремлёвское Кирилловское подворье — подворье Кирилло-Белозерского монастыря в Московском Кремле. Подворье находилось недалеко от Фроловских ворот (ныне Спасская башня) при Афанасьевском монастыре. В 1770 году по случаю предложенного к сооружению проекта Баженовского дворца, Кирилловское подворье в Кремле было упразднено, а потом в 1776 году и совсем разобрано. На месте подворья и расчищенных других дворов образовалась обширная площадь. В комплекс Кирилло-Белозерского монастыря входят ансамбли большого Успенского и Ивановского монастырей («Старый город»), «Нового города» и территория несохранившейся крепости Острог между ними. Монастырь окружен крепостными стенами с монументальными башнями, украшенными узорами из кирпича.

Antarctica: See inside the southernmost Russian Orthodox Church
Members of the Antarctic Uruguayan base, journalists and other guests visited the Trinity Church in Russia’s Bellinsghausen Polar Station on Kind George Island, Antarctica, during the first week of December 2015. The priest explained to guest how the church was built as well as delivered a speech about the Orthodox and Christian churches in the twenty-first century.

Beaucoup de ces monastères étaient de puissantes forteresses s'inscrivant dans le système défensif des frontières septentrionales de la Russie.Le monastère de Kirillo-Biélozersk (Kirillo-Biélozerskiï monastyr), très bien conservé, souvent dénommé monastère de Saint Cyrille-sur-le-lac-Blanc, car son nom fait référence à Biélozersk qui se trouve sur le lac Blanc, a été fondé au XIVe siècle à proximité de la ville de Kirillov sur le territoire de la Principauté de Biélozersk en 1397 par Cyrille, un moine exceptionnellement pieux nommé à l'époque archimandrite du monastère Saint-Siméon de Moscou. In the 13th century, the territory on which Kirillov now stands was a part of the Principality of Beloozero, which was taken over by the Grand Duchy of Moscow in the 14th century.
In 1397, St. Cyril of White Lake, a monk and a disciple of St. Sergius of Radonezh, founded the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery on the shore of Lake Siverskoye.

Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery (Кирилло-Белозерский монастырь) situated on the shore of Lake Siverskoye in the town of Kirillov of the Vologda region, is the largest monastery in Europe. In the 15th-17th centuries, it was one of the largest and richest monasteries in Russia, the spiritual center of the Russian North. In 1924, the monastery was turned into a historical, architectural and art museum-reserve.
