Mi Barrio, La Sagrada Familia
Beginnings
This neighborhood is centrally located in eixample dreta, and the structure of the neighborhood is typical of the eixample: wide streets and blocks that are a perfect grid. It is 103.4 hectares in length.
The neighborhood originally began to form when many immigrants and laboroers can for the 1988 world exibition in barcelona, and once that came to a conclusion many of these people began to settle around the areas of what is now Passig San Juan and Valenica. Eventually the area expanded outwards, roads were built through donations by the Grassot broters, but it was a labor barrio and not included into part of the e'xiemple until much later in the 1900s.
Today, the area centers on the massive cathedral, La Sagrada Familia, designed by and worked on by Antoni Gaudi. It began construction in 1882 and is scheduled to be finished....sometime in the future. The foundation of the neighborhood consists of the square of the holy family, established in 1919, which used to be the only green area in the neighborhood.
The Neighborhood Today
La Sagrada familia is a neighborhood that has two very different extremes, when first getting off of the metro it is a very touristy area as people from all over the world come to see the great work of Antoni Gaudi and his architectural masterpiece La Sagrada Familia. From there you can walk up avenida gaudi and walk by all of the many restuaurants that line the street, my favorite is Babalonia. If you walk all the way up the diagonal avenue you will arrive at Hospital Sant Pau which is a hospital, a church, and an architectural masterpiece all in one.
La sagrada familia, away from the church is a very residential area with many apartment buildings filled with old people and young families. There are parks and schools all around the area where you can meet the locals. However, this area is becoming a popular place for many 30-something year olds to rent apartments because it is near the hospital (many are working a rotation at the hospital), and it is a very central location that is relatively cheap to live in.
The life style here is still reminiscent of past times with old people sitting in bars and families taking walks together, however, this life style is fleeting as the new urban world begins to take over. For example, the cheap Pakistani and Chinese stores that are creating too much competiton for the locals that have been there for generations.

Getting a medical card: First you have to do what they call empadronamiento which is going to the local council (ayuntamiento) and declaring you live in Barcelona and showing your passport and a copy of the contract for your apartment proving residency. Once you have done this, you can take your documents to any Cat Salut centre to get your medical card and other residential documents.

The Market
The pubic market in La Sagrada familia is located under the library. It has fresh vegetables, fruit, breads, homemade pastas, and meats. The market's products are much fresher than anything that can be found in the local capabro or open cor. Also, the people selling the produce know where it came from, when it ...

A beach is a repository of sediments unconsolidated ranging from sand and gravel, excluding the mud as it is not an alluvial plain or coast mangrove, which extends from the base of the dune or the limit where the vegetation ends to a depth where sediments no longer move. This depth varies between beach and beach depending on bathymetry, geomorphology and waves.
