During the first two days of the Lunar New Year, Mong Kok was the scene of skirmishes between riot police and anti-government protesters. Sunday evening January 26, 2020, started off with people enjoying the New Year food stalls, but after protesters blocked roads the riot police arrived on the scene. The police used teargas to disperse the crowd.

Mong Kok is an area in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and is one of the major shopping areas in Hong Kong. The area is characterized by a mixture of old and new multi-story buildings, with shops and restaurants at street level, and commercial or residential units above. Major industries in Mong Kok are retail, restaurants (including fast food) and entertainment. It has been described and portrayed in films as an area in which triads run bars, nightclubs, and massage parlors. With its extremely high population density of 130,000/km2 or 340,000 per square mile, Mong Kok was described as the busiest district in the world by the Guinness World Records
Yau Ma Tei Info:
Yau Ma Tei is an area in the Yau Tsim Mong District in the south of the Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong. The district is mainly an area of mixed residential and retail. During day time, the Yau Ma Tei wet market and fruit market are the markets to visit, buying souvenirs like dried noodles and some fruits. Every night there is a market selling many different kinds of products including clothes, decorations, VCD and toys in Temple Street.

Hong Kong protesters vent anger on streets of Mong Kok, set fire to bank
Angry protesters in Hong Kong built roadblocks, vandalized stores, and set fire to the Bank of China and Mong Kok MTR station on Monday as chaos once again descent in the city.
Hundreds of protesters gathered in central Hong Kong to voice their discontent against police violence after an officer fired live rounds at close range at protesters in Sai Wan Ho on the eastern side of Hong Kong island and one 21-year-old protester was wounded.
More than 60 people were wounded on Monday, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said in an address.

Hong Kong Police Clash with Protesters in Mongkok
Hong Kong riot police clashed with protesters in the densely populated Mongkok region, Tuesday, September 3. Skirmishes broke out after a series of peaceful rallies when a small group surrounded a police station. Protests have been ongoing in Hong Kong for more than three months, many of them violent. China is eager to assuage the unrest before the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1.
Hong Kong protesters, riot police standoff outside Mong Kok station
Hong Kong riot police and protesters clashed outside Mong Kok station as demonstrators demanded CCTV footage of alleged police brutality.
Police shot rubber bullets and fired tear gas to disperse the protesters into Prince Edward MTR station as demonstrators burned paper money creating a giant bonfire.
