Mongolian Gobi Tour with Degii
Meet your tour guide in Mongolia: Delgermaa,
???????? Mongolia: a travel documentary
#Mongolia #Travel #Documentary
An adventure into an amazing country. 4 seasons packed into 15 days
The Summer: the Gobi is not just a desert. Is a unique region comprising of mountains, sand dunes, grass lands and flat pans. Life here is though not only physically (due to the arid climate) but also mentally: before reaching the mountains and the dunes, the so-called middle Gobi is an immense flat pan with no landmarks for miles. It's mental as it seems to be in an infinite area that will never end.
The Spring: the Orhon valley. This is the Mongolia typical postcard. Green land and blue sky dotted with white ghers (the local typical tents) and clouds. Full of livestock, every valley in the region shows the nomadic life of Mongolians that has been going on for centuries. In the town of Karkhorin, very little ruins bring your mind to the era of Chinggis Khan when Mongolians run for more than two centuries the largest empire that ever existed in human history.
The Autumn: as we moved North to reach the Hovsgol lake, we had to pass through a range of mountains. The weather turned rainy, grey and cold as if we were on a November day in Europe. Crossing rivers started to became a concern and mud appeared on all trails. Rain never stopped for 2 days.
The Winter: on the highest pass the rain became snow. On the Zoolongyin pass, we got stuck with our cars for more than 3 hours. Trying to get the cars out of the snow and mud was though. Eventually we did manage to get over.
The Spring again: lake Hovsgol is Mongolian's largest lake and beach holiday place. Here we abandoned the green Mongolian valley to enter the Taiga, the coniferous forest. We are close to the border with Russian Siberia here

The sky, which is clear in the volatile spring weather, suddenly starts to warm up in the dark clouds. Besides, we started to get down to the rain and we decided to stay overnight in a nearby Mongolian house, Ger. Nomads who constantly move and live according to the seasonal cycle. It is not easy to see the same nomads again at the same spot. However, it seems to be familiar with treating each other as if it is between guide and knowing. I have to contact you originally, but this home phone number has changed and I have not been able to make calls within six months, so I came right away and I feel so good that I am still there. The hostess who was preparing dinner finally invited us to have Mongolian dishes together. In the autumn when the goats are growing, this is what happens when you make jerky meat prepared for food in November and December. It is not easy to eat with this beef jerky. In spring or summer, I make jerky noodle soup. Sudden change of weather made me feel cold. The combination of goat jerky and curry noodles, I wonder if it will taste really. I drink from broth once. Taste is more sophisticated than thought. Also, the jellyfish, which is a meat loaf, makes you feel full. In the middle of the Gobi Desert, I see the use of a telephone and watching TV in my eyes. It's a fun Korean drama. As the times have changed, the Mongol nomads use satellite TV and telephones, and electricity uses solar heat. By the dawn, I followed the nomad who went to look after the livestock. The cubs of spring-born livestock are the greatest property of the nomads and family members. Nowadays, the thing he cares about most is feeding the baby goat with milk. You have to hold on to this force until the baby goat is milked. In spring, the mother goat's food is scarce and the mother's milk is not enough. So I force the young goat to breast feed. If you do not do this, the new goat will starve to death. Learn the wisdom of the nomadic life with the livestock and spend the first night in the Gobi Desert.

10. SOUNDBITE (Mongolian) Batbold Sukhbaatar, Mongolian Prime Minister:
Because of global climate change, Mongolia is experiencing harsh weather and natural disasters. The frequency of natural disasters and of windy and hot periods has increased. This seriously affects the living standards for Mongolian people. Last winter and spring, 20 percent of Mongolian livestock perished in the coldest winter for decades and thousands of herder households lost their livelihood. This is due to global climate change. This year, summer has been good. But still many parts of Mongolia, especially the Gobi desert area, are experiencing drought.

STORYLINE:
Top Mongolian officials donned dark green Save our planet baseball caps, and set up tables and chairs in the sands of the Gobi desert for a Cabinet meeting to draw attention to climate change.
The meeting of twelve government ministers was held in scorching heat on Friday in Gashuunii Khooloi, a sandy valley in South Gobi province, about 415 miles (670 kilometres) south of Ulan-Bator, the country's capital.
The ministers, in suits and ties, arrived in the desert in jeeps after a 15-hour journey. Officials planted a Mongolian flag in the ground, set up long tables and chairs in the fine, golden sand and discussed climate change against the backdrop of a vast expanse of desert and a bright blue sky.
Prime Minister Batbold Sukhbaatar said Mongolia had experienced one of the harshest winters for decades and a fifth of the country's livestock died.
Because of global climate change, Mongolia is experiencing harsh weather and natural disasters, he said. The frequency of natural disasters and of windy and hot periods has increased. This seriously affects living standard for Mongolian people.
The government blames global warming for a decrease in rainfall and says that rising average temperatures have caused many rivers and springs to dry up and snow cover to melt.
It also says the frequency of natural disasters and drought has jumped.
The site for the meeting was chosen because parts of it used to be arable land, said Badarch, head of social policy for South Gobi province, who like some Mongolians uses only one name.
The government said it hoped that delegates to global climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, in November, would reach a decision favourable for landlocked, developing countries ... very much affected by climate change and desertification.
In December, Nepalese officials held a Cabinet meeting at Mount Everest to highlight the danger global warming poses to glaciers. It followed an underwater Cabinet meeting in the Maldives in October to underline the threat of rising sea levels.

Akhil Bakshi - Across Siberia and Mongolia
This is an account of our journey on the Trans-Siberian and Trans-Mongolian Railways in June 2014. Leaving Moscow, we were on train for four days riding through the Siberian taiga - till we got to Irkutsk. Taking a break at Irkutsk, we spent three days on Olkhon Island in Lake Baikal. Continuing the rail journey, we rode along Lake Baikal - and into the Mongolian steppes. Breaking our journey again in Ulaanbaatar - we drove, for four days, through the rolling grasslands full of horses, sheep - and some yaks - and visited Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia. Another day's rail journey through the Gobi Desert brought us to Beijing.
Accompanying me were my wife, Sharmila, and daughter Anahitaa.

We headed to Hong Gollin Els, which is on the west side of the southern desert, our next destination. In Mongolia, as you go westward, you can see livestock grazing all over the country. A bivalent camel that can be seen only in the deserts of southern Mongolia. I can store two nodules in the back without eating or drinking for a few days. The words of Mongolia are also special. Endurance is strong and can run long. Recently, however, the Gobi Desert has been suffering from severe spring droughts, which can not tolerate these livestock. It is only a sad heart to thirsty animals.

Mongolian Reindeer Herders Live the Simple Life
These Mongolian reindeer herders have been living the simple life for generations. In a small community of 280 in the Taiga forest near the Mongolian border with Russia, these Dukha people spend their days taking care of their reindeer. The reindeer provide food, tools and transportation to these people, who are amongst the smallest ethnic groups in the world. Since their ancestors domesticated reindeer thousands of years ago, the lifestyle of this group has hardly changed. They practice shamanism, live in tents and survive off of the land.
