Cat Dua (đảo Cát Dứa) Pineapple island or often known as Monkey Island is located in the area of Nam Cat, Lan Ha Bay. To get to this island, you’ll go to Beo harbor, hire a boat to go to Monkey Island. It only takes you 15 minutes before the pristine, beautiful island appear in front of your eyes.
Monkey island is about 5 km round with the front side are 2 sandy beaches and the back side is like rocky mountain. The beaches here are very beautiful with pine apple trees on the beach and many kind of green trees on the mountain.
The most unique feature of the island are the monkeys – there are about 20 individuals living on the island’s forest. When the tourists come, the monkey come down and get close in order to get food. You can feed them but it’s not wise to tease or bother them because they do bite and fight back.
Monkey Island is one of the appealing tourist addresses tourists should not miss in Cat Ba Island. It takes about 10 minutes for tourists to set foot on the island by boat from Beo wharf through Cai Beo fishing village and some small islands. Almost all of cruises and tourist ships have stopped here in order that tourists have an opportunity to admire the masterpieces that nature has bestowed Cat Ba. Thanks to its inherent advantages, Monkey Island Cat Ba has long become one of the appealing tourist attractions in Cat Ba alluring both domestic and international tourists. Monkey Island is worth the highlight of Cat Ba travel in particular and one of the most bewitching tourist attractions in Haiphong in general attracting numerous tourists.
The island was formerly known as Cat Dua Island because there are the great number of luxuriant high pandanus shading around. The fruits of pandanus here looks fairly good, yet they are not edible. The fishermen here usually pick them up for drenching or drying as medicines. Cat Dua Island is also an ideal rendezvous for swimming with blue water and white sandy shores formed from coral debris. Cat Dua Island today is call Monkey Island by the locals here thanks to the presence of several dozen of monkeys. Almost all of monkeys in Cat Dua are brought here for living by the rangers. They are thus quite bold with the locals and tourists. They even seize food right from tourists' hands and might bite if provoked. However, it is the untouched uniqueness that makes the island become famous alluring the large number of tourists in Cat Ba tours. Discovering Monkey Island is definitely one of the most unforgettable things to do in Cat Ba.
Monkey Island retains the perimeter of about 3 km. It owns mountain shape with the sandbank formed over millions of years. The wave and wind have brought the sand, rocks, coral and all shells of sea creatures such as seashells, shrimps, and crabs... to the foot of the mountain creating the sand stretching for miles. Monkey Island Cat Ba is home to 2 arc-shaped beaches, namely Cat Dua 1 Beach and Cat Dua 2 Beach. This is an ideal venue for swimming for tourists when participating in Cat Ba tour thanks to its extremely blue and fresh water. In particular, the bungalows here are the ideal choice for tourists to comfortably admire the sea breeze and enjoy sea flavor. Monkey Island also offers services for tourists' demands such as bathing suit renting, buoys or kayaks... Monkey Island deserves one of captivating tourist Cat Ba attractions for tourists who love to discover charming scenery.
Cat Dua 2 Beach is situated behind the tiger-shaped ledge on the right. The beach retains a several hundred square meter large garden with the large number of unique plants and different types of birds. Going to Monkey Island, the majority of tourists who are interested in exploring strange feelings can climb halfway up the mountain, even up to the mountain top for admiring the stunning panoramic view of Lan Ha Bay with hundreds of multi-sized islands growing up on blue water along with white sandy shores from afar.
Thanks to the beautiful unspoiled natural scenery along with wonderful beaches, Monkey Island Cat Ba has become a highlight of Cat Ba travel. It is also the first stop of the tourist route on Lan Ha Bay alluring both domestic and international tourists.
Discovering Monkey Island is definitely one of the most unforgettable things to do in Cat Ba.

Alcoholic Monkey steals BEER cans from the trash bin and drinks the last drop! See how the monkey chooses exactly what cans it will take from trash, and it will not take the Coca-Cola, it smells the can and chooses 2 cans of Bia Ha Noi beer...yes we are on MONKEY ISLAND ????️ LAN HA BAY with a tour boat from Cat Ba Island where I'm staying. The other (?) monkey will then do an amazing manoeuvre on me, piercing my bag in a split second and grabbing a small milk pack through the precise hole, while the bag is in my hand. They then try to drink the milk.
Another attraction of Monkey Island is to climb up on the Mountain to see the view. However if you arrive with a group, everyone will try climbing that peak and the path is so narrow that only one person fits through at a time. Meaning that a huge queue will form and the space at the top is so narrow that only few people can get up there to take their seifies and unless they climb down soon, EVERYONE ELSE will be stuck on the path!! The view from the path, only has one opening, so better stop right there, instead of going higher. because you might be stuck in the tropical forest with no view for who knows how many hours and given the fact that you only have 2 hours time on MONKEY ISLAND before your boat comes to get you, you might end up wasting your whole time just trying to see the view and not getting to see it!
The climb is really dangerous because many stones are polished and extremely slippery and other stones are full of very spiky blades to crash on when you slip and fall...add to that the masses of people..not a fun climb! There is a hotel on the island so people sleeping there over night might have best chance to do an enjoyable climb before the zillion tour boats arrive.

im Oktober war ich für einen Kurztrip mit einer deutschen Freundin in Vietnam. Wir hatten nur einen Abend in Hanoi bevor es am nächsten Morgen weiter ging nach Ha Long Bay bzw. Cat Ba. Also haben wir in Hanoi den Night Market besucht und etwas geshoppt. Am nächsten Tag ging es dann per Bus auf einer vierstündigen Fahrt von Hanoi nach Tuan Chau – am letzten Hafen vor der Ha Long Bay. Nach der Rundtour wurden wir mit verschiedenen Verkehrsmitteln zum Monkey Island Resort gefahren.
Unser Hotel in Hanoi war das Pullman:

Ich persönlich fand den Shuttle hin und zurück zu lange. Daher gebe ich Euch den Tipp, diese Tour nicht zu buchen. Denn von zwei Tagen ist am in der Summe knapp 10 Stunden alleine nur für den Transfer unterwegs. Am besten alles selbst organisieren.
Zum Beispiel: 2 Tage in Hanoi. Dann selbst eine Unterkunft in der Nähe von Ha Long Bay buchen und dann auch max. 2 Tage für Ha Long Bay einplanen. Dann per Shuttle weiter zum Monkey Island Resort. Dort dann ggf. 2-3 Nächte bleiben, Dann sollte auch alles nicht zu stressig sein und man bleibt auch noch Erholt nach der schönen Zeit auf Monkey Island.

Monkey Island is a very beautiful island in Catba beach town, Hai Phong city, Vietnam. This island has 2 beautiful beaches for swimming and there is mountain for you to go up and take nice pictures of Lan Ha bay with thousands of islets around.
It's a must visit to Monkey Island for some awesome views. Don't forget to take some water along with you while you’re hiking because I missed on that part lol but was an amazing experience to count on!!

Choosing the right tour or a reliable tour operator for a trip to Halong Bay can be a difficult task. After considerable research, we went with the recommendation by our friendly hotel staff in Hanoi and went on a 3-day, 2-night deluxe tour with the Imperial Junk.
Follow along as we explore Halong Bay, visit the Hang Sung Sot Cave, go on a bicycle ride on Cat Ba Island and kayak to isolated beaches.
Although it was a 2-night tour, we only spent one night on the Imperial Junk. The second night was spent in a beautiful beach-side bungalow on Monkey Island.
