British explorer Simon Chapman travels north up the Nujiang river to Gongshan, but finds his path to the snow monkey blocked so he heads west over two mountain ranges to the Lancang river (Mekong).

Colorful village in SW China
A village in southwest China's Yunnan Province is becoming popular thanks to its special wall art.
The Jinlong village, in Lijiang City has 442 houses -- each has its walls painted with at least one of nine colors, and some are three-dimensional.
Though the wall decor is still being processed, the village is already drawing hordes of tourists.

This house is so colorful. We can't see it elsewhere. We love taking pictures here.
The wall paintings are indeed part of the village's efforts to boost tourism.
Relevant tourist projects are expected to be operational in August.

Not far from Sha Xi village, is a little mystifying location, in the Jian Chuan county.
The structures are built around and merged with the naturally existing caves on the flank of the cliff.
Wild monkeys come to enjoy the view as well.
Li River and Jade Snow Mountain:
The area, close to the Li river and Jade snow mountains is quite popular among tourists.
Tea Horse Road:
Besides being home to numerous ethnic minorities, Yunnan province was once transited by a famous tea trading rout a.k.a Tea Horse Road.
Torrential Rains Batter Yunnan Province, Damaging 100 Houses
A bout of torrential rains lashed southwest China's Yunnan Province, affecting more than 10,000 people and damaging 100 houses in Gongshan Derung and Nu Autonomous County, according to the latest data released by the county on Saturday.

Eighteen Oddities in Yunnan (Chinese: 云南十八怪; pinyin: Yúnnán Shíbā Guài; sometimes called Eighteen Wonders of Yunnan) are eighteen unique traits of the Yunnan province of southwest China. The oddities, which are as follows, are generally presented in the form of a list, which is promulgated in promotional materials advertising the province to foreign and domestic tourists.

Three mosquitoes make up a dish - mosquitoes are so large that it is said that just three are large enough to make a meal
Bamboo is used to make water pipes for smoking
