Monmouth is the historic county town of Monmouthshire, Wales. Monmouth is situated where the River Monnow meets the River Wye, within 2 miles of the border with England. The town of Monmouth is 30 miles northeast of Cardiff, and 113 miles west of London.
Monmouth was the site of a small Roman fort, Blestium, and became established after the Normans built a castle here after 1067. Monmouth medieval stone gated bridge is the only one of its type remaining in Britain. The Monmouth castle later came into the possession of the House of Lancaster, and was the birthplace of King Henry V in 1387. In 1536, it became the county town of Monmouthshire.
Monmouth later became a tourist centre at the heart of the Wye Valley, as well as a market town. It now serves as a shopping and service centre, and as a focus of educational and cultural activities for its surrounding rural area.
Monmouth is located in an area of Devonian old red sandstone, at the point where the River Wye is joined by its tributary, the River Monnow, and immediately north of the point at which the smaller River Trothy flows into the Wye from the west.
Monmouth is located beside the A40 dual carriageway road that links the M4 motorway at Newport in South Wales with the M50 motorway at Ross-on-Wye; this connects in turn with the M5 motorway south of Worcester in the West Midlands.
Monmouth has been without passenger rail services since January 1959 although goods trains ran until 1964. Monmouth's main railway station, known as Monmouth Troy, was a coal distribution depot and a base for heavy goods vehicles for many years after its closure as a part of the rail network, but the building has now been dismantled and re-erected at Winchcombe railway station on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. The other station at Monmouth was Monmouth May Hill on the Ross and Monmouth Railway

[Wikipedia] Monmouth Castle
Monmouth Castle (Welsh: Castell Trefynwy) is a castle in the town of Monmouth, county town of Monmouthshire, south east Wales. It is a Grade I listed building and scheduled monument.
Monmouth Castle is located close to the centre of Monmouth on a hill above the River Monnow, behind shops and the main square and streets. Once an important border castle, and birthplace of Henry V of England, it stood until the English Civil War when it was damaged and changed hands three times before being slighted to prevent it being fortified again. After partial collapse in 1647, the site was reused and built over by Great Castle House, which became the headquarters and regimental museum of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers.

ADMIRAL NELSON'S coat when he died in Trafalgar (1805), GREENWICH (LONDON)
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go and view Vice-admiral's undress coat worn by Nelson (1758-1805) at the Battle of Trafalgar. It is displayed at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London.
Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson (29 September 1758 – 21 October 1805) was a British flag officer in the Royal Navy. He was noted for his inspirational leadership, superb grasp of strategy, and unconventional tactics, all of which resulted in a number of decisive naval victories, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. He was wounded several times in combat, losing one arm in the unsuccessful attempt to conquer Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the sight in one eye in Corsica. He was shot and killed during his final victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Back to the uniform now; there is a bullet hole on the left shoulder, close to the epaulette. The damage to the epaulette itself is also apparent. The coat is of blue wool cloth with a stand-up collar and button-back lapels. On the left side, Nelson's four orders of chilvary - Knight of the Bath, Order of the Crescent, Order of Ferdinand & Merit and Order of St Joachim - are sewn to the front of the coat and over the edge of the lapel so that it could not be unbuttoned. The sleeves terminate in an extremely narrow round cuff with two rows of gold distinction lace and three flag officers buttons. The left sleeve is lined with black silk twill, but the right is lined with the same fabric only as far as the elbow. At the end of the right sleeve is a small black silk loop which would have secured the sleeve to a lapel button. The tails and breast are lined with white silk twill and the shoulders are quilted with running stitch. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com
