Outstanding Montana State Capitol Building - Helena, Montana MT
Step inside the beautiful Montana State Capitol building in Helena, Montana. The building was constructed between 1896 and 1902 with wing-annexes added between 1909 and 1912. It is made with Montana sandstone and granite, is in Greek neoclassical architectural style, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The exterior of the dome is covered with copper. Atop the dome is a feminine statue affectionately dubbed Lady Liberty. The most notable feature inside the center of the Capitol building is the massive rotunda, with four circular paintings surrounding it. These paintings were painted for the capitol opening in 1902. They depict four important types of people of Montana's early history: a Native American, an explorer and fur trapper, a gold miner, and a cowboy.
The bronze statue on the second level are of Maureen and Mike Mansfield (US Representative, US Senator and Ambassador to Japan). The mural above the staircase is Driving the Golden Spike (1893) for Northern Pacific Transcontinental Rail Road.

4K City Walks: Helena, Montana 4K virtual treadmill walking tour
Helena Montana is more than just the state capitol. It's a great city with great museums and restuarants and breweries and a love of the outdoors. Just minutes from the Missouri River and Canyon Ferry lake. It also has some wonderful history. I stopped off on my way to Whitefish to take a 45 minute walking tour through the city. I started at the capitol and made my way over to the walking mall and cathedral. I'm trying a new camera on this one so it's in full 4K video.
See links below that I mention in the video.
If you're visiting Helena and looking for things to do, here's a few we listed on one of our other channels:
Helena is the state capital of the U.S. state of Montana and the county seat of Lewis and Clark County.
Helena was founded as a gold camp during the Montana gold rush, and was established in 1864. Over $3.6 billion of gold was extracted in the city limits over a duration of two decades, making it one of the wealthiest cities in the United States by the late nineteenth century. The concentration of wealth contributed to the city's prominent, elaborate Victorian architecture.
At the 2010 census Helena's population was 28,190, making it the fifth least populous state capital in the United States and the sixth most populous city in Montana. It is the principal city of the Helena Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Lewis and Clark and Jeffersoncounties; its population is 77,414 according to the 2015 Census Estimate.
The local daily newspaper is the Independent Record. Professional sports teams include the Helena Bighorns Tier III Junior A hockey team. The city is served by Helena Regional Airport (HLN).
On July 14, 1864, the discovery of gold by a prospecting party referred to as the Four Georgians, in a gulch off the Prickly Pear Creek led to the founding of a mining camp along a small creek in the area they called Last Chance Gulch.
The townsite was first surveyed in 1865 by Captain John Wood. However, many of the original streets followed the chaotic paths of the miners, going around claims and following the winding gulch. As a result, few city blocks are consistent in size; rather they have an irregular variety of shapes and sizes
Reeder's Alley
Reeder's Alley is situated in the southwest corner of downtown Helena, the capitol of Montana. It is the oldest intact piece of early Helena. The property is a strong link to the beginnings of a settlement here, offering insights into the lives of miners, the Chinese influence, building techniques of the time, and life of the common men and women who came here seeking their fortune.
Today, Reeder's Alley is home to a great restaurant, caterer, a number of offices, non-profit organizations, and Visit Helena. Stop in and say hello when you walk through the alley.
