SUMMARY
=======
The Ozark National Scenic Riverways is a national park in the Ozarks of southern Missouri in the U.S..
The park was created by an Act of Congress in 1964 to protect the Current and Jacks Fork rivers, and it was formally dedicated in 1971. The park's 80,000 acres (324 km2) are used for many forms of recreation and are home to abundant animal and plant species. 1.3 million recreational visits are estimated annually. Canoeing is one of the most popular activities. Kayaking and inflatable rafts and tubes add to the volume of river floaters. Motorized boating with jonboats is also a popular activity of locals and nearby Missourians. Other activities include horseback riding, hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, birdwatching, nature photography, and sightseeing.
The park service promotes the Current River as one of the midwest's best float streams, in part due to the contributions of some of the nation's largest springs. The headwaters of the Current River begin at the confluence of Pigeon Creek and Montauk Springs in Montauk State Park. Other notable springs along its course include Welch Spring, Cave Spring, Pulltite Spring, Round Spring, Fire Hydrant Spring, Ebb and Flow Spring, Blue Spring, Big Spring, and Gravel Spring. The park contains the United States' largest concentration of first magnitude springs (which are defined as having average flow of more than 100 cu ft/s (2.8 m3/s)) in dolomite rock. The only comparable spring collections are the limestone springs of North Florida near Gainesville and the igneous-based springs of Idaho's Snake River.
The park includes many caves, including Round Spring Caverns, which offers ranger-led tours in the summer. Other notable caves include the Devils Well sink and Jam-Up Cave. The park is traversed by the Ozark Trail, a popular long-distance hiking trail that passes Rocky Falls and crosses the Current River on Highway 106 at Powder Mill.
The park has resident feral horses and elk have been reintroduced on state lands nearby and are expected to eventually populate the park.
Historic sites include Alley Spring and Alley Spring Roller Mill, Buttin Rock School, Walter Klepzig Mill and Farm, Reed Log House, Welch Hospital and many CCC structures at Big Spring.
Facilities include campgrounds along the two rivers at Alley Spring, Round Spring, Pulltite, Two Rivers and Big Spring. There are also a number of less developed primitive campsites, and there are group sites at Akers, Round Spring, Alley and Pulltite. Park rangers present campfire programs and nature hikes at the bigger campgrounds during the summer. There are also traditional craft demonstrations and free bluegrass concerts.
The park is located mostly in Shannon County with parts extending into Carter, Dent, and Texas counties. Communities surrounding the Ozark National Scenic Riverways include Eminence, Licking, Salem, Van Buren, Ellington, Bunker, and Mountain View, Missouri. Administrative offices are located in Van Buren. The Big Spring Historic District in Carter County was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

The Fisherman Magazine's New England Fishing Forecast with Toby Lapinski for April 7, 2016
Well the big news locally right now is the opening of trout fishing season this Saturday, April 9, in both Rhode Island and Connecticut. You lucky anglers up in Massachusetts have been banging away at some great trout action the last few weeks, and now it’s time for our friends in RI & CT to play! For a look at where each of the New England states has stocked trout so far this year, check out the article I put together at TheFisherman.com.
Also, for those of you who will be fishing in CT & MA, check out the promotion that was put together by Capt Greg Debrule of the Black Hawk. He has teamed up with Raymarine, Fisherman’s World and The Fisherman Magazine to bring you the 2016 Tagged Trout Promotion. You can get all the details both in the April monthly magazine as well as online at TheFisherman.com, but essentially if you are signed up for the Black Hawk and Fisherman’s World email lists, and then you catch one of the specially-tagged trout between April 9 and May 7, then you’ll be eligible for part of more than $15,000 in awesome prizes! I just spoke to Greg and he has also decided to stock several special trout which will carry a $1000 prize if landed on Opening Day and the angler is signed up for his email list. There will be fish stocked in both Massachusetts and Connecticut so be sure to read the article at TheFisherman.com for all the details!
Oh, and be sure to take some pictures of your catches this weekend and beyond and send them to me at tlapinski@thefisherman.com as I am always looking for possible cover shots as well as pictures for both the printed reports section and right here in the weekly videos.
And speaking of the printed reports, this week marks the return to our weekly print schedule for subscribers. Remember that we modified the print schedule here at The Fisherman 2 years ago and we are now weekly from April through November. Those weekly issues are only available to subscribers and through some of our select advertisers so be sure to subscribe so that you are able to stay on top of al the action and get the full list of benefits that we offer.
Connecticut
• As I noted a moment ago, trout season opens in Connecticut this Saturday at 6 AM and this has a lot of the local anglers and tackle shops on the ready. But if you’re looking to bend a rod prior to Saturday morning’s festivities then the holdover striper bite cross the state is tough to beat right now. As I have said in the past there are fish to be had at more than just the one big river where everyone fishes so don’t be afraid to branch out and try other spots.
Rhode Island
• The cod fishing off Block was lights-out until the poor weather/wind arrived over the weekend and has kept many of the boats at the dock since. I see no reason why it won’t be back to solid fishing at the next weather window so if the opening day of trout season this Saturday is not your cup of tea, then call your favorite boat and see when they plan to head back out.
• But it’s not all about trout and cod right now in RI. Michael Laboissoniere caught this 4-pound largemouth bass on a med-heavy shiner while fishing at Mountaindale Reservoir in Smithfield, RI. Spring bass fishing is a great time to target some hefty fish and they are rather predictable in their movements as local lakes and ponds begin to warm up.
Massachusetts
• I finally have something other than trout to mention in Massachusetts. As many of you know I grew up in the western part of the state, and one of my favorite fisheries was for American shad in the spring. Well I received my first report of shad being caught up in South Hadley as Samantha Warren landed several fresh fish over the weekend. If you have never fished for shad then I must say that you are missing out as they are one of the hardest-fighting fish for their size that you’re going to encounter in local waters. They can be caught in the Connecticut River to the west and the Merrimack river out east so there are options for anglers on both ends of the state.

The Nightmare World of Gang Stalking
More than 10,000 people worldwide claim they're the victims of a vast organized surveillance effort designed to ruin their lives, a phenomenon known as gang stalking. Mental health experts see gang stalking as a symptom of paranoia, but the self-identified victims who insist what they're experiencing is real have come together online and in support groups to share their stories.
VICE met up with a handful of Americans who claim their lives have been derailed by gang stalking to understand what serious consequences the phenomenon presents. Then we hear from Dr. Josh Bazell, one of many physicians who believes the victims of gang stalking are experiencing dangerous delusions that could be treated by mental health professionals.
