Abandoned Luxury Resort Hotel in the Azores
Abandoned Luxury Resort Hotel in the Azores
In this last vlog in the Azores we decided to go explore the island of Sao Miguel one last time! We set out to see the green tea plantations and have some of the famous green tea from this region. We then had a look at the Monte palace Hotel, which used to be a five-star luxury resort. Finally, we had a look at a pineapple plantation and then took our flight back to continental Portugal. I will post another vlog while I'm here and then off to London and Lanzarote! If you enjoyed please remember to like and subscribe!
ABOUT ME:
If this is the first time you see one of my videos I would like to introduce myself and welcome you to my channel! Here you will find backpacking videos on how to travel the world continuously as a digital nomad. I promise a lot of adventures and fun as well as practical tips on how to stay on the road for longer.
My name is Duarte de Zoeten, I am a digital nomad a backpacker and a travel vlogger. I first started solo travelling almost two years ago now. On that first trip backpacking alone around New Zealand, Indonesia and Thailand, I discovered I have an insatiable wanderlust bug. The freedom and adventure had a huge effect on me. Soon, I started to wonder how to travel non-stop. Permanent travel, as they call it, was for me an impossible dream reserved only for the luckiest and most successful travel blogger. People who are location independent and can travel to all countries in the world seemed like a thing from another galaxy.
After living a semi-nomadic lifestyle (no more than 4 months in the same place) in the Netherlands, London, Lisbon and New York I decided to take it to the next level and quit my job to travel. Becoming a digital nomad is not as difficult as it seems, all you need is to be persistent and before you know it you travel permanently around the world. My approach now is to freelance and travel continuously and most of the times travelling alone as it frees me in a way that only a solo traveller will know.
I have decided to start a daily travel blog or travel vlog on how travelling continuously can be a reality for everyone. Travel nonstop, become the backpacker who wants to travel all countries in the world and become nomad to enjoy the ultimate freedom reserved only to those willing to break from the dullness of certainty and a 9 to 5 job.

Guimarães Castle - Ducal Palace aerial view - 4K UltraHD
Located in the district of Braga, the picturesque city of Guimarães is one of the most important historical destinations of the country. D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, chose this ancient Roman city as the capital of the Kingdom of Portugal after its victory in the Battle of São Mamede in 1128. Known as the Cradle of the Nation, Guimarães is a fascinating place to visit, with its proud castle and well preserved medieval quarter. The city was classified as a World Heritage by UNESCO.
Guimarães Castle
The imposing tower of Guimarães castle dominates the entire horizon. This shield-shaped castle was built in the tenth century to protect the city from the invaders and enlarged in the twelfth century, to be used as arsenal and palace. According to legend, the first king of Portugal was born here. Visitors can walk along the castle walls and visit the small Romanesque chapel of St. Michael. In 1910, the castle was classified as a national monument.
Ducal Palace
The Ducal Palace exhibits unusual architectural influences from Northern Europe. Built in the fifteenth century by the first Duke of Bragança, this impressive building was eventually abandoned and fell into ruin, having been restored during Salazar's dictatorship. The museum and the main rooms house beautiful pieces of Renaissance furniture, superb Flemish tapestries and Persian rugs. The Palace is classified as a national monument and is now used as the official residence of the President of the Republic.
