10 Things to do in Kotor, Montenegro Travel Guide
Join us as we visit Kotor, Montenegro in this travel guide covering the top things to do in Kotor in terms of attractions, food and experiences. Having arrived from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina the pattern of heavy rains in the late fall continued and kept us a bit grounded for the first couple of days. After the weather improved we jumped at the chance to wander the Old Town and Gates while hiking up to the Fortresses. For meals we ate a lot of seafood and other forms of local Montenegrin cuisine.

10 Things to do in Kotor, Montenegro Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Котор)
Good morning friends. We have made it to Montenegro. We're in Kotor (Котор) right by the water we're staying in the Old Town. We've been here a few days and it has been raining non-stop just like it was in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Like the first half of the week it just poured but now it is nice. We can't wait to explore this city so join us as we make a little travel guide.
If there’s one thing that had caught our attention upon arriving in Kotor (Cattaro), it was the fortifications that not only encircle the old town but also run all the way up into the mountain, so a hike up to Kotor Fortress was the first stop on our itinerary.
As a tip, we would say the best time to hike up to Kotor Fortress is in the morning because the path is shaded. This isn’t a huge consideration if you’re visiting in winter like we did, but definitely something to keep in mind if you visit in the summer.
The Cathedral of St Tryphon was built in honor of the patron saint and protector of the city, on the very same spot where an older church had already stood long ago. We paid our admission and went in to visit the cathedral’s very own museum.
After walking along part of the city walls, we stopped by the Sea Gate, which is the third entrance into the Old Town. As soon as you walk through here you’re met with a clock tower and a big square that’s encircled by restaurants and lots of little lanes that break away - basically it’s a great place to wander.
And now we want to show you one more restaurant that we enjoyed in Kotor (Cattaro). This one was called Cesarica and they specialized in seafood.
Lastly, if you want to enjoy a little evening stroll, the Port of Kotor is a beautiful place. Not only can you enjoy the city all lit up at night, but if you happen to be there on a day when the cruise ship pulls into town, it’s worth sticking around to watch it manoeuvre its way.
And that concludes our visit to Kotor (Котор). We hope you guys enjoyed following along and we’ll see you in the next video where we visit the neighbouring coastal town of Budva.

MONTENEGRO - The Jewel of the BALKANS - 360 Monte Tour
Welcome to this budget travel series of adventure and kindness, through the Balkan countries. Apo from Around the Good World is traveling the around the Balkans, having only 200€ in his pocket for 2 months!
On this episode, while on my stay in Kotor, I met some great guys from the 360 Monte tour agency. After explaining them that I'm a travel vlogger, they gave me a tour of the amazing country of Montenegro for free! So I joined this tour with our travel guide Jelena and 7 more people. First we went to the oldest restaurant of the whole country, which is famous for its prosciutto. After we visited Njegos mausoleum, which is the highest in the world, inside Lovcen National Park. Rain caught us there, so we stopped for some rakya shots and continued to Skadara lake, that we had our lunch above it and then a great boat ride inside the lake. To complete this amazing day, we drove to Sveti Stefan, to enjoy a majestic sunset. Montenegro is definitely one of the greatest places I've ever been and I'm dying to visit again in the future!
Thank you so much

Travel in Montenegro with me
During my trip through the Balkans in summer 2016, I visited Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, and Macedonia. This is a video from a day that I joined the Great Montenegro Tour through the Old Town Hostel in Kotor. I wasn't staying there, but I did take the tour through that hostel. I learned a lot about Montenegrin food, customs, history, and landscape...and highly recommend this tour.
I also met a new friend on this tour! You'll see him in the video when we are on the masoleum... and we ended up travelling to Albania together after this day. One of the many many reasons that I really love solo travel: MEETING NEW PEOPLE! MAKING NEW FRIENDS!
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy this little slice of life. Yes I started the day with a shot, drank homemade wine at lunch, and then wine on the boat, so listen as my voice gets higher and higher pitched during the video :)
See you in the next video...

Perast + Our Lady of the Rocks | Day Trip from Kotor, Montenegro Travel Food Video Transcript:
Well good morning good morning guys. Good morning guys. It is another beautiful day here in Kotor (Котор) so we decided let's take a day trip. So we're going to be hopping on a bus and visiting Perast which is a small little town also by the water. Um yeah and once we're there we can hop on a boat and go visit a few islands so it should be a nice day.
We did manage to find the bus, though it involved running up the street since we were in the wrong spot, but aside from that, it was a quick 20-minute ride up the coast to Perast.
Located on the Bay of Kotor, Perast (Perasto) is a small town that hit its peak in the 18th century under the Venetian Republic. During this time, it had as many as four active shipyards and the citizens of the town were allowed to trade and sell goods without tax on the Venetian market. This made them very wealthy, and while today Perast has more of a sleepy vibe, you can still see traces of that wealth in the number of palazzos that line the waterfront.
So the boat frequency turned out to be more like 30 minutes - that morning we learned “just 5 minutes” should not be taken literally.
There are two islands off the coast of Perast (Perasto). One is St. George, which holds an old monastery and is not open to visitors, and the other is Our Lady of the Rocks, which we visited. The latter is an artificial island that was created by sinking old ships loaded with rocks. Here you’ll find the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks, which is the main attraction. To be honest, this is a quick visit and you likely won’t need more than 15-20 minutes on the island, but you do get some nice views of the surrounding mountains.
Then, after that little excursion we could only think about one thing: lunch!
After Sam’s drone session, we had enough time to climb up to visit one more church, and then it was pretty much time to call it a day.
Perast (Perasto) is a charming seaside town, but it’s very small and some of the tourist sights weren’t open so there wasn't much to do, but it’s great for a half-day trip if you want to see something aside from Kotor (Котор)!
Alright guys so here we are wrapping up a lovely little day trip from Kotor (Котор). Yeah, it sure was lovely and such an affordable trip. I mean we only paid 1 Euro each way. We're just waiting to catch the bus that comes every half hour. Just a few hours here is enough time really. You can wander around the old town, you can take a boat ride out to the islands, have a nice comfortable lunch. Do maybe a little bit more exploring. And then you're ready to go back. So it makes for a great half day trip I would say. Bye for now.
