PORTUGAL VLOG - MONCHIQUE RANGE ( FÓIA )
If the day is clear it is well worth continuing to drive to the highest point in the Algarve - Foia - which is 902 metres high. The view from here is fantastic - you can see from Cape St. Vincent in the west, to Faro in the east and to the Serra da Arrabida, near Lisbon, to the north! A
Unfortunately the landscape at Foia itself has been rather blighted by an array of military communications installations making some of the area 'out of bounds', but nothing can spoil the view.

Monchique Convento Nossa Senhora do Desterro
MONCHIQUE NOSSA SENHORA DO DESTERRO CONVENT, a franciscan convent built in the 17th century, was seriously damaged during the earthquake of 1755 and after the abolition of religious orders in 1834, its altars and statues were taken to other churches in Monchique and Aljezur. Its location, because it is high, provides a beautiful landscape over the village and the surrounding hills.
The convent is located in MONCHIQUE village, in Serra de Monchique (Algarve), that separates the border region of Alentejo, between the peaks of Fóia and Picota, is a charming town of steep streets and whitewashed houses, is the ideal starting point to visit the water springs and discover the mountains.

Kurzurlaub auf Monte Cruz - ANOTHER DAY IN PORTUGAL# 10

Again this was just our 2nd run down this DH Foia trail as we were visiting this place on a tight schedule. This area of the Picota at Monchique Hill was just as beautiful as all the other breathtaking views can be seen either way that you look, being the main view the one in the direction of the coast which on that day was shrouded in fog.The Foia trail is also physically demanding, having more technical sections than speed sections. The terrain and the vegetation have big similarities with the ones that can be found in Sintra...After the end of the trail in the video, there's still a small downhill section which I didn't filmed because I forgot to turn my GoPro on.That section leads to a downtown trail that winds all the way down between the village's upper slope houses till the centre the village.I filmed it but thought of not editing it with the movie since I turned my camera already passed the begining of the route...
