Monteverde- An OrdinaryDay / Monteverde, Costa Rica
Just another Ordinary Day!
It was a nice sunny evening and the wind was blowing all around the apartment. Suddenly, Brown Jays started to make the awful annoying call they do when a predator is nearby. Alerted by these loyal birds, I took my camera, put my rubber boots on and stepped outside.
Right across the creek the Jays were going wild, flying low and all around a certain area. I approached the place and watched carefully. They kept flying low like trying to tell me exactly where it was. Since there are many predators in the forest I had no idea what I was looking for exactly. Lats time I followed them I found a Collared Forest Falcon way up on the tree tops. However the Jays were right in front of me and few feet above the ground. After some 25 minutes of watching and staying still I found it. Beautiful, long and so extremely well camouflaged on the forest floor.
A Boa Constrictor Imperator, of nearly 10 feet, was playing possum, well, not moving a muscle. It was obvious that it knew I was there and once I found it the Jays left. I spent the next 3 hours figuring out how to film and take pictures of such pretty snake without disturbing it.
I finally went around pretending to leave. After some 20 minutes it started to move and I was so tired of staying still but I had to be extra careful. I did not want the snake to know I was around. I followed it and it was moving towards one of the trails.
I have several minutes of video but I selected some sections and put them together.
You should know that the speed of the video is twice as fast as the original version. The snake moved very slow and so did the unexpected creature that decided to come on the trail right when the snake was about to cross.
Not everyone likes snakes but this is an endangered species that has no venom. They are large and like all reptiles, squids and octopuses, they never stop growing. This particular Boa was about 5 to 6 inches in diameter.
Enjoy!!!!!
