Rocketball Episodes 7 & 8
The 'doc' Rocketball opens with a 12-hour, time-lapse aerial of New Rockford, North Dakota, USA, a town of 1400 inhabitants. As dusk quickly approaches, the camera zooms in on the illumination emanating from a streetlamp, and transitions into a basketball game in progress.
The time is January 8, 2002 and the team is the New Rockford Rockets. The timeline skips ahead 800 days and shows the team playing the 1st round of the 2004 State Basketball tourney. They loose this game in the last second. The timeline goes back 800 days and chronicles their amazing story.
Itâs now March 17, 2005, where episodes 7 & 8 pick up. Before this, they had played in 2 consecutive State Basketball tourneys, in both cases losing to the eventual winner in the 1st round. New Rockford had only been to the state tournament 8 times in the last 70 years, never finishing better than 4th place. Their last appearance, before the start of the 3-year consecutive appearances, in 2003, was 1978, 25 years prior.
Scenario: The Rockets find themselves down by 16 points with less than 7 minutes to go in the 4th Quarter. Methodically, they pick away to get within 2, with the clock stopped at 23.4 seconds and their opponent's premier player, at the free-throw line. He makes both free-throws, increasing the lead to 4 with 23.4 seconds to go. Can the Rockets pull of a win? See for yourself.
