Russia: Monument unveiled in Moscow in honour of celebrated ballerina Maya Plisetskaya
A monument to a famous Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya was unveiled in Moscow on Sunday. The ceremony took place at the square named after Plisetskaya near the Bolshoi Theatre on the day that would have been the ballet dancer's 91st birthday.
SOT, Rodion Shchedrin, Composer and Maya Plisetskaya’s widower (Russian): I would like to dream a bit about this square that eventually may become a place of meetings among young people, where dates would take place and flowers would be brought. [I would like] to ennoble it, to plant lilacs to make it a place of meetings for future generations.
SOT, Vladimir Medinskiy, Russia’s Culture Minister (Russian): “This monument was fully built on people’s money, as they say. And it is an embodiment of people’s endless love to our great artist who fills our hearts.

Tens of thousands of pilgrims began the Velikoretsky Procession of the Cross, in Kirov on Saturday.
Orthodox pilgrims from Vyatka, other regions of the country, as well as from abroad, will walk more than 150 kilometres (93 miles) on foot for six days: through fields, forests and swamps, stopping in several locations.
SOT, Arkadiy, a pilgrim (Russian): Emotions, the feelings that you get here, you cannot get anywhere else, not on any sea or on any island. What you get here is very valuable, and those emotions that get in here last for the whole year.
SOT, Nadezhda Kosolapova, a pilgrim (Russian): Here it is like your are in another world, in another country. It's hard to go back to the ordinary world from here. Every year it pulls us to come back.
SOT, Pilgrim (Russian): [I am here] with a sense of happiness because I am going, I was waiting for this. Larisa [a woman next to her] invited me to go. I am going for the first time.

The Khrapovitsky Estate in Muromtseva
about 1910
The Khrapovitsky Estate is located in the village of Murommtsevo in Vladimir Province. Muromtsevo is an aristocratic manor house designed by architect Peter Boytsov commissioned by Vladimir Khrapovitsky at the end of the 19th century. It is situated on the former homestead that Vladimir Khrapovitsky inherited from his father which included the town of Muromtsevo. Construction began in 1884 and lasted until 1889, with additional wings designed in the continuing Gothic Revival style added in 1906. The entire Khrapovitsky Mansion and Park covered over 40 hectares and includes over 70 buildings. The interiors of the mansion were lavishly decorated and finely furnished.
Following the Revolution of 1917, the contents of the Estate were voluntarily given to the State and it is believed that Vladimir Khrapovitsky left Russia and settled in France. Despite some damage during this time, the estate survived and in 1921 the Forestry Institute was established in the main mansion.
However, in 1977 the Forestry College took up residence in a new building and the mansion and estate were abandoned. In the ensuing years, vandalism, theft and looting have taken their toll on the buildings. The interior of the mansion suffered two devastating fires and is now totally destroyed.
Ironically, since 1995, the Muromtsevo Estate has been protected as a state monument of architecture and cultural heritage site of federal significance…….

Wooden architecture in Irkutks:
Irkutsk has the biggest range of 19th century wooden architecture in Siberia. Out of all Siberian towns, only Irkutsk and Tobolsk have preserved their historic face. Wooden houses can be found in the centre of Irkutsk. If you walk 500m from Lenin's monument down Lenin street towards Krestovozdvizhenskaia church, you will reach the old part of Irkutsk with its characteristic wooden architecture. Timiriazeva, Podgornaia and Lapina streets are some of the streets near the church not destroyed by the 1879 fire.
THE HOUSE OF THE SHASTINS
Engelsa, 21.
The house was built at the end of the 19th century and is better known as the 'Kruzhevnoi dom' ('the lacy house'). In 1999 a complete restoration of the Shastins' homestead was completed – the building now accommodates representatives of the House of Europe.
SUKACHEVA'S HOMESTEAD
On the corner of ulitsa Dekabrskikh Sobitii and ulitsa Sovetskaia.
The homestead was built at the end of the 19th century and consists of several wooden houses. The old home of V.P.Sukachev was converted into an art gallery and his collection is now the core of the main exhibition at the Irkutsk Art Museum. Also on site are the buildings of the girls' school which Sukachev built, funded and maintained, the servants' houses, and the stable. The house where Vladimir Platonovich and his family lived has been replaced by a tank. The homestead is currently undergoing restoration.

The largest collection of guns, ammunition, small arms and cold weapons, means of military communication, military and engineering equipment, battle flags, military uniforms, different awards, rich archives of documents and an extensive library of military history – are currently amassed in the museum.
The origin
The museum was founded by Peter the First who ordered the construction of a special arsenal on the territory of Peter-and-Paul Fortress to store ancient artillery guns.

Moving into the building of the former arsenal situated in Crownwork at Peter-and-Paul’s Fortress, where it can be found to this day.
The Museum acquired the status of storage for weaponry of All-Russian importance and this spiraled into the creation of a scientific library within the museum.
In 1965 the Military Museum of Communications joined the Artillery Museum. It filled the museum’s collection with rarities such as the world’s first electromagnetic telegraph invented by Schilling P.L., the world’s first radio engineered by Popov A.S. and Bodo’s telegraph which transferred the act of unconditional surrender of Germany in 1945.

Kolyma - Birthplace of Our Fear
