Campaigners hope to restore destroyed Stalin monument

A full size monument to Stalin might soon appear in a small town in the middle of Russia.
Local activists are determined to restore it using fragments of the original found in a local pond.
STORYLINE
The watery resting place of Joseph Stalin's shattered statue, in the Russian town of Kusa.
But if one resident has his way, Kusa might once more have the monument to the former Soviet leader standing tall in public like it used to do 70 years ago.
Remains of the statue were found back in August as repair works to a local dam caused the water levels in the city's pond to shrink by three meters.
As a result, three fragments of the statue were found. It's thought they might have been in the water for some 50 years.
The statue's made of concrete, with some metal inside. It was originally painted white on the outside.
Stanislav Stafeev, from Essence of Time, is keen to restore the statue to its former glory. The Essence of Time movement was founded in 2011. Its ideology is a mixture of Russian patriotism and communism.
The only missing part of the statue is Stalin's arm, but Stafeev believes it won't be a problem to restore it, as the rest of the parts are in good shape.
However, he's had to keep the statue under lock and key, worried that the local authorities might claim it.
When all three parts were transferred to a private territory, local authorities began to claim them. In order to get them up, they invited the police department, invited the local newspaper Life of the Region, started putting pressure on me through this newspaper, invited up deputies of the Regional Assembly, who began to express the opinion that I must pass these fragments to the city, that is, the confrontation began, he says.
The local authorities believe the Stalin statue belongs to the state, as Viktor Penyagin, Head of Kusa municipal region explains: The citizen Stafeev took the initiative, I believe that he did it illegally, since everything that stood on the territory of the region, on the territory of the state, and there is a fact that it was put up by the state and belonged to the state before, although there are no documents on this, then later it should be used by the state too.
The statue is typical of the kind that that once stood in almost every Soviet city, during Stalin's reign of terror from 1924 until his death in 1953.
In 1956 Nikita Khruschev denounced the personality cult of Stalin, which led to the mass destruction of such statues.
Rostovtseva explains that most likely the Kusa monument was also destroyed under the cover of the night: In the museum funds there are no documents confirming the dismantling, but presumably in the year between 1956 and 1958, when the monument was located at the shore in the city park, during night time the monument was dismantled and thrown into the city pond, into the ice hole.
The local authorities say they are now happy for the monument to be restored and possibly returned to the city park, where it would have originally stood.
It's a move that some locals aren't happy about.
Yevgeny Zubov, says I am telling you straight away that my view is very negative about it, let it lie about there, and don't you even pull it out (of the pond).
While Lina Mityusheva, disagrees: It's history, and it is not a bad history. Some say, well, older generation say that there was discipline, young generation, of course, think completely differently about it now. I think it's worth it, I am for the restoration.

Stalin the Saint: Russian Communists Canonize Dictator
After Nikolai II we have the full right to offer to the people, to the populace, this icon of a saint, of a true saint who spared not his life. True, as any human being, he did sin, but Alexander Nevsky did not shed just the enemy's blood either. So what? That's the way history goes.

Urban Exploring Kaliningrad Russia [Kult America]
On my visit to Kaliningrad Russia my new friend informed us that we could go climb an abandoned building because he had some connection to the administration. When we showed up it turned out that I was to bribe a security guard, walk past some scary fucking dogs, and rush up to the top because we only had one hour. oh yeah, and we were also locked in by the half drunk corrupt guard.
When we were inside the building, I headed to an area of the building guard told us not to enter to get a shot, Artur and the guide started screaming at me to return, but I just told them to chill out so I could get the shot. Once I returned they informed me that the front of the building was wired with motion detectors and that the cops would now be alerted because of my recklessness. Needless to say, we got out of there fast. I’m not sure if you could call this an episode of Kult America as much as you could call it a weird situation but I did learn something about the craziness of being in Russia.

Russia Close-Up: between Europe and Asia
South UralsRussia's Chelyabinsk Region, located on the border between Europe and Asia in the southern Ural Mountains, still has a long way to go to become a mainstream holiday spot. But thought it lacks a developed tourist infrastructure, the region offers plenty of maiden forests and wilderness of the real Russia.
CRAZIEST Things That Only Happen in Russia
Russia is a very unique country and if you come here, you might be a little surprised by what you come across. From secret cities to the police, here are 14 craziest things that only happen in Russia
Subscribe to American Eye
7. The Bolshoi Theatre
This theatre located in the heart of Moscow has been the most prestigious theatre in all of Russia. With the other Bolshoi Theatre being demolished in St. Petersburg, the only place you can really see opera and ballet with such high profile spectators, is in Moscow. Only the highest profile singers, actors and dancers will ever have a chance to work here and it’s become somewhat of a symbol of prestige and aristocracy among Russians. There was a bit of controversy around this place when it cost taxpayers the equivalent of 1.1 Billion dollars to renovate. This might also be the only place where you’ll find the NSA whistleblower edward snowden out in the public and he was captured in this photo.
6. Lake Karachay
Located in Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast Region, near the border of Kazakhstan, it’s been home to quite a few accidents, releasing a deadly cocktail of hazardous radioactive elements into the water. The lake has also been known to dry up and spread radioactive dust in the wind! Lake Karachay has been a dumping ground for one of the Soviet Union’s biggest Nuclear weapons facilities and it wouldn’t be a good idea to even get close. It’s currently listed as a near surface and dry nuclear waste storage facility and it appears from google maps at least that the pollution has caused the entire lake to dry up.
5. King Friedrich Wilhelm I Fort
Located in Russia, this abandoned fortress was the largest in the are for quite some time during the 17th century. It’s found in the exclave of Russia known as Kaliningrad located on the border with poland. Eventually, it was left abandoned and the forest around it took over the area. People are allowed to visit it but check it out at your own risk and bring your visas!
4. Booty Slapping Competition
Have you been slapping booty for quite= some time now and you think you can make a living from it?! There’s also face slapping competitions in Russia where contestants slap each other in the face as hard as they can until they quit. Basically that’s what they’re doing here but women like anastasia but what to cause any damage to their beautiful face.Booty slapping is they way to go. Vasily Kamotsky won the mens face slapping competitions and took home 30,000 rubles. When translated into english about 466 dollars.
3. Grand Kremlin Palace
Russia sneaks its way on our list again because the grand kremlin office in Moscow is pretty awesome. Designed for the Czars of Russia in the 1800’s, it displays a massive amount of elegance and culture. With crystal chandeliers, and polished floors you almost have to wonder what the amber room would have looked like. The highly saught after land it was built on involved the demolition of other great palaces that were previously there. We’re sure putin will have a difficult choice where to stay at sometimes.
2. Gulag Camps
Could Russian gulag camps still be out there? Maybe not all of them are gone since the soviet union times possibly? Could Vladmir Putin still be sending his political enemies to forced labor camps in Siberia. It certainly seems possible with many of his opponents mysteriously vanishing. After an interview with a rogue KGB agent named Yuri Bezmenov who defected to canada, he stated gulag camps in Siberia were still being utilized in the 1980’s. It makes you wonder if they could still be out there, violating human rights. He also goes on to mention how Russian propaganda was very successful at demoralizing American society and makes accurate predictions about what will happen in our country and how marxism is slowly sneaking its way into our government. We suggest you listen to his interview if you got the time

**Eerie Predictions Coming True**
Alien Skull Found
A skeleton that has been discovered on a site called Russia’s Stonehenge has ignited fresh ideas regarding alien visitor to earth.
The stretched out skull shaped a little like an egg on an otherwise humanoid form has triggered garnered excitement from UFO watchers who maintain it is confirmation that extra terrestrials had one time frequented Earth.
Archaeologists, however, have maintained that the skeleton that belonged to a female from a 4, 000 BC settlement, had an absolutely reasonable reason for the skull that looks extended.
They say that the tribe that lived in Arkaim close to the present-day city of Chelyabinsk in central Russia used to tie the head to make it grow out of shape.
Watchers of UFO have argued against the allegation that if this was the scenario, it was basically a way of imitating the skulls of the alien visitors, providing evidence of visitation.
Researcher Maria Makurova refused to remark on speculation it was linked to alien visitors stating that presently they were still working on theories as to the reasons the tribe had the custom but had nothing set yet as a reason.
It is yet another of the mysteries of the breathtaking site of Arkaim referred to as Russia’s Stonehenge that is thought was made around roughly 4, 000 BC along the similar lines as the British monument.
Researchers who exposed the images of the recent stunning find of the alien-looking humanoid state the body was perhaps from the 2nd or 3rd century after Christ.
The site was found in 1987 and seemed to be a significant site to study Bronze Age, and since that time has revealed breathtaking discoveries.
