Spring Break 2019 | Monument Valley & Navajo National Monument | Day Four
America Trip vlog #3: Visiting Navajo Country! - Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley and More!
So in this vlog we drove from the hail storms in Bryce Canyon NP to Lake Powell situated in Navajo Country. We took some dips there and adjusted to the heat again. After that we went to the all famous Antilope Canyon which was very touristy. We also went to the Horse Shoe Bend, which also had a lot of Chinese tourists. There I talked about my Canon 10-18mm wide angle lens. The day after we drove by Glen Canyon Dam which had a little information center where I saw that the Chinese dam in the Yangtze river is actually a lot bigger. Chinese win again! Then we went on the look for a cosmetic shop because my pimple on my nose was stinging and bleeding, but without succes (my mom bought some kind of lotion later which helped alot) so we went sun glass shopping because I lost mine. After that we drove to Monument Valley where we had a jeep tour with a private tour guide called Paul. I end that day and the video with saying how many stars there were out there, it was quite amazing, because in Holland there is so much light pollution we only get to see like 6 stars per night (or they could be planes aswell). All in all another epic vlog with beautiful American sites and landmarks.
Thanks so much for watching!

How Monument Valley became a symbol of the West
That stereotypical Western backdrop isn’t typical of the West.
Become a Video Lab member!
Towering red rock formations and big blue sky make up the classic backdrop of the American West. But the rocks we see in so many movies aren't typical of the area at all. In fact, they are unique to one place: Monument Valley.
Monument Valley is on the Utah-Arizona border inside the Navajo Nation Reservation, and until the 20th century, it had barely been visited by non-indigenous people. But when John Ford made Stagecoach — the 1939 blockbuster that mainstreamed Western movies and the actor John Wayne — that all changed. More filmmakers followed suit and used the location as their movie backdrop, creating a deep association between Monument Valley’s iconic landscape and the mythic American West.
To read more on the myth of the American West and Western movies, check out Richard Slotkin’s “Gunfighter Nation,” a thorough history of the genre:

Monument Valley Drive Through: Mexican Hat UT- Kayenta AZ
Drive through monument valley in 5 minutes.
Arizona Highway 160 towards Kayenta and Monument Valley
De Kayenta à Monument Valley
Swingin Steaks, Mexican Hat Lodge, Mexican Hat, San Juan County, Utah, United States, North America
Mexican Hat Lodge was an Old Indian Bar and Dance Hall. In operation between 1950 to 1990. In the early 90's Bobby and Vonnie Mueller and Kids remodeled the up stairs into 10 Beautiful rooms each one different. The Mueller's (Bobby, Jay Dee and Joy ) came to Mexican Hat in July of 1979 as a traveling Band working the southwest nite clubs and liked the area so much that with hard work and sweat, they managed to buy the old TOP O HAT bar (Water Hole #1) and convert it to a Bed and Breakfast looking place. However, we don't do breakfast as there are two other places which provide breakfast. Our specialty is Rib eye Steak Dinner. 18oz. cooked on an open fire (cedar wood) and served in an Old Cowboy style. The Mueller's still play music on special occasions ( Any Time Some One Wants Us To) if we are not busy cooking or waiting tables. We have been working on a gooood CD for years; maybe we will get it this time. If your a Amateur Radio Operator Please consider DX operation from our location. The owner is Bob. Mexican Hat, Utah is located between Mesa Verde and Grand Canyon 22 miles north of Monument Valley and in the Utah Grand Circle. There is horse back riding, river rafting, hiking and picture taking. Visit the capital of John Wayne country using THE HAT as the HUB of the four corners area and your stay HERE. Mexican Hat is a census-designated place (CDP) on the San Juan River in south-central San Juan County, Utah, United States. The population was 31 at the 2010 census, a sharp decline from the previous two censuses. The name Mexican Hat comes from a curiously sombrero-shaped, 60-foot (18 m) wide by 12-foot (3.7 m) thick, rock outcropping on the northeast edge of town. The Hat' has two rock climbing routes ascending it. It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. The CDP is on U.S. Route 163 just 3 miles (5 km) south of the junction with State Route 261, and is just outside the northern boundary of both the Navajo Nation and Monument Valley. Goosenecks State Park is located just 9 miles (14 km) west-northwest, Alhambra Rock is 6 miles (10 km) west-southwest, and the Valley of the Gods is to the north on U.S. 163.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.5 square miles (22 km2), of which 8.2 square miles (21 km2) is land (96%) and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) is water (4%). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Mexican Hat has a semi-arid climate, abbreviated BSk on climate maps. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.82% of the population. There were 29 households out of which 48.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 27.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
