Old Friends: Kazakhstan’s Nazarbayev Reminisces About Relationship With Putin Over the Years

Last Saturday, Kazakhstan festively celebrated the state holiday the Day of the First President of the Republic. It was established in 2012 in honor of Nursultan Nazarbayev the continuous leader of the Kazakh people for almost 30 years. On December 1st, 1991, the Republic held its first presidential elections which were won by Nazarbayev.

In its post-Soviet history, the Kazakh state has reinvented itself as a modern and prosperous Eurasian nation. Geographically, more than 80% of the territory is made up of steppe and desserts.
Kazakhstan is 11 times bigger than Romania and has a population of 18 million inhabitants consisted mostly of Kazakhs living with 138 nationalities, including Romanian. It is the ninth largest country in the world and possesses, along with its oil or gas deposits, minerals which cover nearly the entire Mendeleev's periodic table.
They are often confused with the Cossacks, although they have no blood ties with them, they are Kazakhs and tell their story in the documentary Kazakhstan, the country of the great steppe.
Kazakhstan: Russia's Lavrentiev summarises first day of Astana-based Syria talks
The head of the Russian delegation, Alexander Lavrentiev, delivered a statement at the end of the first working day of the fifth round of Syria Peace talks in Astana on Tuesday.
Russia's chief negotiator stated that while the borders of the second and the third de-escalation zones have almost been defined it is too soon to talk about actual implementing of safe zone in the war-torn country. Though he noted positive attitude of all parties involved to reach a common decision on the Syrian peace settlement.
SOT, Alexander Lavrentiev, Russia's Special Envoy on Syria (Russian): There are still certain difficulties in defying the contact lines, meaning the borders of the de-escalation zones [still remain unclear]. There is only one criteria for all de-escalation zones that is they should separate the combatants. However, one thing is to draw them on the map and the other - implement in reality that has proved to be difficult. And this process might take a long time. However, on a practical level the borders of the second and the third de-escalation zones have almost been defined.
SOT, Alexander Lavrentiev, Russia's Special Envoy on Syria (Russian): I also would like to point out the positive attitude towards work [from all parties involved] and the ambition to find a compromise solution [to Syria's conflict]. However, as I have already pointed out this work continues further including the work of expert working groups.
SOT, Alexander Lavrentiev, Russia's Special Envoy on Syria (Russian): It's too early to say when the de-escalation zones will be implemented this will depend on whether we make a consensual decision tomorrow. Therefore, tomorrow we will announce our decision at the plenary session.

Russia: Putin and Patriarch Kirill bless new monument to Vladimir the Great
President Vladimir Putin unveiled a new monument to the Russia's first Christian leader Vladimir the Great in Moscow, on Friday. The opening ceremony took place just in few meters from Kremlin walls and coincided with the Russian National Unity Day.

I greet and congratulate you on the opening of the monument to Saint Equal-to-apostles Prince Vladimir. This is a big and significant event for Moscow, for the whole country and for all Russian compatriots. It is symbolic that it is being held on the National Unity Day here in the centre of the capital near the walls of the ancient Kremlin, in the heart of Russia.
Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): The strong moral support, cohesion and unity helped our ancestors to overcome difficulties, to live and to win for the glory of the Fatherland, to strengthen its power and greatness from generation to generation. And today it is our duty to stand together against modern threats and challenges basing on spiritual precepts, invaluable traditions of unity and concord and to move forward ensuring the continuity of our thousand-year history.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia (Russian): The monument to Prince Vladimir is a symbol of the unity of all the peoples to whom he is farther. This is the peoples of the historical Rus’ currently living within the borders of many states. The monument to the farther may be everywhere where his children live. There is no contradiction in it. But it is bad if children forget that they have the only father.

Dry deck water fountain design and construction in Astana, Kazakhstan
2018 is the 20th anniversary of the anniversary of Astana city.AUS RAINBOW would like to offer our congratulations once again for creating a large square music fountain in Astana.This project is located in a newly built square called Botanikalyq Saiabaq. The whole fountain project uses multiple running fountain, waterfall, cold fog and other designs. The diameter of the outer ring is up to 80 meters.The inner circle is about 8 meters in diameter of the artificial pool, in the middle stands a 7 meters high golden bottle, it seems to be imposed magic, the water is more and more clouds, seven small ice tower like night elves in the cloud wreathed in joy dancing.
The music fountain in Botanikalyq Saiabaq square, a new addition to the 20th anniversary celebration, is undoubtedly a good place for local people to relax and have fun at night.

Just to clarify; this is NOT the main singing fountain show that takes place in Astana at 9 p.m. every evening in the summer. This fountain just happened to be very close to where we were airbnb'ing. In fact, our place is in the block of flats that you see behind the fountain, in the top left hand corner, 11th floor. Taken on Sunday 31/July/2016.
World War II heroes honored in Ulaanbaatar on the occasion of Victory Day
Today, May 9, ceremonies to pay respect to the heroes of the war were held at the Monument of Soviet Soldiers on the Zaisan Hill and the Monument of Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K.Zhukov in Ulaanbaatar The events were dedicated to the 72th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Representatives from the Ministry of Defense, General Staff of the Armed Forces and Embassies of Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan in Mongolia and Mongolian and Russian citizens took part in the ceremonies.
Students of the Russian High School named after Yuri Gagarin performed a concert and a mini-photo exhibition about Russian soldiers, who had fought in the war, was displayed at the Zhukov Square. Moreover, Russian people present at the ceremonies were holding portraits of their parents, grandparents, relatives who participated in the war.
Mongolia shares the victory in the Great Patriotic War, backing the former Soviet Union by supplying horses and other necessary items and marks the victory every year.

The Grand Duke’s death shook Russian society back then and people from all backgrounds saw it as a tragedy. The memorial cross raised at the site of this brutal massacre was a symbol of sorrow and regret.
