This episode, focusing on Juan Santamaria Day, is a bit different as I wanted to experiment for my last in-class project. Instead of a general narrative piece, I modeled this one after classic silent war reels. I hope you enjoy!

The Poas Volcano, (Spanish: Volcan Poas), is an active stratovolcano in central Costa Rica. It has erupted 39 times since 1828.
Crater lakes
There are two crater lakes near the summit. The northern lake is known as the Laguna Caliente (hot lagoon) and is located at a height of 2,300 m in a crater approximately 1.7 km wide and 290/300 m deep.
It is one of the world's most acidic lakes.
The acidity varies after rain and changes in volcanic activity, sometimes reaching a pH of almost 0; consequently, it supports little or no aquatic life. The bottom of this lake is covered with a layer of liquid sulphur.
Acid gases create acid rain and acid fog, causing damage to surrounding ecosystems and often irritation of eyes and lungs.
Lake Botos, the southern lake, fills an inactive crater, which last erupted in 7500 BC.
It is cold and clear, and is surrounded by a cloud forest located within the Poas Volcano National Park.
Eruptive history
Poas was near the epicenter of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake in January 2009 that killed at least forty people and affected Fraijanes, Vara Blanca, Cinchona (the most affected area), the capital San Jose, and the Central Valley region of Costa Rica.
There was also eruptive activity in 2009 involving minor phreatic eruptions and landslides within the northern active crater.
Poas eruptions often include geyser-like ejections of crater-lake water.
We will take the Pan-American Highway towards the city of Alajuela.

Considered to be Costa Rica s most visited destination, with a constant flow of tourists passing through, the Poas Volcano National Park belongs to the central volcanic mountain range.
It is located about 30 kilometers (18.5 miles approximately) away from the city of Alajuela, in the province of the same name, and on January the 25th of 1971 it was declared as a national park.
Encompassing an area of 5.600 hectares (almost 14 acres), this active volcano is known for its vapor emissions, small scale continuous explosions similar to geyser activity, and lava eruptions.
The volcano has an area with two craters. The main one is 1.5 kilometers (1 mile approximately) in diameter and around 300 meters (980 feet approximately) deep, with a lagoon that is about 350 meters (1,148 feet approximately) in diameter, and with a sort of cone shape elevation rising over it at about 40 meters (130 feet approximately) that has quite active fumaroles (a volcano opening from which vapor and steam rises).

American Airlines Boeing 757 San Jose to Philadelphia via Miami Full Flight Report
American Airlines Boeing 757 San Jose, Costa Rica to Philadelphia via Miami Full Flight Report. The flight occurred on August 8, 2014. The flight departed and arrived 1 hour late due to a late arrival of the aircraft and storms in San Jose. The flight from Miami to Philadelphia was 1 hour late as well. There was beverage service and buy on board meals available. Overall it was a pleasant flight with American Airlines. I would fly with American Airlines again to Central or South America. However, American Airlines needs to have a more on time flight schedule. The total flight time was 2 hours and 29 minutes and 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Tirana VR - The castle of Tirana 360° VR VIDEO
The castle of Tirana is a field fortification with rectangular plan. The constructions preserved in some of the towers and surrounding walls indicate that the fortress could have been built in the early Byzantine period, IV-VI century, as part of the fortifications built in New Epirus by the Emperor Justinian.
The surrounding walls that can be seen today are new constructions built by Ahmet Pasha Bargjini in the last decade of the eighteenth century. Inside the castle there are several traditional houses in which used to live the then rulers of Tirana, such as the Bargjini family or the Toptani family, which from 1798 ruled the castle and the city of Tirana.
Today, in addition to the walls, visitors have the opportunity to watch the new castle trails discovered during the reconstruction of the Murad Toptani street.
