Journey from Magadan to Europe (English subs)

The statue of Lenin - From Moscow to Murmansk
St. Petersburg is the city where the Russian Revolution broke out in 1917. Lenin arrived from Switzerland to give his famous speech that brought the revolution. Jelle finds Lenin's statue back in an industrial area just outside St. Petersburg, ready to be restored.
In the first series: From Moscow to Magadan, Jelle Brandt Corstius traveled from West to East, focusing on the endless Russian countryside and the villages. In this second series: From Moscow to Murmansk, he travels from North to South along the largest river of Russia: the Volga River. A trip along the relatively unknown cities like Murmansk, Volgograd, Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, but also to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Through topics like women in Russia, new censorship, the environmental problem from Russian perspective and the ideological vacuum, a relatively unknown side of Russia is once again exposed.
Presented by: Jelle Brandt Corstius
Final editor: Gert-Jan Hox
Directed by: Hans Pool

Beslan. Remember (english & español subs)
- когда-то государство допустило ошибки, которые привели к беде;

Waste management: Moscow faces uphill battle

On September 10, the citizens of Moscow will go to the polls to elect local councillors. One of the key campaign issues is the environment - and more specifically, waste management. In Russia, most rubbish ends up on huge waste dumps inherited from the Soviet era, often located near populated areas, and the Moscow region is no exception. Our correspondents report on what the authorities are doing about the problem.

69. The Soviet Union Academy of Agriculture
In 1928, Academician N.Vavilov visited Alma-Ata, and he concluded that the relic Seven Rivers apple trees are the ancestors of many cultivars of apple trees on our planet. N.Vavilov, one of the founders of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, believed that in Kazakhstan it is necessary to open a branch of the All-Union Academy of Agriculture. Moreover, one of the priorities of development of Kazakhstan was the agricultural sector during the Soviet period.
For that purpose the All-Union Academy of Agriculture was formed.
The rectangular building, built in 1951 by architects I. Suhorukov and A. Tamm, is located on Tole bi street, 61.
The construction of the housing is adjacent to the People's Commissariat of Finance (Ministry of Finance), and in unison with its architecture, the main façade has a vertical division of pilasters.
This method has become a tradition in architecture of Almaty administrative buildings, in order to provide monumentality.
The three-storied building extends beyond the red line on the facade of building on Tole Bi Street. A shallow portico with four pylons emphasizes the entrance.
Décor of partition between windows determines the rhythm of vertical division of the walls, in contrast to the horizontal one - the crowning cornice and weather strip rods. The internal layout of rooms is a corridor type.

SUMMARY
=======
Abkhazia ( (listen); Abkhazian: Аҧсны́, translit. Apsny [apʰsˈnɨ]; Georgian: აფხაზეთი Apxazeti [ɑpʰxɑzɛtʰi]; Russian: Абха́зия, tr. Abházija, IPA: [ɐˈpxazʲɪjə]), officially the Republic of Abkhazia, is a de facto and partially recognized republic on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, south of the Greater Caucasus mountains, in northwestern Georgia. It covers 8,660 square kilometres (3,340 sq mi) and has a population of around 240,000. Its capital is Sukhumi. The separatist Abkhazian polity, formally the Republic of Abkhazia, is recognised as a state by Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria. While Georgia lacks control over Abkhazia, the Georgian government and most United Nations member states legally consider Abkhazia part of Georgia, whose constitution designates the area as the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.
The status of Abkhazia is a central issue of the Georgian–Abkhazian conflict and Georgia–Russia relations. The region had autonomy within Soviet Georgia at the time when the Soviet Union began to disintegrate in the late 1980s. Simmering ethnic tensions between the Abkhaz—the region's titular ethnicity—and Georgians—the largest single ethnic group at that time—culminated in the 1992–1993 War in Abkhazia which resulted in Georgia's loss of control of most of Abkhazia, the de facto independence of Abkhazia, and the ethnic cleansing of Georgians from Abkhazia. Despite the 1994 ceasefire agreement and years of negotiations, the dispute remains unresolved. The long-term presence of a United Nations Observer Mission and a Russian-led Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) peacekeeping force failed to prevent the flare-up of violence on several occasions. In August 2008, Abkhaz forces fought against Georgian forces during the Russo-Georgian War, which led to the formal recognition of Abkhazia by Russia, the annulment of the 1994 ceasefire agreement, and the termination of the UN mission. On 28 August 2008, the Parliament of Georgia declared Abkhazia a Russian-occupied territory, a stance supported by the vast majority of the international community.
