to Emperor Alexander III in Moscow
1912
Music:
God Save the Tsar sung here by The Choir of the
St. Peter and St. Paul in Minsk
....The solemn opening of the monument in the presence of representatives of all classes and members of the imperial family was held on May 30, 1912. At 8 o'clock in the morning five cannon shots sounded from the Taynitskaya tower. At 10 o'clock at the entrance to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour began a procession led by the Moscow Metropolitan Vladimir, Emperor Nicholas II, his mother Maria Fedorovna and wife Alexandra Fedorovna. After 360 celebration canon shots and the singing of the Preobrazhensky march, a veil was removed from the sculpture. Metropolitan Vladimir sprinkled the monument with holy water and proclaimed many years to the Russian army and loyal subject. 86 wreaths were laid on the monument, including wreaths from 80 Russian and foreign deputations. After inspecting the monument by members of the imperial family, the deputy chairman of the committee on the construction of the monument was informed by the chamberlain Alexander Bulygin to read the text of the act on the transfer of the monument to the Moscow city government. In the evening, the city and the sculpture were illuminated. At the sculpture there were laced a guard of honour made up of the war veterans......
....Made in the style of monumental realism, a bronze statue stood on a stepped red granite pedestal facing the Moscow River. The guardian portrayed the king sitting on a throne in a mantle with an imperial crown on his head. In the hands of Alexander III lay the scepter and orb.
The inscription on the pedestal read: “To the pious, Autocratic Great Sovereign, our emperor Alexander Alexandrovich of All Russia. 1881-1894. In its corners stood bronze double-headed eagles with outstretched wings by sculptor Artemy Auber. The monument was located low granite balustrade, designed by Alexander Pomerantsev, down the stairs from the monument to the river.
Contemporaries criticised the monument for excessive monumentality.
In the 1917 edition of the Moscow Guidebook, the monument was described as “too huge and heavy, featuring an extraordinary amount and richness of material spent on its construction”.
The monument was destroyed in 1918.....

ALEXANDER III
Alexander III suspended all of his father, Alexander II’s, reforms. His reign was all about repression, censorship and Russification, but also about peace and stability. Most importantly, Alexander III’s reign was a time of great industrial development.
BACKGROUND
Immediately after his ascension to the throne, as a direct reaction to the murder of his father, Alexander III put a halt to his father’s reforms. He disbanded the legislative council that had been preparing the constitution, and became vengeful against both radical and moderate liberalists.
REPRESSIONS
Large-scale repressions were carried out by the secret police, called the Okhrana, and their network of spies. Pogroms against Jews and other ethnic minorities, deportations, and the closing of newspapers and universities occurred.
Alexander III was a Russian nationalist. He launched several campaigns of Russification in the non-Russian border districts.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
Alexander III’s reign was also a period of international peace and stability. No major war took place under his rule. The economy was improving, although still slowly, in the 1890s. One of the notable figures leading Russia into industrial progress was Alexander III’s Minister of Finance, Sergey Witte, who negotiated foreign capital, and favorable loans from France.
In the next decade, the industrial output was already soaring. One of the key projects, in that early period, was the construction of the world’s longest railway, the Trans-Siberian Railway, that started in 1891.
DEATH
Despite many assassination attempts, Alexander III died of natural causes, leaving his eldest son, Nicholas, to reign as the last emperor of Russia.

Ploschad Pobedy in Saint Petersburg.
Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad.
Victory Square (Russian: Пло́щадь Побе́ды, Ploschad Pobedy) in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is named after the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War. It is located in the very end of Moskovsky Prospekt near Pulkovo Airport – not in the central part of the city, despite this name being common in the former Soviet cities as a central city square. The nearest metro station is Moskovskaya.
Victory Square is home to the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad, which commemorates the victims and survivors of the Siege of Leningrad. The monument, designed by Sergey Speranskiy and Valentin Kamenskiy, and sculpted by Mikhail Anikushin, was erected in 1975 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the end of the war. It consists of a 48–metre high obelisk, a large circular enclosure, and a subterranean Memorial Hall.
Blacksmith made a horseshoe, Pskov Russia
Here is how you make an amusing photo collage ;D
12.5.2017 Blacksmith made a horseshoe, Children's Park in Pskov Russia
By the legend, Peter the Great called the people of Pskov scobar (holdfast maker) when he was not able to straighten out the holdfast forged by local blacksmiths while Peter the Great used to easily unbend horseshoes. On his order, Pskov masters started to produce holdfasts for Russian fleet under construction.

Peacemaker
An excerpt about Tsar Alexander III (1845 -- 1894) from the George
Stuart's monolog Romanov Dynasty.
A total reactionary, Alexander III reversed all previous reforms.
Alexander III was a throwback to the total repression and reactionary
policies of his grandfather Nicholas I. Russia became a police state.
Progressives were imprisoned and Jews were subject to pogroms, which
brought about the birth of Zionism. However, Russia was more or less at
peace with her neighbors because Alexander vowed there would be no wars
during his reign.
