Norway: Monument to Yuri Gagarin unveiled in Bergen
Chairwoman of the regional coordination council of Russian compatriots in northern Europe, Tatiana Dahle, explained on Thursday why the university of Bergen is now hosting a memorial for the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, after the bust was unveiled on Wednesday.
SOT, Tatiana Dahle, chair of the Regional Council of Russian compatriots in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea (Russian): After his famous flight to space. Gagarin visited many countries including Norway for eight days. During his eventful time in Norway he visited three cities including Bergen, Oslo and Trondheim. He was invited to Bergen by the head of the Institute of Geophysics, the first woman who headed this respectable institution, they (Norwegians) are very proud about it. He visited the university in 1964. The Norwegians remember Gagarin. To be honest, they know about this name and remember it well, but not more than that. They liked the idea of honouring the first space flight too and therefore the memorial was accepted as a present.
SOT, Tatiana Dahle, chair of the Regional Council of Russian compatriots in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea (Russian): There were no political insinuations. To the contrary, they elevated this question above what is happening right now (political situation) and showed that culture and science is not affected by politics.

Taking a dip at Sjøfartsmonumentet in Bergen, Norway
Badeutfordringen (The bath challenge) startet in The Faroe Islands as a Facebook phenomenon where people post a video of themselves taking a swim in the ocean or the sea, and challenge a couple of their friends to do the same.
If someone fail to complete the challenge within 24 hours they have to do something for the one who challenged them (often defined in the video).
I wanted to get a little creative so I went for a swim at Sjøfartsmonumentet, a monument in the center of Bergen.
In this video I challenge some friends and family.

At Admiralty House, he was received by the Prime Minister, and the Premier's reported as saying that the Major is a delightful fellow. London did everything to honour the Russian space-man, and the greatest honour of all was his invitation to lunch with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Reel 3. (Reel 2 is currently missing)
Following material is all also found on Reel 2 of With Gagarin to the Stars.
C/U of two young boys looking at a large model spaceship. A model of Sputnik One is shown, then an animation showing how it would have moved through space. An animation of Sputnik Two is shown - image of the dog Laika is superimposed over the image of the spaceship - cute! An animated sequence shows Sputnik Three moving through space.
01:10:34 - Travelling shot of a large room of rocket designers working at their desks. Montage of industrial footage - foundry, factories, machines capable of incredibly fast calculations (computers) are shown. A woman operates a large keyboard which has a board with flashing buttons above it. People work in front of control panels. Various shots of rocket science equipment. Shielding from radiation - the Soviet Proton Cyclotron (?) is described and illustrated by an animated sequence. Science and engineering were working together for a new attack on space.
01:12:30 - Animated sequence showing multi-stage rockets. Various nice animation sequences showing space craft and planets. The map of the far side of the moon is discussed - an image of the moon has Russian writing superimposed showing various named aspects.
01:12:52 - Still photograph of Gagarin, various letters are placed on top of the photograph to illustrate the fact that Gagarin was asking to be trained as a space pilot. Selection processes are discussed with images of men undergoing health tests including being suspended upside down. C/U of a board covered with numbers. Man undergoes a concentration test - confusing numbers are played through a loud speaker whilst he has to solve mathematical problems quickly. Torture! C/U of the man's ear. Good montage sequence showing how the astronaut has to keep calm and ignore the mind games.
01:14:12 - M/S of man strapped to a machine which swings him backwards and forwards for hours. Moving camera shows the disorientation which must result. Man on the swing seems to be in some kind of trance - he looks terrible and narrator states: No, this man won't make a space pilot. C/U of his face, he wears a special helmet which records his reactions - he looks ill. His eyes are closed and his face is sweaty.
01:14:53 - Another man undergoes a vibration test. Man sits in a chair with lots of wires attached to him. Man in a white coat and hat watches his reactions to being subjected to relentless shaking. Another test is shown - man in a decompression chamber (?). Slightly sinister music accompanies this sequence of the man inside the special chamber whilst he is subjected to barometric (?) changes. C/U of woman monitoring the tests. C/U of changes being recorded on graph paper.
01:16:17 - C/U of the scientists. Rhythm of the heartbeat is illustrated. C/U of evil looking scientist looking through the window at his victim. C/U of man wearing large mask. Man being tested looks woozy, image of scientist becomes blurred. Man being tested closes his eyes and puts his head backwards. Quick says the scientist and the door is quickly opened. C/U of dials with pointers moving rapidly. The man is helped out of the chamber - he staggers.
01:17:28 - C/U of the lid of a film can being opened. (Russian words visible on the label of the can). We are shown an actual film record of the short listed candidates. Film of the movie equipment being handed to the trainees which include Yuri Gagarin. M/S of two of the astronauts standing together, one looks through the cine camera. Sequence showing training of these men. Good sequence of them jogging through a wood wearing very small swimming trunks or underpants (!) They jump over trees, they play volleyball, swim, try to jump up and head a ball suspended in the air, dive into a swimming pool. C/U of Yuri climbing out of the pool. Montage sequence showing training exercises for the cosmonauts. Flying fox type jumps are undertaken, parachute jumps. End reel 3.
Note: only reels 1 and 3 exist for what was probably at least a 4 reel film. See With Gagarin to the Stars. Russian reel 3 is same as first half of British reel 2.

Amazing Drone Footage of Former Gulag Prison in Arctic Circle
Amazing drone footage of Mount Schmidt, Norilsk, the site of a former Gulag prison camp during the Soviet era.
As the snow melts in the industrial Arctic Circle city every June, the streams carving new paths down the mountainside, throwing up human bones.
Known as Golgotha to locals, the number of deaths at the camp still remains a mystery.
The site is one of the most remote in the world. After nickel deposits were discovered in the 1920s, the area was turned into a forced labour camp under Stalin in the 1930s.
The camp was closed in 1956 but its presence lingers, preserving the memory of the camp's victims. It is a monument to the victims of political repression, said the filmer.
Today, Norilsk is home to Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel) – the metals and mining operation overseen by its biggest shareholder, tycoon Vladimir Potanin, which accommodates around 60,000 employees.
However, conditions still remain harsh. For three months a year, the sun doesn't rise, and it remains covered by snow for more than 250 days a year.

Ancient Civilizations Modern Discoveries - Brien Foerster (The justBernard Show)
Dive into a secret world not often spoken of with alternative history author and adventurer Brien Foerster as he uncovers evidence that advanced technology and human history are at least 10,000 years old. Having recently explored Egypt, Peru, Bolivia and Baalbek in Lebanon, Brien joins Bernard to share his findings and theories on some the most amazing structures built by man.
He is the author of 8 books with multiple appearances on Ancient Aliens.
Brien was born in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A. but grew up on the west coast of Canada. At age 11, he became fascinated with the Native art of the Haida native people, and began carving totem poles, and other related art forms, learning from Native teachers. After completing an Honours Bachelor Of Science degree, Brien decided to take up carving and sculpture full time, at the age of 25.
In 1995 he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the building of the 62 foot double hull sailing canoe ( ancestor of the modern day catamaran ) Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani ( Sacred Lizard That Pierces The Heavens ) and the restoration of the famous Mo’olele sailing canoe. This project lasted 2 years.
There, having learned how to make Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddles from master carver Keola Sequiera, he started an online outrigger paddle business, which flourished internationally.
Peru became his next major area of interest. The study of the Inca culture led to his writing a book, A Brief History Of The Incas which is available on this site, and is now the assistant director of the Paracas History Museum in Paracas, south of Lima. He is also assisting the municipality of Paracas to improve the number of foreign tourists that visit, as well as is fundamental in expanding tourism in general, especially as regards showing all visitors the 10,000 years of human occupation of this area, through tours of major and minor archaeological sites.
Other projects, which will result in published books, include one about the ancient history of Hawaii, the mysterious stone monuments of Peru that predate the Inca, and the search for the lost continent of Mu. This will require combining all that he has learned so far, with trips to New Zealand (Aotearoa), Hawaii, and Easter island (Rapanui.)

84th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Gagarin 84 лет со дня рождения Юрия Гагарина
Yuri Gagarin was born on 9 March 1934 in the village of Klushino, near Gzhatsk, which was renamed Gagarin after his death in 1968. His parents worked on a collective farm. His father, Alexei Ivanovich Gagarin was a carpenter and bricklayer, and his mother, Anna Timofeyevna Gagarina, was a milkmaid. Yuri was the third of four children: older brother Valentin, older sister Zoya, and younger brother Boris.
