The Port Moody Ale Trail – New Kids on the Block
Back in 2014 it seemed like a quirky twist of fate when two breweries opened on the same street in a supposedly sleepy suburb. When a third brewery joined the original duo on Murray Street, folks began to take notice. Now with four unique operations on “Brewers Row,” beer lovers agree that Port Moody is anything but sleepy—it’s a destination.

Brewers Row - Port Moody, BC (Part 1 )
What if all your favorite breweries were on the same street? Well, that's exactly what has happened in Port Moody, BC. The zoning of the municipality has created a unique situation where all the breweries are located on Murray Street. There are four breweries situated on this street, which has earned it the nickname of Brewers Row.
I'm focusing on two breweries in this episode and visit the remaining breweries in a future episode.
Today I'll be speaking with the first brewery to open on this street, Yellow Dog Brewing with co-owner Mike Coghill.
Later I'll walk down to the second brewery, Moody Ales and speak with co-founder Adam Crandall.

Moody Ales Intrepid Matcha Saison | Awesome BC Craft Beer Ep. #6
A flavor of beer that I'm still trying to wrap my brain around is the Saison. I guess, what I'm trying to figure out is what is considered to be earthy or farmhouse flavor. I'm not too sure what that is at this time. There is definitely something unique as a beer style with the Moody Ales Intrepid Matcha Saison, and it might be the farmhouse flavor, but how can I be sure.
I enjoy green tea, so I naturally thought I would like this Moody Ales Saison, but to my surprise, it didn't go down as smooth as I thought it would. There was a lot of kick to it and the flavor bit at me. It was not a relaxing drink, there was definitely a lot going on in it.
I can predict now that I'm not going to love most Saison — and it might be because of that farmhouse flavor I'm not fully appreciating. Maybe if I go spend more time in the country, I can begin to associate with that taste.
