Mooloolaba - derives from the Aboriginal word mulu, meaning snapper fish, or mulla meaning Red-bellied Black Snake. Originally known as Mooloolah Heads, the name was changed to Mooloolaba by Thomas O'Connor in 1919 when he subdivided land for sale there

Had a nice clean surf further down the beach and followed up with a quick flight around Point Cartwright.
It was an incredible clear warm day on the Sunny Coast and the temptation was too great to have a quick flight.

Mooloolaba is always like returning home for me. A strange mix of happy and sad memories.
I lived on the Sunshine Coast for many years with my Parents and my dog Whisky.
I have now lost both my Parents and Whisky but the memories will always remain.
We enjoyed many long walks at Point Cartwright... even before the now burgeoning Kawana Shopping Town was built. A cinema at Kawana Waters...who would have thought that would happen back in the 1980's!
The air strip at Mooloolaba...now long gone...was another walk Whiskey and I enjoyed. Acres and acres of trees and bushland to run and get lost in. Now it is a road and housing estate. We also used to go to the beach front land at Bokarina before it was built on. So many walk ways through the trees and bushes. Strangely enough it was there where I eventually lived and bought a beachfront house but that is another long and very interesting story indeed. We originally lived at Point Cartwright Drive Kawana Waters.
A memory I will always have was walking over the now Birtinya estate. The building had just begun and it was just trees and bushland at the time a home for many kangaroos and other wild life. There was a lost solitary kangaroo standing alone at the footings of one of the new houses and looking around lost and confused at what had happened to his once lush and peaceful home of bushland. Guess that's progress...well it is progress but sad that many animals have to suffer in the process. I guess I helped to cause the native destruction as I also lived where there was native bush!
I am always filled with so many mixed and confusing emotions when I return to the Sunshine Coast. Often difficult to put in to words.
My home now is the Gold Coast. Double the population and double the excitement with always something happening and a different shopping centre to go to almost every week it seems but the Sunshine Coast will always have a special place in my heart. Will I return permanently? Who Knows what the future holds but for now I am happy living at Main Beach, Gold Coast.
Only time will tell......
