Moon Plains (also known as Sandatanne, Sandagalatanne) is the latest attraction open to public in Nuwara Eliya. This area is now classified as an Agricultural and Environmental Tourism Zone by the Municiple of Nuwara Eliya and was declared opened in March 2014.
The plains is located few kilometers off Nuwara Eliya town and is accessed passing the the Government Potato seed Farm at Sita Eliya. Access to Moon Plains is from the Seetha Eliya Farm, which is a 15 minutes drive from Spring Acre. From the Farm specially authorized safari jeeps are available for hire to travel the 3 km distance to the Moon Plains viewing point.
Moon Plains is a landscape with a grandeur view and is gaining in popularity as the second world's end. Moon Plains is surrounded by cloud forests and unique diversity of flora and fauna and has similar characteristics to that of Horton Plains. Thus, if you have a tight travel schedule the excursion to Moon Plains would be a good alternative experience to Horton Plains.

නුවරඑළියේ නගරයේ සිට කිලෝමීටර් 05 ක් වැනි ඉතා ආසන්නයේ දුරකින් මෙම ස්ථානය පිහිටා ඇත. සොබාදහමේ අපූරු නිර්මාණයක වන මෙය සඳතැන්නයි (Moon Plain). නුවරඑළිය, සීතාඑළිය බීජ අර්තාපල් ගොවිපොළ අතරින් තවත් කිලෝමීටර් 03 ක ගමනාන්තයෙන් අනතුරුව මේ අසිරිමත් ස්ථානය හමුවෙයි. එම ගමන අතරතුරකිලෝමීටර් 03 පුරාම ජෛව විවිධත්වයේ අපූර්වත්වය නරඹමින්, ඉමක් කොනක් නොදකින සොබාදහමේ විශ්මිත නිර්මාණය දැක බලාගනිමින් සංචාරය කළ හැකිය.
සඳතැන්න මුහුදු මට්ටමේ සිට අඩි 6200 ක උසකින් යුක්ත වූ තැනිතලා භූමියකි. අවට නෙත ගැටෙන කඳු අතර උසම කඳුදහයෙන් නවයක්ම දර්ශනය වීම මෙහි ඇති සුවිශේෂී බවයි. එම කඳු 09 අතර පිදුරංගල (අඩි 8281), සිංගල් ට්‍රී (අඩි 6890), කිකිලියාමාන (අඩි 7339), ග්‍රේට් වෙස්ටර්න් (අඩි 7257), කොනිකල් හිල් (අඩි 7339), කිරිගල්පොත්ත (අඩි 7835) තොටුපල කන්ද (අඩි 7737) හග්ගල (7110), නමුණුකුල (අඩි 667) වෙයි.

One of the best place to have a panoramic view of mountains in Sri Lanka. Recently opened attraction in Nuwaraeliya with different kind of experience to the travelers. The main attraction of Moon Plains is the mini Worlds End at the edge giving a 360 Degree view of the surrounding peaks and towns. It is a Wide open area with the chances of seeing wild boars, cows, buffaloes, deer and also a total of 105 bird species are recorded in the area of which 16 are endemic to Sri Lanka.
