Machu Picchu's Hidden Moon Temple
Climbing Wayna Picchu in Peru Part Two - The Temple of the Moon
This is the second part of my climb to the summit of Wayna Picchu (Huayna Picchu), the mountain that is behind the lost Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru.
Be sure to check out part one before you see this one.
This video starts after I have reached the summit of Wayna Picchu and start to follow a second trail that leads down to the Gran Caverna and the Temple of the Moon. Along the way I climb down old wooden ladders and steep rock faces. On the way back up start to run out of water and go slightly crazy dreaming about having a large Coke at the café.

Ride to the Temple of the Moon and View of Machu Picchu

Inside Temple of the Moon at Machu Picchu
Should you hike Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu?
Hi Guys,
In this video we explore Machu PIcchu, Wayna Picchu and the Gran Caverna with it's moon temple.
We left Cusco the day before we planned on hiking Machu PIcchu. We took a 2 hour private taxi from Cusco to the train station. We then boarded the Inca Rail and spent another couple hours on the train before arriving in the Aguas Calientes. We spent the night in Aguas Calientes and planned on waking up at 4AM to get ready to take the first bus up the mountain.
We we're on the second bus and we're one of the first people to enter Machu PIcchu. We payed extra for premium tickets that would give us access to Wayna Picchu. These tickets are very popular and should be booked 4-6 month's in advance as there are only 400 of them available per day.
We entered Wayna Picchu at 7:30AM, this is when the trail opens up and if you are one of the first people to start the hi it's ideal as it's very difficult and you don't want to get stuck behind someone slow.
After a 2 hour hike up, we decided to extend our hike and visit the Gran Caverna and the moon temple. This extension is 2-3 hours depending on your speed and the weather. It's likely you can expect rain on this trail as you circle the wetside of the mountain. The views are spectacular and there is plenty of wildlife including parrots. We highly recommend taking this route back if you have the energy.
When we got back to the main fortress of machu Picchu there we're people everywhere. We did a quick tour through the ruins, took some photos and headed down the mountain by bus.
