Moores Creek is the site of one of the first battles in the South of the Revolutionary War and the first patriot victory of the war. Throughout the park remnants remain of the 1776 road traveled by patriot and loyalist forces. A .7-mile trail with wayside exhibits leads through the battlefield and across Moores Creek. The historic bridge site is located along the trail. The park offers a visitor center with exhibits, lighted troop movement maps and film, a .3 mile colonial forest trail and a picnic area.

SUMMARY
=======
Moores Creek National Battlefield is a United States National Battlefield managed by the National Park Service. The park commemorates the 1776 victory by a thousand Patriots over about eight hundred Loyalists at the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. The battle dashed the hopes of Royal Governor Josiah Martin of the Province of North Carolina for regaining control of the colony for the British crown. The Loyalist defeat ended British plans for an invasionary force to land in Brunswick Town, North Carolina. North Carolina voted to declare independence from the British on April 12, 1776, shortly after the victory at Moore's Creek, which is located in the Wilmington area near Currie in Pender County in southeastern North Carolina. The park was established as a National Military Park on June 2, 1926 and was redesignated as a National Battlefield on September 8, 1980.
Learning the history of the ORIGINAL homesteaders in North Carolina | Vlog |
The family went out the Scottish Heritage Festival at Moore's Creek Battlefield in Currie, NC. We learned a lot about the original settlers in the area and how the Scots were coerced into settling the dangerous areas of the Carolina colony. It was a very educational day and Farmer Lu got to run around in the forest! ***WARNING: THE VIDEO CONTAINS BAGPIPES AND MEN IN KILTS (INCLUDING MYSELF)***

Andrew and Sabrina are big dreamers! After watching many hours of other great homestead YouTubers, Funky Feathers was born in March 2019. Sabrina and Andrew took the plunge and bought a flock of baby chicks. Things didn't quite work out on our rented property in the DC suburbs, so we took a big leap and moved our family (and flock of 22 chickens) from Northern Virginia to a family property in Southeastern North Carolina. We are working on bringing this property back to life and making it a thriving homestead. Law Enforcement Memorial unveiled in Great Falls
Dozens of people came to see the Great Falls & Cascade County Law Enforcement Memorial as it was unveiled at Overlook Park on Monday morning.
The dedication marks the beginning of National Police Week, a time to recognize all those who wear the badge and all those who have fallen in the line of duty.
Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards said, I find it very fitting that we are here today to dedicate this memorial at the beginning of National Police Week. The names you will see on this memorial are the names of the bravest of the brave that answered the call and put themselves in harm's way in the name of justice and the pursuit of what is right.
There are seven names on the memorial.
Chief Bowen and Sheriff Edwards called out the names of the officers and deputies who have laid down their lives.
City Marshall Commodore Perry Downing, November 1895; Police Officer Luke Curry, November 1898; Police Officer Frank H. Connolly, August 1920; Deputy Herbert E. Locke, December 1928; Lieutenant Segval Sig Semingsen, November 1935; Senior Officer Shane Russell Chadwick, September 1994.
And last, the most recent casualty; Sheriff Edwards said, Deputy Joseph James Dunn, end of watch August 14th, 2014.

Equality Fireside Chat with Betty Reid Soskin & Tony Prophet
Join us for a fireside chat with Betty Reid Soskin and Tony Prophet. At 96, Betty is the oldest active National Parks Ranger. Her legacy ranges from clerking in a segregated union hall during World War II, to political activism during the Civil Rights Era, to working as a congressional field representative. Betty played a key role in shaping and designing the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, CA, ensuring that the reality of history - including racism, segregation, and sexism - weren't left out of the narrative. Today, Betty continues to drive equality by teaching history classes to the public at the National Parks Service.

SUMMARY
=======
North Carolina ( (listen)) is a state in the southeastern region of the United States. It borders South Carolina and Georgia to the south, Tennessee to the west, Virginia to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. North Carolina is the 28th most extensive and the 9th most populous of the U.S. states. The state is divided into 100 counties. The capital is Raleigh, which along with Durham and Chapel Hill is home to the largest research park in the United States (Research Triangle Park). The most populous municipality is Charlotte, which is the second largest banking center in the United States after New York City.The state has a wide range of elevations, from sea level on the coast to 6,684 feet (2,037 m) at Mount Mitchell, the highest point in North America east of the Mississippi River. The climate of the coastal plains is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the state falls in the humid subtropical climate zone. More than 300 miles (500 km) from the coast, the western, mountainous part of the state has a subtropical highland climate.
In 2018, North Carolina was ranked number one on Forbes' Best States for Business ranking for a second year in a row.

Augusta National Golf Club
Augusta National Golf Club, located in Augusta, Georgia, is one of the most famous golf clubs in the world. Founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts on the site of the former Fruitland (later Fruitlands) Nursery, the course was designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie and opened for play in January 1933. Since 1934, it has played host to the annual Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships in professional golf, and the only major played each year at the same course. It was the number one ranked course in Golf Digest's 2009 list of America's 100 greatest courses and is currently the number ten ranked course on Golfweek Magazine 's 2011 list of best classic courses in the United States, in terms of course architecture.
The golf club's exclusive membership policies have drawn criticism, particularly because there were no African-American members admitted until 1990, as well as a former policy requiring all caddies to be black, which was only omitted from the club's bylaws in 1959. The clubs refused membership to women until August 2012. Prior to the acceptance of female members, the Augusta National defended its position by citing that in 2011, over 15% of the non-tournament rounds were played by female players who were member guests or spouses of active members. In August 2012, it admitted its first two female members, Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore. The golf club has defended the membership policies, stressing that it is a private organization.

Klein Bearkats vs. Elsik Rams - 2014/15 Boys Basketball - 12/30/14
Klein head coach Glenn Arnold was all smiles as his team was up at half by 21 on Elsik in the 3rd place game of the Conroe tournament. The Bearkats with some slick passing as Chika Ubah puts it in. 36-14 Klein, the 6-3 senior led the way with 16 points. Ubah gets a little sloppy on the pass, and Elsik’s Orowo Eleyae turns it into points on the other end. After scoring 34 points in the first half Arnold tells the Bearkats to slow things down and they chew up a bunch of clock before Ubah drops in the jumper. The strategy worked to perfection despite only scoring 6 points in the 3rd Klein was up 40-20. Klein takes care of business in the 4th, Myles Smith pulls up from the side to give the Bearkats a little more cushion and then Mark Brooks with the assist to Brandon Ayers. Klein knocks off Elsik 47 – 31 to claim the third place trophy.
