DRIVING TOUR of MOOREA | Part 2
This is Part 2 of our driving tour of Mo'orea. In the video DRIVING TOUR | Mo'orea Part 1 I posted previously, you'll see that the day began as overcast with light rain; however, the sun came out and the weather was perfect the rest of the day as shown in this video. This was typical of the weather we had for the week we stayed in Mo'orea.
Driving information:
The island is approx. 37 miles (60km) and marked every kilometer with a PK post. We rented a car through AVIS. AVIS picked us up from our hotel at Sofitel Ia Ora Beach Resort in the morning and drove us to their office across from the ferry dock to fill out rental paperwork and pick-up our car.
The ferry dock and AVIS office are only 5-minutes away from the Sofitel. The drive around the entire island took us 4.5 hours, which included several stops for photos. It was a cloudy, overcast day all-day, so although the island is still very beautiful, a sunny day in Mo'orea shows the vibrant colors and scenery of the island in a totally different light. The roads in Mo'orea are easy and driveable. There were only a couple of muddy roads that we ventured onto for a side-tour, but the main roads are well maintained.
Driving was easy and stress-free, and driving is on the right side of the road as in North America.
Important note, we reserved an economy rental car days before we arrived on the island, and the car they provided for us when we arrived was a stick shift (manual transmission). My husband knows how to drive a stick so there was no issue, but if you require an automatic transmission rental be sure to specify this when you reserve your car. We only used the car 1 day on Mo'orea, and the 2nd day we used it to take the car ferry to Tahiti (30-minutes away). The drive around Tahiti took us about 5.5 hours with stops on a rainy day. Location
Moorea Fun Dive is located on a lovely white sand beach, a few steps away from Moorea Camping in the district of Haapiti, on the north coast, right next to a shopping area and restaurants. Non divers are welcome to stay and enjoy the beach during the dive.
Diving in Moorea
The name says it all. Moorea Fun Dive is a small-scale, family-run operation that takes diving, and your personal enjoyment, very seriously. With their friendly, no-nonsense approach, Greg and Catherine will make you feel comfortable, safe, and will delight in showing you the wonders of Moorea's stunning underwater environment.
There are three types of dive on offer : lagoon dives, outside-the-reef dives, and pass dives.
Dives within the lagoon are in shallow, clear water. Ideal for scuba lessons and initiations in the company of colourful tropical fish.
Just outside Moorea’s reef, among a great variety of corals and canyons, you will dive among the larger fauna : lemon sharks, grey sharks, black & white tip sharks, moray eels, Napoleon fish, jack fish, barracuda, tuna and turtles.
Taota Pass is the most interesting opening in the coral reef between the lagoon and the ocean. There are always a large number of fish in this area, as the tidal flows provide abundant nutrients. It is a cruising zone for large schools of eagle rays and white tip sharks.
A diving trip in good spirits and in a pristine marine environment, that will stay long in the memory. In season (July to November), your dive may be even more unforgettable if you are lucky enough to see the humpback whales, the largest and friendliest residents of Moorea's waters.
Fun Dive Services
Moorea Fun Dive caters for divers of all levels, beginners and experienced. PADI and CMAS courses for certification are offered in French, English and German.
Moorea Fun Dive provides free transportation to and from your hotel or guest-house. Pick up is at at 8:00 am and 2:00 pm daily. Simply book your dive and wait in the lobby.

Moorea Fun Dive - Plongée sous marine à Moorea
Situation
Moorea Fun Dive est situé sur une plage de sable blanc, à deux pas du Moorea Camping, dans le district de Haapiti, sur la côte nord, à proximité de nombreux commerces et restaurants. Les non plongeurs sont les bienvenus sur le site et peuvent profiter de la plage pendant la plongée.
Plongée sous-marine à Moorea
Le nom est révélateur. Moorea Fun Dive est un petit club familial, qui ne se prend pas au sérieux, mais prend la plongée et votre bien-être très sérieusement. Avec leur approche chaleureuse et terre-à-terre, Greg et Catherine vous mettront à l'aise et vous feront évoluer en toute sécurité, tout en prenant plaisir à vous faire découvrir les richesses de l'environnement sous-marin de Moorea.
Trois types de plongées sont proposés : en lagon, sur le récif extérieur, et dans les passes.
Les plongées en lagon s'effectuent dans une eau peu profonde et très claire. Un environnement idéal pour les leçons de plongée et les baptêmes, en compagnie de nombreux poissons tropicaux multicolores.
Sur la pente externe du récif corallien de Moorea, dans une grande variété de coraux et de canyons, vous plongerez au milieu d'une faune impressionnante : requins citron, requins gris, requins pointes noires et pointes blanches, murènes, Napoléons, carangues, barracudas, thons et tortues.
La passe Taota est le passage le plus intéressant dans la barrière de corail entre le lagon et l’océan. On rencontre toujours de nombreux poissons dans cette zone, car les mouvements de la mer apportent de la nourriture en abondance. C’est une zone de passage pour les bancs de raies léopard et les requins à pointes blanches.
Une plongée dans un bon esprit et un environnement préservé, qui restera un souvenir gravé dans votre mémoire. En saison (de juillet à novembre), votre plongée pourrait être encore plus mémorable si vous avez la chance d'approcher les baleines à bosse, ces paisibles géants qui viennent résider quelques temps au calme dans les eaux de Moorea.

Villa Ylang Ylang is located in Moorea Island, the sister island of Tahiti main Island, French Polynesia.
Moorea Island is at only 30-min away from Tahiti.
From the ferry docks it will take you about 25 min by car to reach the property situated on the western coast of the Island.
We recommend that you rent a car as there is no public transportation in Moorea. We can arrange this service for you, please ask us.
The gated property is set right on a white sand beach.
The property is composed of 3 parts set on a large planted garden.
First part welcomes 2 bedrooms (no air-conditionning but fan) both equipped of king size beds and their own bathroom (shower, sink and toilets), a fully equipped kitchen, a living room and a wide covered terrace overlooking the beach and the blue lagoon.
Second part features a large bedroom (with air conditionning and fan) with a king size bed and two single beds as well as a bathroom with sink, shower and toilets. This part has also a fully equipped kitchen and a wide terrace facing the beach.
The last part is a bedroom (no air-conditionning but fan) with a king size bed. This bedroom is called the aquarium as the bedroom is surrounded by glass windows offering spectacular views.
The villa has recently been renovated and appliances are new. The owners made much efforts to make the guest stay most enjoyable and comfortable.
The whole property is made of wood with Polynesian decoration inspiration. Colorful cushions and bed sheets, as well as various paintings bring coziness to the overall.
Free Wifi internet and kayaks are available for your stay.
The property welcomes 10 persons total. It is ideal for two families traveling together. No party allowed.
The different parts cannot be rented separately. We ensure total intimacy and privacy during your stay.
You may enjoy traditional Polynesian meal at popular Painapo beach restaurant located at only 2 min walking distance.
There is a small convenient store at 1500 ft from the Villa Ylang Ylang, and you will find Pizza at 1 min distance by car.

Coco Beach - Moorea Motu Restaurant
Location
At the north-western tip of the island of Moorea are two gorgeous, palm-fringed motu, or islets, out on the reef, only a short distance from the main island. The Coco Beach restaurant is on Motu Moea, right on the beach.
To get there, look out for the Coco Beach sign on the lagoon side of the ring road, not far from the entrance to the Intercontinental hotel. There is a private parking lot, and a private jetty, from where a canoe will take you across for lunch in paradise.
The Restaurant
Simplicity and freshness are the keywords. Is anything more luxurious than having lunch in the shade, with your bare feet in the sand, while gazing at one of the most beautiful islands in the South Pacific, across a stretch of crystal clear, turquoise water ?
Obviously, fresh fish features highly on the menu. Tahitian style raw fish marinated in lime juice with vegetables, Tuna fish Tartare, and grilled swordfish are a true delight. The details may vary with the catch of the day, but the freshness is guaranteed. Barbecued meat is also available, with a generous helping of rice, fries, or vegetables.
Sunday Special : Every first sunday of the month, Coco Beach organizes a Ma'a Tahiti. Ma'a Tahiti is a feast for which various local specialties are wrapped in banana leaves and steam-cooked in an earth oven. The opening of the oven is something to witness, so make sure you get there before noon.
After lunch, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the beach, work on your suntan, or go snorkeling with the tropical fish and the stingrays. Just tell the restaurant staff when you are ready, and they will call for the canoe to collect you.

Coco Beach - Restaurant sur un Motu a Moorea
Situation
À la pointe nord-ouest de l'île de Moorea se trouvent deux magnifiques motu, ou îlots, bordés de cocotiers et posés sur le récif, à courte distance de la côte de l'île. Le restaurant Coco Beach est sur le Motu Moea, sur la plage.
Pour vous y rendre, suivez le panneau Coco Beach du côté lagon de la route de ceinture, non loin de l'entrée de l'hôtel Intercontinental. Il y a un parking privé, et un ponton privé d'où une pirogue à moteur vous emmènera déjeuner au paradis.
Le Restaurant
La simplicité et la fraîcheur sont les deux mots clés. Existe-t-il plus grand luxe que de déjeuner à l'ombre, les pieds nus dans le sable, en admirant l'une des plus belles îles du Pacifique Sud par-delà un chenal d'eau cristalline et turquoise ?
Bien évidemment, le poisson frais est à l'honneur. Le poisson cru à la tahitienne, mariné au citron vert avec des crudités, le tartare de thon frais, et l'espadon grillé sont de purs délices. Les détails du menu peuvent varier en fonction des prises, mais la fraîcheur est toujours garantie. Pour les amateurs, la viande au barbecue est également excellente, avec une généreuse portion de riz, de frites, ou de légumes.
Un dimance par mois : Chaque premier dimanche du mois, Coco Beach organise un Ma'a Tahiti. Le Ma'a Tahiti est un festin pour lequel diverses spécialités locales sont enveloppées dans des feuilles de bananier et cuites à la vapeur dans un four creusé à même la terre. Faites en sorte d'être sur place avant midi, car l'ouverture du four est un événement à ne pas manquer.
Après le déjeuner, vous avez tout le temps devant vous pour profiter de la plage, parfaire votre bronzage, ou aller nager avec les poissons tropicaux et les raies pastenagues. Informez simplement le personnel du restaurant de l'heure à laquelle vous souhaitez rentrer, ils appelleront la pirogue afin qu'elle vienne vous chercher.
