Slava Korolenkov | Вячеслав Короленков, 1958
Vyacheslav (Slava) Korolenkov was born in 1958 in the small city of Tula, not far from Moscow. Before entering Art School he studied drawing with a sculptor, and as a result was accepted to the Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts on his first attempt. While still a student one of his paintings represented the Stroganov Academy at an exhibition in Prague.
After graduating in 1988, Korolenkov exhibited his work for a few years in the Central House of Artists in Moscow, where his works became sought after by collectors. After this there was a long break of fifteen years, during which Korolenkov didn't touch an easel. Throughout this time Korolenkov undertook an inward journey which ultimately allowed him to appreciate the “marvelous essence” of the world, and inspired a joy of painting which he had not felt before.
Influenced by Russian artists such as impressionist Konstantin Korovin, and Nikolai Fechin, Korolenkov maintains that his greatest teacher is every sunny day that gives him a chance to breathe, smile, and chat with family and friends.
Slava Korolenkov's works are represented in private collections in Japan, the USA, Germany, France and elsewhere. Since 2012, he has regularly led master classes in Moscow and training in Plein Air technique across Russia and abroad. He lives and works in Moscow.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Sacramento ( SAK-rə-MEN-toh; Spanish: [sakɾaˈmento]) is the capital city of the U.S. state of California and the seat of Sacramento County. Located at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River in Northern California's Sacramento Valley, Sacramento's estimated 2018 population of 501,334 makes it the sixth-largest city in California and the 9th largest capital in the United States. Sacramento is the seat of the California Assembly, the Governor of California, and Supreme Court of California, making it the state's political center and a hub for lobbying and think tanks. Sacramento is also the cultural and economic core of the Sacramento metropolitan area, which had 2010 population of 2,414,783, making it the fifth largest in California.Sacramento is the fastest-growing major city in California, owing to its status as notable financial center on the West Coast and as a major educational hub, home of Sacramento State University and University of California, Davis. Similarly, Sacramento is a major center for the California healthcare industry, as the seat of Sutter Health, the world-renowned UC Davis Medical Center, and the UC Davis School of Medicine, and notable tourist destination in California, as the site of The California Museum, the Crocker Art Museum, California Hall of Fame, the California State Capitol Museum, and the Old Sacramento State Historic Park. Sacramento is known for its evolving contemporary culture, dubbed the most hipster city in California. In 2002, the Harvard University Civil Rights Project conducted for Time magazine named Sacramento America's Most Diverse City. Before the arrival of the Spanish, the area was inhabited by the Nisenan people indigenous peoples of California. Spanish cavalryman Gabriel Moraga named surveyed and named the Rio del Santísimo Sacramento (Sacramento River) in 1808, after the Blessed Sacrament, referring to the Eucharist in the Catholic Church. In 1839, Juan Bautista Alvarado, Mexican governor of Alta California granted the responsibility of colonizing the Sacramento Valley to Swiss-born, Mexican citizen John Augustus Sutter, who subsequently established Sutter's Fort and the settlement at the Rancho Nueva Helvetia. Following the American Conquest of California and the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, the waterfront developed by Sutter began to be developed and incorporated in 1850 as the City of Sacramento. As a result of the California Gold Rush, Sacramento became a major commercial center and distribution point for Northern California, serving as the terminus for the Pony Express and the First Transcontinental Railroad.

Exclusion: The Presidio's Role in World War II Japanese American Incarceration
During World War II, the Presidio of San Francisco – the Army's Western Defense Command – played a pivotal role in the unjust incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans, purportedly in the name of national security. 2017 marks 75 years since Lieutenant General John L. DeWitt issued Civilian Exclusion Orders from the Presidio. Visit the Presidio’s special exhibition, “Exclusion: The Presidio's Role in World War II Japanese American Incarceration” to learn more. The exhibition invites visitors to investigate the choices – both personal and political – that led to this dark chapter in American history and examines the post's little understood part in these events. Visit the exhibition at the Presidio Officers’ Club at 50 Moraga Avenue in the Presidio. Open Tuesdays – Sundays, 10am – 5pm, April 2017 until Spring 2019. For more information:

Suzanne D'Arcy oil painting in Oakland, California. 20 Artists @ Uptown Open Studios
Suzanne D'Arcy @ Uptown. Pro Arts Open Studios
SuzanneDArcy.com
Biographical Information
Suzanne D'Arcy, born and bred in California, has grown up with landscape that encompasses great stone ridges and peaks, wide vistas of agricultural fields and fruit and nut orchards, green swells of land dotted with red and black cattle, fierce rushing rivers in canyons of granite, and lush coastal beaches. Her California cities bustle with the diversity of peoples and cultures that enrich and enliven urban scenes. Living in a state as beautiful and varied in visual environments as an artist and citizen has fine tuned her appreciation of beauty. There is literally a painting every where one can look-city or town or country.
Artist's Statement
I knew early on in my life that painting and drawing were integral to my self. As a very little kid, the illustrations of Arthur Szyk in Grimm's Fairytales, struck me for their drama and clarity; I knew that the world of representational art would be my focus. There is such beauty in the ordinary city street, open field, sea edge, a person's face that I have never been without motivation or subject matter for painting. Diversity of subject matter reflects the wonderful complexity of our visual world. With plein air painting I am, like my fellow painters, often painting nature's scenery that will soon disappear under the wheels of land development. I feel I am painting one page in the long story of our changing land.
To be an artist and engage the imagination through creative process and build the technical knowledge is a wonderful path in life. I'm on this road and I love it.

Rehabilitating the Presidio Officers' Club - An Overview
No place in the Presidio is more beloved than the historic Officers' Club, located on the Main Post. Over the course 235 years, the building has played many roles. It served as offices and living quarters for the fort commander, as a post headquarters, as officers' quarters, and as a social center for the Spanish, Mexican, and United States armies. With each new use the building has grown and evolved, like the Presidio itself.
Today, the oldest and most revered building in the Presidio (and one of the two oldest in San Francisco) is undergoing a comprehensive historic rehabilitation that will revive its original grandeur and restore it as a focal point for visitors and as a venue for cultural events.
This video provides an overview of the Officers' Club history and plans for returning it to its place as the Presidio's premiere social destination.
The Officers' Club will reopen as a community and social hub housing the Presidio Heritage Center in 2013. The project is expected to receive a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

A special tool for firefighters designed to save lives, a device that will lower the sound of jet engines, and an automated beverage-mixing system. The beverage? Beer, of course.
These are just three of the student projects featured Friday, Dec. 9, at the Engineering and Computer Science Senior Design Showcase in Santa Clara Hall.
