TRAVEL TIPS | 7 Places To Visit In Fes
At more than a thousand years old, Fez is often considered the spiritual heartland of Morocco. The old medina, Fez al-Bali, is a web of narrow streets and alleys made up of houses and souks, the plan of which has largely remained the same for centuries. Best advice if you’re planning to visit? Get lost in the medina- you will undoubtedly find something of interest. But if you want a little more structure for your trip, here are 7 highlights of Fes medina.

Fez (Arabic: فاس, Berber: Fas, ⴼⴰⵙ, French: Fès) is a city in northern inland Morocco and the capital of the Fas-Meknas administrative region. It is the second largest city in Morocco after Casablanca,[4] with a population of 1.4 million (2014). Located to the northeast of Atlas Mountains, Fez is situated at the crossroad of the important cities of all regions; 206 km (128 mi) from Tangier to the northwest, 246 km (153 mi) from Casablanca, 169 km (105 mi) from Rabat to the west, and 387 km (240 mi) from Marrakesh to the southwest which leads to the Trans-Saharan trade route. It is surrounded by the high grounds, and the old city is penetrated by the River of Fez flowing from the west to east.
Fez was founded under the Idrisid rule during the 8th-9th century. It consisted of two autonomous and competing settlements. The migration of 2000 Arab families in the early 9th century gave the nascent city its Arabic character. After the downfall of the Idrisid dynasty, several empires came and went until the 11th century when the Almoravid Sultan Yusuf ibn Tashfin united the two settlements and rebuilt the city, which became today's Fes el Bali quarter. Under the Almoravid rule, the city gained the reputation for the religious scholarship and the mercantile activity. Fez was expanded during the Almohad rule and became the largest city in the world during 1170-1180 with the estimated population of 200,000.
Fez reached its zenith in the Marinid-era, regaining the status as the capital. Numerous madrasas, mosques, zawiyas and city gates were constructed which survived up until today. These buildings are considered the hallmarks of Moorish and Moroccan architectural styles. Marinid sultans also founded Fes Jdid quarter, where newer palaces and gardens were established. During this time, the Jewish population of the city grew as well, with the Mellah (Jewish quarter) attracting the Jewish migrants from other North African regions. After the overthrow of the Marinid dynasty, the city largely declined and replaced by Marrakesh for political and cultural influence, but remained as the capital under the Wattasids and modern Morocco until 1912.
Today, the city largely consists of two old medina quarters, Fes el Bali and Fes Jdid, and modern urban area of Ville Nouvelle constructed during the French colonial era. The medina of Fez is listed as a World Heritage Site and is believed to be one of the world's largest urban pedestrian zones (car-free areas).[5] It has the University of Al Quaraouiyine which was founded in 859 and the oldest continuously functioning university in the world. It also has Chouara Tannery from the 11th century, one of the oldest tanneries in the world. The city has been called the Mecca of the West and the Athens of Africa, a nickname it shares with Cyrene in Libya.

Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Morocco:
Best way to Experience the Sahara Desert | Camping in Merzouga, Morocco
The final Morocco vlog is here! Camping in the Sahara Desert at a spot called Merzouga.
Here we rode camels to our remote campsite, spent the night eating Moroccan food and listening to music played by the locals.
In the morning we made our way back to our new campsite by camel ride before jumping into some Jeeps to go on Safari.
To end it all a big long 13 hour bus ride to Marrakesh so we can finally show you what staying in a Riad is like.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN Morocco 2018 - Paradise Valley, Tiout(Morocco cities, Beaches, Attractions)
Paradise Valley is a section of the Tamraght River valley in the Moroccan High Atlas mountains. It is located approximately 20 km north of Agadir. The valley is known for its abundance of rock pools and small waterfalls.
Tiout is a small town and rural commune in Taroudant Province of the Souss-Massa-Drâa region of Morocco. At the time of the 2004 census, the commune had a total population of 2817 people living in 555 households.
Beside the seaside leisure activities, Agadir is also famous for its Berber traditions, its vital port, its ruins and its wonderful markets. A perfect charm to be discovered all year round specially from the nice Kasbah.

Cooking Class
Morocco: The land of colours, spices and perfumes makes the strong local culture of Morocco and gives a unique flavour to the visitors who wish to share in it’s charms. It’s everyone’s dream to experience the real Morocco, from it’s people, culture, diversity and it’s unique cuisine. In this area we focus on the word cuisine.
Whether you are a first time visitor or seasoned traveller we are very proud to share with you the traditions and the culture to taste and experience the real Morocco. Our aim is to make you feel a member of our family enjoying the Moroccan customs.
Your Cooking Lesson will be with a local family and very hands on. This can be added to your tour in the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, to learn and share a local specialty. Other locations available upon request, just ask!
Hammam & Spa
The Hammam “Turkish Bath” is a big part of Moroccan Culture. The Hammam is a public bath (but can be private as well as it’s now found in select Riads and Hotels). For women, this is a place where they meet and discuss their daily life and people’s problems, so in every family, women, men and children visit the Hammam at least once every 2 weeks. Here locals use the traditional black soap, some herbs to make the flavour of the water smells good, and leave the body perfumed after you leave.
Inside the Hammam you’ll find 3 rooms, first one after the reception is a changing room where you leave your clothes, and you’ll go inside to a very warm room while wearing underwear. (in private hammams you can be completely naked) You’ll wash your body with black soap making your skin soft and taking all the dirt off the skin with a soft scrub.
After you finish the scrub you move to the second room where you wash again and let the steam purify your skin. After a Hammam we recommend to end the experience with a massage for a true spa experience.
We offer you this Activity to complete your Real Experience in Morocco and can book you either a private or public experience.

Travel to Fes, Morocco. Fes is the oldest and largest medieval city in the world, and a bustling hive of activity. The medina is a must for adventurous travellers – a heady mix of aromas, sounds and sights from the tanneries, spice tubs, carpets, pottery and leather goods.
The Medina is divided up into 2, Fes el Bali (Old Fes) and Fes el Djedid (new Fes). Fes el Bali is the most intriguing to visit, little alleyways threading their way through the lively souks, a cacophony of bargaining, colourful sights, incredible smells and a variety of local people going about their everyday business. It is the heart of Fes and besides the souks, houses many mosques and monuments.

Walking Tour of Modern Marrakech — Morocco Africa Video Walk【4K】????????
A Camera Floating Among The Crowd. Walking Around The Modern Area of Marrakech Gueliz in 4K by Wanna Walk.
A real traveler needs a holistic view of a city so in sharp contrast to the Marrakech medina area, Gueliz it's a must see to get a better idea of how Morocco's really is. This is where the modern Morocco citizens like spend time. As you may know, there are two very distinctive areas in Marrakesh: one is the Old Medina (old city) and the new Marrakesh, which is a kinda European style district called Ville Nouvelle or Gueliz. If you wanna walk, everything can be seen on foot but a GPS is key.

Walking Tour Marrakesh
It was an a surprise to find the modern part of Marrakech because it linked modernity with tradition. Beautiful buildings respecting Arabic architecture painted with Marroquin traditional colors, shapes, balconies (re-inventing the Jewish characteristic of the Medina), etc.
Large avenues, gardens full of beautiful and exotic plants, flowers and trees, imposing squares, lovely fountains but above all a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. If you know other Moroccan towns or even other African towns, you will be positively surprised by the organization, cleanness, security and diversity of Marrakech
Ville Nouvelle or Gueliz it's the complete opposite to old Marrakech in terms of what the people are like, how they dress, food that's eaten and atmosphere. Worth a visit just to see a new angle. The heart of the new part of Marrakech, the Gueliz region offers an alternative vibe to the traditional and relaxed old medina atmosphere. Here we explore the most unmissable activities in this Moroccan area.

Marrakech Street Walk 4K
I must say that this it's not the best of places to go to in Marrakech if you only want to know the tradicional old culture but, after a few days, the Marrakech Old Medina may overwhelm you. Yes, it's beautiful and nostalgic and there are tons of things to see and but, you may need a break. Who doesn't? This area its just a few minutes away the Medina Souks and it's more relaxed. You will find a more western style of life with coffee stores and shops. Most people speak English, French, Spanish and of course, Arabic. This is the place where you find essentials things like water, groceries, SIM cards, Zara Store, H&M, Starbucks and even Mcdonalds. Although Gueliz its modern and cosmopolitan, you feel you still in Africa. Very modern buildings, nice shops and restaurants, very lively neighbourhood.

This area it's completely different from the Medina and closer to the feeling of big cities around the world. Interesting to see how Moroccan culture applies to a modern environment. Give yourself a pause from these chaotic narrow streets and dust from the Old Medina. Jemaa el Fna is not far from Gueliz. You can just walk, it's close and pretty safe. Anyway a 5 euro taxi can ride you there. New town is part of the Marrakech culture too and you'll be close to the action and culture.
How do you say it: Marrakech or Marrakesh? Don’t worry, both are okay! Marrakech Morocco in 4K by Wanna Walk - The common English spelling is Marrakesh and Marrakech in French is also widely used. I was told that the name Marrakech comes from the words amur kush which means The Land of God. This is the third largest city in Morocco with less population than Casablanca and Fez. The city lies near of the Atlas Mountains and it's pretty close to the Sahara Desert. Be sure to also visit the square of Jemaa El-Fna is very popular, in particular in the Marrakech's night. Lovely atmosphere at night in Gueliz, vibrant and safe. Much more fun to stay in Gueliz and then dip in and out of the medina.
