Egypt defends airport security after hijack drama
The hijack of EgyptAir Flight MS181 on Tuesday after its take-off from Alexandria may have ended safely.
But security questions raised are likely to deal another blow to the Egyptian tourism industry.
Speaking to reporters as the hostage drama at Larnaca, Cyprus, came to an end, Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said that the hijacker at one point demanded a meeting with a representative of the EU and at another point demanded that the plane leave for another airport.
“In general there was no specific demand,” Ismail said.
“He is an Egyptian and obviously there will be a thorough investigation to find out the reasons behind such an act.”
Egypt is eager to demonstrate that security at its airports is good.
TV channels have been showing video footage posted by Egypt’s Interior Ministry on its Facebook page in which a man presented as the suspected hijacker is seen passing through a scanner before the plane took off, amid security checks at Borg El Arab airport in Alexandria

Amazing Turkish Food and Attractions in Istanbul - Istanbul, Turkey, Travel Guide!

►Camera I use:
Day 9: Istanbul, Turkey - This was a day of sightseeing at some of the most famous attractions in Istanbul that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. And the read highlight of the day for me was the incredible Turkish food, especially the kebabs.
Museum Pass Istanbul - 85 TRY ($28.88) - Before getting started with the things we did in this video, I purchased a Museum Pass for Istanbul, which granted me access to a few of the attractions without having to stand in line. I’m not sure if I really saved much money, but it did save time.
2:00 Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) - Our first stop of the day in this attractions in Istanbul video was the Sultan Ahmet Camii, which is commonly known as the Blue Mosque due to its blue tiles on the inside. We actually arrived a little too early in the morning, so they were not open yet, so we walked around the Hippodrome of Constantinople for a few minutes. When the Blue Mosque opened, we went inside. Both inside and outside are incredible to see.
5:37 Hagia Sophia - One of the most famous pieces of architecture in all of Istanbul and one of the most famous attractions is Hagia Sophia. It started off as a church, later became a mosque, and now it’s an official museum. After entering, you can walk around the main room, but the highlight of visiting Hagia Sophia for me was walking up to the upper galleries for some amazing views from above.
8:24 Topkapi Palace - Finally, one more of the most famous attractions in Istanbul, and located right in the same area as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque is Topkapi Palace, which was an Ottoman Palace. You can walk around the gardens and palace structures, which are now galleries. I especially enjoyed the Imperial Harem, which was a section of the palace reserved for women, and the best preserved area of the palace.
11:25 Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab (Şehzade Cağ Kebap) - There are many different types of Turkish food, and cag kebab is a type of kebab from Erzurum in Eastern Turkey. According some some men I met while eating the amazing kebabs, this is the best restaurant for cag kebab in all of Istanbul. The type of kebab is made from lamb, and instead of being on a vertical skewer like other types of kebabs, it’s grilled on a horizontal skewer. The meat is cooked with wood fire, and slice off onto smaller skewers to be served. If you get a chance to try cag kebab, it’s an absolutely stunning Turkish food. The entire meal was delicious, but the best part was meeting the owner of Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab and eating a slice of the meat right off the roll hot and fresh. Out entire meal cost 85 TL ($28.88).
20:34 Basilica Cistern - 20 TRY ($6.80) - Arter the amazing Turkish food lunch, we headed over to see the Basilica cistern, one of many underground cisterns in Istanbul. It was interesting to see. We then headed to the hotel for a rest, and then went out again for dinner.
23:27 Dinner at Balkan Lokantasi - Beşiktaş is a neighborhood in Istanbul and we walked over to a restaurant for dinner in that neighborhood called Balkan Lokantasi. It was an extremely busy restaurant serving all sorts of different Turkish food in a cafeteria like style. You walk through the line, choose whatever dishes you want, and pay for what you get. You can eat a serious feast for a pretty good price. I got a little confused and didn’t really know what I was doing, so ended up ordering what was way too much food. But that’s alright, it was all really delicious.
It was fantastic day of Turkish food and visiting some attractions in Istanbul that I had wanted to visit my entire life.

Most history books will tell you that the Roman Empire fell in the fifth century CE, but this would’ve come as a surprise to the millions who lived in the Roman Empire through the Middle Ages. This Medieval Roman Empire, today called the Byzantine Empire, began when Constantine, the first Christian emperor, moved Rome's capital. Leonora Neville details the rise and fall of the Byzantine Empire.

The First Umayyads & The Crisis of Succession | 661CE - 705CE | The Birth of Islam Episode 06
With the caliphate now in Muawiyah's hands, turned into a full-scale empire, a new era for the caliphate begins.
In this episode, I discuss Muawiyah's rule and the crisis of Succession that led to the second civil war between the Ummayads and Abdullah ibn Az Zubayr.
In Islamic Civilization in Thirty Lives by Chase F. Robinson, Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan is the fourth name. As the author puts it, After Muhammad, Abd al-Malik did more than anyone else to engineer a religio-political vision of the caliphal rule. Abd al-Malik canonized the empire part of Islamic Empire. All the subsequent Islamic empires would follow his model.
Additional Facts:
1) The Ummayad Mosque in Damascus is believed by most Muslims to be the place Jesus will appear near the end of days.
2) Greek Fire was especially used in Naval Battles by the Byzantines because it couldn’t be extinguished by water.
3) Muawiyah was buried in a shirt that previously belonged to Muhammad who had gifted him the shirt.
4) The Ummayads including Muawiyah used a completely white flag. However, now, it’s used as a declaration of surrender.
5) Al-Mukhar’s revolt is also called the Shia Revolt but at this point, “Shia” was only someone who supported Ali’s family for the caliphate, not a sect.

Muslim Teen Goes To Germany - Rapes And Murders Innocent Woman
Muslim Teen Rapes And Then Tries To Murder Greek Girl, He Is Arrested And Released, Goes To Germany And He Rapes And Murders ANOTHER Woman There
by Andrew Bieszad
In a horrible story coming out of Germany, a Muslim teen raped and murdered a German girl. If that was not bad enough, he had raped and attempted to murder a girl in Greece three years earlier. The Greek police not only knew about the entire story and the person who did it, but still allowed him to go to Germany in spite of his horrible crimes:
The suspect of Freiburg had already been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment and served jail time in Greece
But still, he was released as part of an amnesty, allegedly because of over crowded prisons.
An expert supposes that in fact it was about party-politics for the Syriza government.
Much has been said and written on the case of the alleged woman killer of Freiburg, an Afghan refugee who was already in prison for a similar crime in Greece. Ten years’ imprisonment was the verdict after he had thrown a young woman off a cliff.
However, after only one and a half years, he was released in October 2015 as part of an amnesty, with the requirement to report regularly to the police.
Instead, he soon disappeared to Germany. The Greek authorities announced a manhunt, but only within the country – the European Ministries of the Interior therefore had no information about him.
The Greeks did not release an international Arrest warrant
The alleged murderer of Freiburg is convicted in Greece because of a killing offense, Federal Minister of the Interior de Maizière said. He was identified with no doubt. He holds the Greek authorities in part to blame.
“Incompetence,” suggests Dimitris Papadimitriou, a Greek researcher at the University of Manchester. The purpose of the amnesty was to create space in Greece’s overcrowded prisons, by freeing mainly prisoners whose offenses were not particularly severe.
In the case of such less serious cases, it is not customary to alert international authorities if the person released, breaches his reporting obligation and disappears.
Rulebook slowdown? Or lack of attention?
Perhaps, according to Papadimitriou, the responsible authorities had just been “engaging in a rulebook slowdown”. As the perpetrator had been released in the context of an amnesty for less serious crimes, it was perhaps not deemed necessary to report to the partner authorities abroad. Or they just did not pay attention.
The man, however, had been sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for attempted murder. Not a light offense, and Papadimitriou neither understands why the case was not reported to abroad, nor why the man was released at all.
The German Ministry of the Interior has announced that it would demand an explanation from the Greek authorities on their lack of activity.
The Ministry of Justice in Athens has justified its decision with “good conduct” of the prisoner. “Even with very good behavior, a release is normally only considered when at least half of the sentence has been served,” says Papadimitriou. In this case five years. (source)
Tell me, if this was a European man who did this in either country, would he be walking free right now? The answer is clearly no. The jails in Europe are full of Muslims- another indisputable fact- so why would somebody like him, who has a known criminal record for heinous crimes, be allowed to wander?
A careful reading of the news stories should give you a clue as to what is happening.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3

____________
Perhaps it all began when Suleiman's father died...
Suleiman's father, Selim I, had pushed the borders of the Ottoman Empire further than any before him. Suleiman and his childhood friend, a Greek named Ibrahim who'd once been his slave, had to race back to Constantinople to claim the throne before news got out. Suleiman immediately bestowed gifts on the janissaries and court officials whose favor he would need for a successful reign, but he also carried out executions against those he suspected of treachery. He could not afford to be too kind. Indeed, his rule was challenged immediately by a revolt in Syria, which Suleiman crushed with overwhelming force to secure his reputation as a powerful leader. He wanted to stretch the empire even more, to bring it into Europe, which brought his attention to Hungary (his gateway to Europe) and Rhodes (a thorn in his side in the Mediterranean). The young prince of Hungary gave him the excuse he needed by executing an Ottoman envoy who'd come to collect tribute. Suleiman prepared his troops for war.

The Mughal Empire and Historical Reputation: Crash Course World History #217
There's a new Crash Course poster with all your favorite World History characters! Czech it:
In which John Green teaches you about the Mughal Empire, which ruled large swaths of the Indian Sub-Continent from 1526 to (technically) 1857. While John teaches you about this long-lived Muslim empire, he'll also look at the idea of historical reputation and how we view people from history. Namely, he'll look at the reputations of Mughal emperors Akbar I and Aurangzeb. Traditionally, Akbar I is considered the emperor that made the Mughal Empire great, and Aurangzeb gets the blame for running the whole thing into the ground and setting it up for decline. Is that really how it was, though? It turns out, it's complicated.

Uzbekistan Day 1: Tashkent
On Day 1 in Uzbekistan we went on an ultimate Uzbek street food tour in Tashkent, including the biggest bazaar in the city, and the most massive plov (rice pilau) cooking in Tashkent.
We had arrived at the airport in Tashkent at about 4 am in the morning, and at 9 am we were ready to start eating our way through the city.
First we met up with Bekruz and Akbar both from the Ministry of Tourism Uzbekistan (Bekruz is the one who invited me to Uzbekistan and arranged everything for us, so thank you Bekruz!), and Ravshan (check out his channel: a local food vlogger in Uzbekistan.
Two of the most important phrases you should know in Uzbek are:
Assalomu Alaykum - Hello / Greeting
Rahmat - Thank you
Bread Bazaar, Tashkent - We started this ultimate street food tour at the bread bazaar in Tashkent, a market dedicated fully to bread, with a little fruit and other things mixed in. We bought some break, some kaymak, and some fruit and then went to a nearby restaurant where they laid everything on the table for us, along with tea. Uzbek breakfast was a great way to get started.
Chorsu Bazaar - The grandest bazaar in Tashkent is Chorus Bazaar, and it’s a perfect place to get a feel of Uzbek culture and food. We first stopped at the food court to try hanum, a type of dumpling filled with potato and somsa. Then we continued to the dome shaped iconic part of the bazaar, filled with fresh meat and spices. It’s one of the coolest market structures anywhere in the world.
Plov Center - We kind of had to rush out of Chorsu Bazaar because although they prepare 1,500 Kilos, seriously, of rice plov per day, it only takes 2 - 3 hours before they run out everyday. So we got there, already one of the monster swimming pool pans was finished, but they still had a few others going and serving. Plov is the national dish of Uzbekistan, a food that’s eaten on every and all occasions. For Tashkent plov, it’s pretty heavy on the meat at oil, with rice, chickpeas, and raisins. Also it included, qazi - horsemeat sausage which is a delicacy. It was incredibly delicious, and proper meal experience.
Total price - 100,000 UZS ($12.21)
Plov is love, remember that when you’re in Uzbekistan.
National Food Restaurant - After strolling around for a while in the afternoon, we continued to a National Food restaurant, a laid back family style restaurant that serves all things Uzbek food. Along with a number of dishes, the main dish I was most interested in was the naryn, thin slices of dough mixed with minced meat and horse. It was interesting, and quite good, as were the other dishes.
Total price - 110,000 UZS ($13.43)
Sultan Suleyman Restaurant - For dinner we went to a bit of a fancy trendy restaurant, and had another platter of food. This time, dough noodle like sheets topped with meat, horse sausage again, and green onions.
Total price - 122,000 UZS ($14.90)
It was a day of learning, eating, and meeting some amazing people along the way. Thank you for watching this Uzbekistan food tour!

HyperNormalisation (2016 + subs) by Adam Curtis - A different experience of reality FULL DOCUMENTARY
Added subtitles (french, braziianl, hebrew, english, croatian, spanish, turkish and russian)
The cult documentary maker explores the falsity of modern life in his own inimitable style. Though he’s spent the best part of four decades making television, Curtis’s signature blend of hypnotic archive footage, authoritative voiceover and a seemingly inexhaustible appetite for bizarre historical tangents is better suited to the web, a place just as resistant to the narrative handholding of broadcast TV as he is. He argues that an army of technocrats, complacent radicals and Faustian internet entrepreneurs have conspired to create an unreal world; one whose familiar and often comforting details blind us to its total inauthenticity.
