Trek Destination: Mossy Forest, Cameron Highlands
The Mossy Forest is situated at the Perak- Pahang border of Gunung Irau which is Malaysia's 15th highest mountain at 2,110 meters above sea level.
Its geographic location ensures a gentle climate with temperatures not exceeding 25°c and occasionally dipping below 10°c.
This trail can be quite challenging.

Back in 2018, we tried hiking mossy forest but we didn't manage to because someone overslept so this year we try to hike mossy again. 30mins into the drive, bumpy steep roads and bam we are at the entrance but it's CLOSED due to the rainy season in January.

Hey what's up guys this is Johnson for Johnson Malaysia today is a very, very interesting and wonderful beautiful day. I'm with my tourist going to a mystical place something fantastic and beautiful called mossy forest.
Lord of Rings
The Moss here flourishes and this place looks like from the movie The Lord of the Rings or something fantasy like Alice in Wonderland. As we drive through this partway the cool fog covers vision shortly.
Type of Forest
At the entrance the place you will see this Mossy Forest signage and information. In Malaysia we basically have five different types of forest which is the lowest part is known as the Mangrove Forest then we have the Peat swarm forest (Paya Gambut) next we have lowland Dipterocarp (Tanah Pamah) then we have the Hill Dipterocarp forest and here this forest is Montane forests.
Mossy forest
This forest is at the elevation of a 2000 meter, Mount Irau and also Mount Brinchang which is next to it. We are going to enter walking on the Boardwalk. You can see unique flora here. Now this is the place that you can find the Pitcher plant or we call in local language Malay Peruk Kera (Monkey Cup) scientific name Nepenthes is a type of a carnivorous plant that raps fly and small animals. Venus fly trap is another to name. You can find different type of wild orchids. After board walk into the mossy Forest.
Mossy forest watch tower
Thank you to government to build this viewpoint watch tower deck. It is along the Boardwalk. If early in the morning the fog is thick with limited vision, but by 10am it should clear for a super wonderful view to the tropical forest. It's been simply beautiful to watch from here. I have no complete words to express the view. My tourist so so loves this place, but time constraint we continue to the next location.
Palas Tea Plantation
From the Mossy forest, the tourist head to Tea Plantation Palas Boh tea Plantation it is the legacy of Russel family. John Russel founder of Selangor Journal the first newspaper is Selangor brought up his Children as a single parent, it is a sad story which for another day. One of his son became the owner of BOH Plantation and now years have gone by Caroline Russel continues the legacy. The story better told on site by Johnson
Tea and Cake
The most important experience is having your tea overlooking the plantation. The beautiful mountains just like a carpet laid over the hills. While sipping the tea what an experience. You could buy back the tea and visit the factory if the harvest is there for the day.
