HOI AN TO HUE ROADTRIP (WITH HAI VAN PASS) | Vietnam | Vlog 042
After 4 days in Hoi An we head off on a road trip up the coast to Hue, first stopping at Marble Mountain in Danang. We then head to Ba Na Hills with the intention of visiting the Golden Bridge until we discover it is incredibly expensive and part of a rather unusual theme park! From there we drive along the Hai Van Pass that was made famous in Top Gear and on to one more stop before we arrive in Hue.
That evening we head out for our first local meal in Hue and try many of the local specialities including Banh Beo, Banh Uot Thit Nuong & Bun Thit Nuong.

HAI VAN PASS & HUE - Vietnam Motorbike Vlog
Tour the Hue Royal Palace in Hue Vietnam with TRIPPED! The Hue Royal Palace is easily the biggest tourist draw in Hue but a month into the trip the Diemers are feeling a bit burnt out on ancient temples and ruins. They have also discovered the the majority of tourists are just running around taking selfies in front of ancient relics, so they join in on the fun and save the learning for another time.
Afterwards, they realize that about after a month on motorbikes and dealing with Vietnam weather for the past two weeks, that maybe everyone is a little sick of the road and the rain and seeing more temples so head south back to Hoi An to spend Christmas and catch the Hoi An Lantern Festival.
Of course, this means that the Diemers get a second go at doing the Hai Van pass on motorbikes, this time, with less rain.
TRIPPED splurges on hotel accomodations at $33 a night for two people (including breakfast of course!) and stays in the Tra Que area of Hanoi, close to beautiful herb gardens and just a few minutes via motorbike outside downtown Hoi An.

SURVIVING RAIN on Vietnam Motorcycle Trip | Da Nang to Hue | Vietnam Vlog TRIPPED Ep28
SURVIVING RAIN on Vietnam Motorcycle Trip | Da Nang to Hue | Vietnam Vlog TRIPPED Ep28
TRIPPED continues the Vietnam motorbike tour north finally arriving in Danang. While in a large city, there is much to do Oil needs to be changed in their motorcycles, passports need to be renewed, bribes need to be made, and beautiful sunny weather needs to be soak up on beaches. Of course, none of that was filmed because the camera crew also needed a break from shoving cameras in each others faces after months on end.
The magic of the ride to Hue however is captured in all its glory. The Diemers finally get to experience Vietnam weather in all its glory. The minute they depart the hotel, it starts raining down so steady and for so long that only a quote from Forrest Gump could sum it up “We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin' rain... and big ol' fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath. Shoot, it even rained at night…”
Arriving in Hue, Vietnam, the Diemers take a much needed break from eating Pho for every meal and hit the Big C Superstore for groceries and scotch. (Sidenote- The Diemers get more excited about a Big C trip than a suburban soccer mom does over a Sunday afternoon run to Costco. )

HAI VAN PASS ft. ABANDONED WATERPARK!
Lost deep in the jungle, swamped by graffiti and engulfed by marauding trees, with crocodiles circling in the swamps lies an old decaying abandoned water park.
Hello everyone, once again sorry for the delay in uploading this, we should be more frequent after this one! In this week’s vlog we left the beautiful city of Hoi An and ventured out across the incredible Hai Van pass to Hue. The Hai Van pass is a breathtakingly beautiful as you may imagine. Made famous from a Vietnam Top Gear special, it is now a must for all travellers in the region. We booked our one way bikes from Motorvina, left our luggage in their capable hands and set off across the beautifully rugged Hai Van Pass. The Hai Van pass is definitely one of the most beautiful roads we have ever driven, hugging the coast all the way from Hoi An to Hue it offers you incredible panoramic views of the South China Sea and in the opposite direction equally stunning views of the lush green mountain range. Taking around 7 hours altogether including a stop off for lunch, we visited the marble mountain and attempted to find a blue lagoon but gave up due to some very numb bums. Arriving in Hue that evening we got some much needed rest and set out to explore the next day. Hue was the old capital of Vietnam and suffered badly during the Vietnamese war so there are plenty of historic sites to see in this city. We took a quick stroll around the old citadel before moving on to something both Tori and I were excited to see: an abandoned water park. Around 20 minutes outside of Hue is an old abandoned water park, after losing funding in 2002 the project was left unfinished and it has now become a tourist hotspot in the area. As an actual waterpark it would have been quite underwhelming but with its new title of abandoned waterpark it becomes an eerie and fascinating place. There are probably only 3 main attractions: the huge dragon aquarium that sits in the middle of the lake and offers incredible views over the surrounding jungle, the water show amphitheatre and the 3 water slides. The abandoned water park is definitely worth a visit, offering a unique experience to see how the jungle can take hold of a place so quickly after it is left uninhabited. We must also tell you about Motorvina who really helped us out on this trip - they offer a brilliant, safe and hassle free experience of driving the Hai Van pass and we could not thank them enough!

The Haivan Pass, Vietnam
Footage from our motorbike ride along the Haivan Pass, regularly voted one of the World's best roads and made famous by the BBC's Top Gear. We hired our bikes from MotorVina in Hoi An to go one way to Hue. MotorVina will also take your bags to their office in Hue - it's a great service just be sure to check over your bikes condition before you set off! Here's some related reading:
Central Vietnam Motorcycle Tour
This is a video on my trip to Central Vietnam with 3 friends on a motorcycle tour.
We flew to Da Nang and started the ride through Hoi An, had a fantastic time swimming in a pristine white beach with crystal clear waters, spending our first night in the small city of Quang Ngai.
The second day, we travelled through the mountains enjoying the switch backs and hair pin turns both uphill and downhill. Majestic landscapes and padi fields dotted the horizon. Rode into the city of Kon Tum and spent the second night there.
Third day, we rode a long ways through forested roads and bumpy unfinished roads. Stopping briefly at an off-road trail that opened into a stunning valley. The town we spent the night in was hipsterific! Young people flocked to this town in droves in search for work, as such, most of the establishments there were very hip! We ate at a restaurant with guitars everywhere, drank coffee at a cafe that had motorcycles hanging everywhere! This town is known as Buon Ma Thuot.
We rode the final leg to the beach town of Nha Trang, making stops to enjoy the hammock cafes along the way. After riding approximately 800km through less than ideal roads, facing death head-on on a few occasions, it felt good to take a day off before flying home. So we did.
Staying in Ho Chi Minh city for a day, we recorded the music you heard in this video off the street! There were these old war veterans that were just enjoying their food and beer, playing tunes from a borrowed guitar (likely the restaurant's), singing to their hearts' content. We happily recorded it all and bought them a plate of cockles in appreciation!
There's so much that happened on this trip, it was as much a journey of self discovery as it was a thrilling seeking adventure. I had to keep the video short but in total we had 128GB of HD video to sift through!
My Fullcount x Signet 1109 PH took a beating out there. With gravel, sand, mud, tar, etc, splashed all over it while riding between towns. Good way to start it's first month into the HWDC though.
Onto more adventures! What have you done with your denim today?

Hai Van Pass: The most beautiful road in the world!
We drive through the Hai Van Pass - the legendary road that was seen in Top Gear's Vietnam Special. That road is every bit as beautiful as it is hyped up to be. The view of the coastline from the mountains is simply incredible.
