We recently spent two days in Da Lat and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. This vlog covers everything that we saw, ate. So sit back - its a long one! And enjoy!
To start off, we checked in to our accommodation that we booked on Airbnb - This accommodation is a hostel called Maple Hostel! The hostel is located in the centre of a valley overlooking one of the many green pine tree forests of Da Lat. Our favorite part about staying at this hostel was the peace and quiet, the sounds of birds and insects, beautiful butterflies flying around and the serene music being played at the restaurant downstairs. Iv
Not only does the hostel have private rooms, they have a cafe downstairs that serves breakfast, coffee and tea...and they hire out motorbikes too! We ordered a Honda Airblade and it was there within minutes.
As you saw, we started our Da Lat adventure at Datanla Waterfalls where we took a rollercoaster through the Pine tree forests down to Datanla Waterfall. It was an unforgettable experience and we highly recommend you do it when you're in Da Lat!
Sadly, the rains started coming in for the weekend so we waited the rains out at a local Nem Noung restaurant called Nem Nuong Dung Loc where we had our first authentic Vietnamese spring rolls, and it was great! We then headed to the Da Lat Night Market around Nguyen Thi Minh Khai where we had our first Vietnamese pizza, Soy milks and Da Lat strawberries. The market has a lot to offer from winter clothing, to art, to fresh fruits, vegetables and food. A must-see in Da Lat.
The next day, we visited the Lam Vien Square and then headed to the Da Lat Railway Station where we saw beautiful old trains used before, during and after the Vietnamese War and still in-use to this day for short tourist trips. Da Lat Railway station is a great spot to take photos for instagram so be sure to check it out!
After the trains, we stopped at a cafe for lunch called La Chalet and got absolutely wet on the way as sadly the heavy rains set in for the weekend. La Chalet is right across the road from the Crazy House, which is also a tourist attraction in Da Lat that most people go to.
We planned to visit K'Ho Coffee plantation and village but the rains didn't stop. One of the things Da Lat is most known for is its coffee plantations and exportation. Our last morning was spent at Xuan Huong coffee garden before we caught our bus back home to Nha Trang.
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to leave them in the comments below and we'll get back to you. If you have no questions, still leave a comment just to say hello! :)

Dalat Vietnam by MotorBike
Jim Maxey travels through Dalat for the country on the old Mimosa Road Pass. It's a bumpy ride, especially using one hand to steer and the other to hold the camera. After months of living in Vietnam, I finally rented a motorbike and drove about 25 KM into the country. On the way back I was drenched with rain.
???? Driving a Motorcycle In Da Lat | Retire Cheap Vietnam 10
There are lots of questions I get regarding Da Lat and Vietnam in general. So I thought I'd do a Q&A and answer some. Let's talk renting apartments and motorcycles, things to do so you don't get bored, getting a Vietnamese drivers license, and more info! Also I'll give a demonstration driving a motorcycle in Da Lat.
Da Lat is quickly becoming our favorite place in Vietnam. I think Da Lat is a good place for living full time as a retiree. I feel Vietnam has a lot to offer RIPpers (Retirees In Paradise) so let's see more about living in Vietnam and about the people in this continuing series.
Check out our exclusive RetireCheap.Asia membership site - all the REAL life details you need to live in Thailand plus connect with other like-minded people at:
During our trip we will continue to contemplate the question, “what would life be like living in Vietnam as a retiree?” We will continue to see what the upsides and downsides are to living in a communist country like Vietnam. Here is a little info about Da Lat.
Đà Lạt, or Dalat (pop. 209,301 as of 2010, of which about 185,509 are urban inhabitants), is the capital of Lâm Đồng Province in Vietnam. The city is located 1,500 m (4,900 ft) above sea level
The city’s temperate weather stands in contrast to Vietnam's otherwise tropical climate. With its year-round cool weather, Da Lat supplies temperate agriculture products for all over Vietnam.
When Da Lat was part of the French territory of Cochinchina, the French endowed the city with villas and boulevards, and its Swiss charms remain today.
Da Lat's year-round temperate weather, standing in contrast to central & southern Vietnam’s otherwise-tropical climate, has led it to be nicknamed the “City of eternal spring”.

Vietnam Road Trip: Driving to Dalat
After 6 months of incredible heat and no rain, it's time to jump on the bike and head for the hills. We are taking a road trip to Da Lat, Vietnam.
The best way to travel in Vietnam is on 2 wheels. We loaded up our Lifan 150, a not-all-that reliable motorcycle, and spent 3 days making our way to the capital of Lam Dong province, where the air has a pine smell to it, and the chances of rain are much greater.
We stop at Cat Tien National Park, and head out on the Dong Nai River. Day 2 we stop at Madagui Forest City and do a bit of a hike before heading through Bao Loc to get our first sample of coffee in the highlands. We spend the night at Juliet's Villa Resort, an amazingly relaxing, off-the-beaten-path hideaway. The next day we attempt to make it to Dalat - not a long drive, but one filled with dirt, dust, and danger. Will we make it? Will we find rain? Probably, but there's a chance that we drove off a cliff and this is being written by a literal ghostwriter.

Vietnam - Dalat - Motorcycle Ride (4k)
Our First Ride, Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat - Travel Vietnam 2018
So now we had our bikes ready, our backpacks sorted and we were about as prepped as we were going to be, it was time to jump on begin our ride around Vietnam.
Our first destination, Da Lat. We had found a route that took a number of back routes and was said to be 360km in length, so we figured it would be about 7 hours of riding and a few stops along the way for fuel, food, rest, etc...how wrong we were!
A number of the back roads had suffered some major damage from what we are guessing was recent flooding, km's of road now turned to mud and bitumen had become the stuff to avoid, as it was now broken jagged tyre puncturing debris. The areas where the road appeared to still be intact offered no increase in speed or mental relaxation, as they were littered with
For more photos and info on the ride, head on over to our blog dedicated to our travel days,
We'd love it if you liked and shared this video, so others who haven't yet heard of us, also get a chance to share in the experience. Thanks :)

We are Leon and Tash, a New Zealand vlogging couple who set off on an amazing Vietnam adventure as fulltime travellers, backpacking Vietnam. But we weren't going to travel to Vietnam for one of those ordinary backpacking Vietnam trips you hear about everybody doing, where they go for a couple off weeks and check out the beaches or maybe riding through Vietnam at such a crazy pace that they never get off the beaten track. No we want more than that.
Our Vietnam adventures start with learning the way of the locals, taking just enough time to figure out how things work, discover what the Must see places in Vietnam are and more importantly where Vietnam's hidden gems are...
To do this, we moved to Danang Vietnam. The plan was to spend 3 months living in Da Nang, meeting and learning from locals about the culture, the amazing food, their way of living and what places they would recommend to travel in Vietnam.
And because Danang is in the middle of the country, we hoped we might meet other tourists or expats who were having their own Vietnam travel adventure or were at the halfway point of motorcycle riding through Vietnam and hear from them, what places they thought we must visit in Vietnam. Also, as new travel vloggers, having a base there meant we could try things like doing Da Nang Vietnam travel vlog or creating a Danang Vietnam travel guide, before also taking on the stresses of fulltime travel.
Then in month 4, that's when the real Vietnam adventure begins. With our new list of must see places, we will head to Saigon and buy a couple of motorbikes. to start our Vietnam road trip!
Motorcycle riding through Vietnam seems like one of the most hectic, crazy and chaotic things anyone could do, but we can't wait!! And we wont be following a simple South to North / Saigon to Hanoi route, we plan on doing more like a figure 8, so that our travel in Vietnam will cover both the inland and coastal areas of this amazing country.
So can we still say we are backpacking Vietnam? Or should we be telling people our travel in Vietnam is a motorcycle trip through Vietnam? We're not sure, but what we do know is, our Vietnam road trip is going to cover over 6000km's from Saigon right up to the famous waterfalls of Ban Gioc near Cao Bang, round the northern point of the Ha Giang loop and everything else we can access in between.
So we hope you'll join us, the New Zealand vlogging couple, on our Vietnam adventure by clicking subscribe to join the Tribe and experience our travel in Vietnam..

Exploring Dalat | Motorbike Vietnam 12 Days 2,400km
Day 11, Another rest day for us in Vietnam and we have chosen it to be in another highly recommended city, Dalat. Due to a late start, we missed out on some fun morning activities such as Extreme Canyoning and Mr Roti's Secret Tour, however we made the most of it by visiting the flower garden, the crazy house, Datanla Waterfall and finally finished enjoying dinner at a place called Panda BBQ. Tomorrow our journey continues further south.
