At the heart of this tranquil rural estate is Mottisfont, set in glorious grounds alongside the fast-flowing River Test. There are many layers of history for the visitor to explore, including the Gothic remains of the original 13th-century Augustinian priory.

Mottisfont Abbey has wonderful grounds to complement the house itself. There are areas of wooded shade, a walk along the River Test, enough lawned area for lots of picnics (you are allowed to play games on the lawns too - families have been known to kick a ball around, play catch etc.), and magnificent and pungent rose gardens, particularly on early summer evenings. On visiting Mottisfont you will be just as likely to encounter families with small children as you will a coach party or two of tourists.
On a warm summer's day Mottisfont is a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busy city of Southampton and market town of Romsey, both nearby.
In the summer months there are often theatre productions outside, and at different times of the year there are specific trails, mainly but not exclusively aimed at children, for example at Easter, Halloween, Christmas etc.

Fly Fishing at Mottisfont Abbey
The Mottisfont Abbey Estate has three magnificent beats on the River Test and a delightful stretch of the River Dun, immediately above its confluence with the Test.
All four beats are managed by the National Trust with the goal of providing the highest quality chalkstream fishing in a natural setting, providing the bankside and aquatic habitat to support the growing populations of wild fish, and promoting the eco-system in which all native flora and fauna can thrive. Each beat is perfect for two rods and has a private, picturesque and practical fishing hut.

２０１２年６月、英国庭園巡りのツアーで、４番目に訪問した庭。元々修道院の庭だったが、個人の所有を経て、現在ナショナルトラストに移行し、管理している。キッチンガーデンだったwalled garden にバラ育種家グラハム・トーマスが３５０種以上のバラを集め、バラの庭園を作った。。訪問した日は２５度、暑いくらいの気温の中、かの黄色の花色のグラハム・トーマスも含め、開花の遅れていたバラもきれいに咲いてくれていました。多くの人が訪れて、にぎやかでした。
A walk in Mottisfont Abbey
Did my steps walktoloseweight at Mottisfont a national Trust preserved house and garden. The Rose garden was in full bloom and I was a very enjoyable walk both for body and soul.
Britain's Ancient Trees
A brief look at a few of Britain's oldest tree's. Of course there are Yew tree's, but I have included Chestnut, Plane and Oak trees also. I am awed by the dignity and reverence these trees seem to emit... however, if a tree is not growing, not thriving, and is still in its current form only due to the interference of man then should it be allowed to be let alone? Should boughs that are too heavy be allowed to break and fall? Should it's fruit and nuts be allowed to grow into saplings around a dying tree? These are just my opinions, my thoughts and ramblings.
